In the i49 gameplay i noticed once duncan moved away from any light a bar on the bottom of the screen would decrease and once re-entered the light it would go up. Im wondering if this is some kind of need for glitch or if its something completely different.

No, the Glitch are not solar powered. I think that bar might have been for temperature or something.

It is temperature, if you noticed, he was under rain when the bar shows up.

i thought about that but why would it have a sun icon instead of something like a thermometer?

    Warmth, maybe?

yeah i guess...i thought it was some cool unique feature about the glitch or something.

I didnt see it, but I can understand how a sun icon would be misleading rather than a temperature/thermometer icon.

Nah, it's temperature. The sun icon is definitely a little misleading. It goes down if it's too cold, and if it gets to 0 you die. Cold oceans and nighttime temperatures (for example) will lower this. According to the devs it's warmer underground and by torches, so you can stay safe there.

I think that was actually a clock.

If it were me, the "warmth bar" icon would be a snowflake. Unless they add the potential for overheating, then make it change based on context or something.

A thermometer would probably be a good idea. Maybe if the bar itself is a thermometer, with a snowflake at the "cold" end. I don't think overheating is a part of the mechanic.

At the very least the temperature bar should have a sun AND an icicle/snowflake symbol on either side, to make it clearer what the bar is for.

the Glitch are actually powered by Floran Butt Rubbing.

strange, I know, but who am I to judge technology

That's what gets them going. :seriously:

It's definitely to show your exposure level. The idea is you want it to be as full as possible. Being in cold environments causes it to decrease at various rates and warm objects or environments increase it. It's like an oxygen meter showing how much air you have left before you drown, but instead it shows how much cold tolerance you have before you freeze. I admit it's a bit of an awkward method but it works.

Edit: Personally I'd rather have a meter that is centered when in ideal temperatures and then increases with hot temperatures and decreases with cold temperatures. That way you could also be subject to temperatures that are too hot not just too cold. although freezing would possibly be a more likely scenario, getting baked to death should be possible too!

Technicly, if anyone is solar powered I'd say it was the Floran

I think to keep food systems viable for all races the Glitch would be powered by food, have a tech-version of a 'stomach' that works like the fusion thing from Back to the Future part 2. Makes sense to me, this way there would be no need to explain anything further nor make special 'fuel' or other items just for 1 race.

As the glitch were created for a cultural development simulation af a certain race, I believe this really is the case, as this will contribute much to such a goal.
