do you guys who don't like the horse prefer this?

 

They did give Tingle his own game, but they've actually reduced his presence in the main games, often to mere cameo appearances, as mentioned on the TVTropes page. But yeah, I wouldn't be bothered if they kept the horse in some way, I just think that because the horse tends to inspire the wrong notion in a non-trivial number of people before the intended one (actual size of said group irrelevant beyond being non-trivial), it might not be a bad idea to make the horse AI something available, but not default (or at least not mandatory in a vanilla game).

 

Every time, I believe you win these threads.. Only in my head, though, because it doesn't seem to go anywhere. The Glitch are easily the most creative race we've got in Starbound, being medieval hivemind robots. You'd think they would get some respect.
There's really no other way to say it-- the ship AI seems like mockery as long as it's our only option.

 

No? I'm not sure where you would have gotten that idea from. That fits the Glitch even less than the horse.

 

That's a pretty big assumption to make, what are you basing it on? I personally have a glitch character and like the AI.

 

It wouldn't even look like that meme if it weren't for the buck teeth and googly eyes. If it were just a horse maiden, it would be surrealistic, and I dare to say nobody would be all that upset about it. Well, that and if the devs quit putting on horse masks in the updates. That doesn't help the meme connection, because they are literally putting on a horse mask in response to people not liking the AI.

 

I voted No, I really dislike it. Honestly it's fine if you guys want to keep it in somewhere, but for it to be the main Glitch AI...that's just off and I disagree with a lot of the justifications people have for it. Some suggestions I've seen that I like is a Glitch spacepope figure, or just a generic AI. One I think would fit really well that has probably been suggested that I haven't seen yet would be a Glitch Wizard, since I think with the society Glitch have, it'd make sense to see all the technological space stuff as magic.

 

I felt quite angry myself when I first saw the posts in question - I hadn't made the surrealism connection myself at that point. But at this point, I doubt they were deliberately and maliciously trolling anyone. More likely they were just frustrated with a seemingly unworkable and all-around hostile situation (on both sides), and it leaked through when they tried to lighten the mood (thus inadvertently worsening it). An apology might help, to a point, but the developers aren't the only ones that would owe one.


Edit: I feel I should add something: I don't think the developers need to apologize for the horse jokes, I just think it would be a nice olive branch to those who got the wrong idea.

Then you're the exception that proves the rule. Nothing is absolute; I'm not saying "All Glitch players believe this". I'm saying that the two categories (people who like horsetits, and people who like the Glitch) are far from identical. There's bound to be some overlap, but based on the feedback we've seen, it doesn't seem particularly significant.

 

And I, being one of the probably more vocal opponents of the AI in its current form, am not a Glitch player at all, except when I roll one randomly. I prefer the Apex.

No and for the same reasons, that one is worse for lore. Edited out that pic from the quote because I don't want to force people to look at it.

 

Yeah, I like anthropomorphic cats, but that has even less to do with the Glitch than the Horse. At least there is the tenuous connection of Horse = Transport = Spaceship there. Nobody rides cats.

You forgot to give the context of that fairly inflamatory statement.

That makes your opinion somewhat less than valid, and more just looking for a fight. We're trying to have a civil discussion here, not talk about how much we like pissing others off.

Not that I wanna get involved or anything, but as of this moment, there are a whole 2 votes separating "I like it (or really like it)" from "I dislike it (or really dislike it)" on the polls. Quite close indeed.

 

Yup, it's been pretty close to a 50/50 split in this thread and the other poll from a week ago or so. The sample size is bigger this time around, though. Still not large enough to draw any conclusions about the audience at large, but it does go to show that neither side is just "a handful of vocal posters", as has been alleged before.

 

The no's are starting to pull ahead though. I'd recommend spreading the word on this post if you talk about Starbound in other mediums and forums. Like Jeo said on the first page, whether you're for or against, the feedback is what's important here.

 

Its a phantasy game after all - why not an AI like this. Looks funny to me, but seeing how many people dislike it - maybe you can add another AI (or more) and let the hero pick the one he likes best?
