I would file that under "beliefs, values and behavior" so yeah this would make sense. I'm wondering why this isn't in the suggestions area though...

*huffs* as a fan of the dark ages (which is really a misleading name for the age anyway!) I ponder do you mean the medieval period or the Renaissance period rather than the glorious time of the venerable Bede!

..... shouldn't be focused on that i know but every days a school day chaps!

You will sit down and you will learn INTERESTING HISTORICAL FACTS..... *coughs* well, I feel I may have gotten out of hand so I'll just go chuck myself in the stocks and await your rotten vegetables shall I?

  6. By dark ages I'm mostly referring to the usually-talked-about-generalized period of time when there were not really many technological advances due to religion casting a huge shadow over the land, with Catholicism having spread from Rome into Europe. People were god-fearing, which, in a way, supressed them to some degree.

I think this concept could bridge nicely into the Glitch in Starbound.

Ah so the medieval to early renaissance period. The actual dark ages were if anything a time of relearning of lost skills. Always bugs me that.

I'm not really sure if that period had really existed. There were always some advances even if they are being glossed over in history. New weapons were developed, society evolved - for instance the idea of Nation did not appear until 11th-12th century; art evolved; medicine evolved. Religion causing huge shadow is more true, but still not exactly . Enforcing Christianity on a nation took centuries at time.

  9. I did not mean to say that technological advances ceased to be - only that they were repressed due to the god-fearing mentality. Art styles definitely evolved throughout those periods to mirror the overall atmosphere.

At least that's what I was lectured at university. :rainbow:

    Edit:

And since we're doing this ( :p ), Christianity sneaked up into Great Britain and replaced older religions by using symbols/practices belonging to those older cults. For instance, the Celts worshipped Nature, one thing among it - The Sun. The Holy Host, brought forth by Christianity, in a way played on that concept of sun worship, bearing similarities to the sun (both circular and a source of "power"), so that it would be easier for the locals to adopt Christianity. Point is, Christianity played on some aspects of older religions so that it wouldn't seem so alien.

I have more stuff like this on my notebook, but I'm too lazy to dig it out. :p

I think the most repression was directed at things that could shake Church's hold on people, like Galileo's and Copernicus's finding. There was no problem with more practical findings like the integration of gunpowder or the printing press.
