Glitch Inquisition

Discussion in 'Starbound Discussion' started by Keeper, Sep 11, 2013.

  1. Maybe I'm half daydreaming here, but it'd be really interesting to have some sort of Glitch Inquisition. I just find the whole concept of robots/cyborgs behaving like the ruthless European-type inquisition during the dark ages to be quite appealing. There's almost some irony to it, especially in regards to technological development (or lack of it, rather), which also seems to correspond to the current Glitch lore, taking into consideration their medieval beliefs and values.

Now, I understand we already have some religious fanatism in the game with Kluex, but I feel this concept could be applied rather well for the Glitch. Not with Kluex, but another entity. Perhaps they worship the Creator, which could be a generalized term for the race that conceived them. This type of zealotry would also put some background into the pursuit and punishment of freethinkers, in a way modelling our own history. I think that's pretty cool.

Of course we are still lacking a ton of lore. Perhaps there's something like this already in motion, or perhaps it's something different altogether.

Edit: Oh, and in the light of this topic:

    Glitch for the win. ^_^

This could just be applied to the "crazy" glitch? The inquisition is hunting for those glitch whoa re free of the "glitch"?

While it could probably do only negligible amount of damage to the casing of a Glitch, I still believe setting on fire is a valid way of killing a Glitch. Casing maybe fire proof. The temperature will still damage their inner cables and what-not.

I wasn't expecting some kind of Glitch Inquisition...[/reference]

As I recall, the Glitch hunt down those of their society who have free will. They are considered to be insane, and likely treated in much the same manner as in our own past (locked away, electroshock, lobotomies, etc.)

  6. In the lore it states that Glitch who have been created with "defects" that allow them to learn beyond the medieval wall their brethren suffer from are considered "insane" and hunted down. so yes this would be a perfect explanation for Glitch inquisitors.

I think less physically drastic measures would be necessary for Glitches. They are robots, as such they have software rather than brains. Simple memory wipe/replacement of CPU would do wonders for that problems. It's still morally reprehesible, mind you, but in a long run much more elegant measure than causing grievous physical harm.

This is a medieval society we're talking about here. It's not supposed to be very effective.

  10. Its does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it :chucklefish:

Pop-culture has greatly corrupted the image of medieval times. It was not as bad as media portray it.

It's not grounded in as much logic. Apothecaries, prayer, etc. and then when that isn't effective try something more drastic. Memory wipe just seems too advanced/elegant for the Glitch.

Well Glitch are still capable of Star Travel and building sentient machines... I would put them more around 40k medieval society (though of course not as grimdark) than actual medieval times

  14. As much as I've seen people posting about 40k stuff I never stopped to think about what if the Glitch existed in a 40k medieval society like you mentioned. I've been thinking of them as the king Arthur type of era. Now you've opened a whole new can of worms lol.

  20. According to the lore so far, they are indeed stuck with medieval values and beliefs. Technology may still advance, but at least their aesthetical choices are still keep somewhat true to the medieval-type patterns (castles, bookshelves, etc.).

Nonetheless, some form of Inquisition could still come to be --> The regular Glitch (Inquisition and their minions, in this case) pursue those who "see" beyond their own programming. The regular Glitch are already after free-thinkers, so I trust the concept could work quite well.
