Right now, my starter planet has big craters in the background. But even after 3 hours (RL), I have yet not seen anything falling from the sky, no asteroid field present in the system either.

If needed I can post a screenie, but that will when I'm back home after work (still 7 hours to go *sigh*)
and my base is litterly still a hole in the ground in case of "you never know".

I wish that I could have a planet with meteorshowers. Plz post some coordinates (gamma sector or higher)

weather works weird in the game. Once you go to a new planet, it loads a certain type of weather from a "pool" of them in the biome folder. So if you see rain, then that's probably one of the only types of weather you can ever get on that planet. If you see meteors, then that's the only type of weather you can get. If you see Large meteors, different from small, that's the only type of weather than you can have on that planet. A few biomes have a few different weathers, but it's very bland.

If you want more weather, and a chance for meteor showers on every planet, and not just on 1 out of a dozen, check this out: Weather Plus
It's a mod I made that changes the weather. A couple of biomes don't even have meteors, EVER. so you'll be safe there.

I also have a mod that makes it so meteors can't damage blocks at all, so your homes will be safe. But they will still hurt you!

some kind of orbital scanner would help...
just the information that the planet has this problem BEFORE you start building

I'd say meteors need to be nerfed big-time. On my starter planet, the very minute I beamed down for the first time I was pelted with the small meteors until the grand finale where a giant one obliterated my entire screen.

the game maybe just waits long enough for you to build a big enough house until it pisses you off with a sudden bombardment of meteors :D

    well...
    this kinda helps me.
    and kinda doesn't xD
the planet im interested in has both craters in the background AND rain...
Telling from the reddit thread im not 100% save, even though craters in the background aren't a save indicator for meteors and rain lowers the overall chance :I

Note to self, make sure that giant meteors have a warning sign that is NOT small meteors...

At least with small meteors you can fill up the roof of your base with tough materials like I did. It's safe inside when its raining rocks =D

I have never seen giant meteors in guild wars 2, any screenshots would be appreciated maybe they added them in the last patch I didn't really look at it.

I understand that you're getting on in years, but this isn't the guild wars 2 forum. You probably should look elsewhere for those screenshots, or ask a different group of people.

For whatever reason this person decided to spam GW2 into every response. Might be best to ignore for now. :)

Not to correct you but on one of the planets that I got hit with a giant meteor on, it was also acid raining at the time. Kind of sucked because I was in a hastily built shelter at the time when it hit.

I always walk the circumference of the planet that I first visit which gives me time to usually pick up any chests, find any fun places to loot and find out what the weather is going to be like on my new home world.

So, I started a new character and popped down to the planet, and did my walkies around the planet and didn't even take notice that in the rather large amount of time it took me to walk the planets surface I hadn't noticed that there was or wasn't any weather.

I then proceeded to set up my new home base, about 2 hours in and BAM THUNK BOOM, I'm just underground and hear all this banging and it didn't even dawn on me that it was anything more than perhaps some nearby bandits shooting at some of the fauna above, so I pop my head above the surface to see the meteors striking down my brand new 2 hour old home base.

I think this was the first time that I'd not seen what kind of weather was on the planet when walking the circumference of it, every other time I get a taste for the weather in the amount of time it takes to go around the planet. Hmm, maybe that's a sign, don't see any weather while walking the circumference and it just might turn out to be a meteor planet.

in general there is things that need to be changed

first seeing meteor attacks at background

next but first thing that need to be changed is where they enter the map , they should apppear from top possible point of the map and NOT at the top of the screen

i had 1x1 open box in my house that was build in the mid air , and once stupid meteor shower started this freaking meteor poped UP right out of the stupid 1x1 empty hole in the wall , this is worst that could happens , because its like nuking your house from inside

all u can do now is increase HP of blocks and reduce damage of meteors , but they still hurt alot and damage everything around

 Based on some of the stories here, I think I might have a way to tell if a planet has meteors.

First, put up the outline of a house (just use dirt, I'm not sure meteors can see fine detail).
Next, walk around saying "Whew, my beautiful house is finally complete. I sure hope nothing HAPPENS to it!"
Finally, look up. If the evil rocks are around, they won't be able to resist.

So, two new confirmed facts: there can be two weathers on a planet, and you have really really crap luck.

    how about something bigger ?

my planet , starter one is constantly bombed by small meteors , no rain , no acid

I had one of those once appear inside a crystal lab in the previous patch.

No, it didn't hit the building from outside and blast a hole.

The thing materialized inside a large hall and exploded. I was totally flabbergasted and didn't even realize it was a meteorite untill I mined the meteorite rock. I thought it was some crazy trap.

So to those who say that you might be able to escape them by building underground might be wrong. Of course this is some seriously buggy behaviour but anyway.

I want the giant meteors to go even further as opposed to the nerf crowd. I also want to see MORE natural disaster effects. No meteors in your biome? Watch out for tornadoes. Right now we have rain and such but I also want STORMS that can damage buildings and make it difficult to navigate the surface with low visibility from rain and buffeting from winds that push you around. Are there electrical storms ingame? Lightning strikes with a nice zap animation would be awesome, along with the possibility of disabling electronics.

I think what would likely need to happen is the ability to toggle such things when you create a character or have the toggles in the options, including meteors.
Me? I'm a sadist, I want it all on all the time. Bring it.
