Giant Meteors that destroy bases are NOT ok!

If they change this back I would urge them to make it configurable, because personally I really enjoy the random aspect and danger of playing in various harsh environments. I think if your starter world has acid rain or meteor showers (mine did this go round) then you learn to deal with it. You make a deep underground base, etc. I mean, what would you do if you crash landed on a planet that had acid rain? Just raise your hand and say that's not fair? :)

    They are super ok!!

You just need to plan accordingly. maybe make a bunker instead of a house, or build in the asteroid field said rock came from.

To be honest I think that things like these are some of the things that make Starbound fun. However, it should be stated on planet specs if there is a chance for meteor strikes or acid rain or similar. It's very uncool having your base destroyed by meteors. It's fun when it happens when you explore a tentacle world though. :p

some do... but don't if they destroy terrain. At least from what I noticed in the last update. If it remains the same, just have a block that is resilient to them. Sometimes they hit trees and leave debris. I have only experienced this once. Otherwise you might have to wait till you get to Delta in order to mine the asteroids, unless you want to worry about suffocating early on.

    Personally, i enjoy it.

Yes its incredibly frustrating but, seriously, its cool. I like that planets and such are starting to get alive. End of the day, i was getting bored of the whole build base nothing ever happens.

Floods. Fires. Meteor showers. Acid rain, keep it coming!

Though i do agree with everybody, let you build some sort of tool that can tell you if there be chance of meteors.

I would like some means to know before landing on a planet whether it has destructive weather. Sure, maybe one day I will enjoy the idea of building on a meteor planet, but right now I would rather build a house than NORAD.

I love and hate meteors at the same time. Why love? They make the game way more realistic! Why hate? Well, it's pretty obvious. I have seen many meteor strikes but they never destroyed my bases, but I know it's just a matter of time before they get to me.

Heat seeking meteors are not realistic

I would be okay with them if the planet showed signs of scarring and no NPCs were on the planet (because only a moron builds a town on a meteor prone planet.)

Heat seeking meteors should be removed also. It's like someone is targeting you when they only fall around you.

Gentlemen... I have the solution. No longer will our lives be at stake as we strip-mine the universe. To fully realize the potential of my plan, I must first bring you back to your childhood.

That piece of nostalgia right there is not just a really terrible pixelated mess from the Atari past, it is also the way of the future! Upon building and deploying these At. Invader Drones, as I've so named them, they will patrol the skies above their paired command module. The command module will, in turn, require radar targeting. Once a target is confirmed, At. Invader Drones will begin firing at the incoming meteor until it is destroyed.

Yes, perhaps a shower of many smaller meteors may instead make it to the planet surface, but that's a risk I'm willing to take! The Miniknog-- I mean, the totally-not-Miniknog, will begin deploying these systems on friendly inhabited planets immediately.

    TL;DT
Be able to craft a computer that deploys a drone that shoots down an inhibits meteors. What could possibly go wrong?

Yay, I'm a moron! And it sounds like other people are, too =P

(Yes, I'm quoting you out of context, for humorous intent)

I like your actual idea, and think it could be applied to acid rain as well. Really dangerous conditions should leave their mark on planets, and there should be a biological warning of them, AS WELL AS a technological system to predict them in the future.

For example, in Alpha Sector, planets with meteor showers have lots of craters and perhaps some moondust on the surface. Hint Hint, this planet isn't a moon, how did moon dust get here? Planets with acid rain should have greenish color schemes and few or no trees. Or, lots of stone on the surface, with no grass.

I am going to assume we are not talking about those twinkly meteors that come down and look all pretty? I haven't run into any world-killers yet. Is there any warning at all?

The weather effects are pretty neat. Walking around in a snowstorm with the beam of my flashlight showing a thin slice of snow.... it was very cool.

I remember there being talk about a machine that would let you change the weather of the planet before...

Is there a way to tell if a planet has a meteor shower? I mean, if it happens on a planet, its occurrence should be frequent that if you circled the planet, you would encounter the weather at least once.

I'm looking to colonize a planet, and it looks good. I've been hanging around on it for a while seeing if there are meteor showers.

The meteor shower people are talking about does make a pretty light show at night, but no, they are bigger and more destructive than the twinkly light shower.
No warning I have seen. In fact, the first indication I had of meteor showers on my first permadeath character was one coming down the airshaft to his base and blowing him to little floran shreds. It was very good aim.

At one point I read that a planet will have only one major weather type. If that is still the case in this update, if you saw another weather pattern as you went around, you may be safe from meteors.

Disagree. Had my base wiped out and while it sucks, it makes the game better. I won't build on the surface again where it can happen.

I agree. The risk of flaming death is a real concern for space travelers. However, it would be nice if this was locked out for at least the starting world. That way you could get your feet under you. Once you feel ready to leave that planet, you are fair game.

If you look in the background, you can see craters from meteor strikes on planets that have this problem. at least you could on the planet I was on.

I've had one planet (pre-Furious Koala update) where meteor strikes would penetrate at least 50 blocks deep, 75 blocks wide. I've also had the fortunate(?) circumstance of jumping in the air right as a bunch of small meteorites struck, and I dodged everything by a small miracle. If I'm forced to dig that deep in order to create a living space, I demand elevators. ELEVATORS. Until then, I'll just dig deep and mine obsidian if I can. I'd like to see the finger of god penetrate my base... if you get my drift.

Post-update, I saw something really cool, a meteor rain of some sort. Sparkly raindrops, no damage and not painful.
