Giant Meteors that destroy bases are NOT ok!

This isn't mine, but I've had a similar experience and this is definitely a problem.

There's a screenshot there, too. A giant meteor came along and destroyed his base. Not a meteor shower--not the little ones that just come along. But a giant one half the size of the screen.

Meteors definitely shouldn't do that. Maybe they can only displace sand/dirt/clay type ground. They should not be able to destroy someone's house. Period. Too much time and effort go into creating these things and it's just not ok.

unfortunately, it seems CF is intent on adding all kinds of frustrating things like this, example acid rain.

Experienced my first acid rain planet last night

I like the meteor showers and stuff. It really adds a level of danger. There are planets that seem to never get hit. Try to build on those. My new starter planet luckily happens to be one of those.

I'd like it if we were able to know in advance if a planet will have death raining on your base or not.
Like a scanning apparatus on your spaceship.

    Lost it.

Anyway... yeah it's pretty harsh but there will be a meteor prevention method implemented into the game later on I believe =)

Anyway, I haven't encountered anything like that before, but I bet it's extremely frustrating. Here's hoping something is done about it.

Has anyone tested obsidian as a meteor defense? I was going to coat the entire outside of my base with it as a precaution against meteors.

Do meteors just break any kind of block they hit? Can any of the harder rock or metal block types withstand them? I'd build on a meteor planet if I could make a shield above the base. :)

Part of the game and I love it. Yes, it's a shame. A threat level indicator when you scan a planet would be nice, but either way I'd suggest building underground until the heavenly defense grid system becomes available.

Until we get something to help us against meteor showers / giant meteor, i'm just going to get a mod that remove the terrain damage.

I like it like this. The first time I saw it happen, I had beamed down to a planet and the beam down point was right next to a small house. Cool, free house. We can build a farm in it, put chests, etc. The other people I was playing with ran off to gather resources and I got up to get a drink. As I'm returning to the computer, I see the house get obliterated and the meteor miss me by mere pixels. I am laughing my ass off, they hear me over Skype and ask what's so funny. I tell them to come back and they're like, "WTF did you do to the house?" It was hilarious at the time and still amuses me.

no. It causes damage to the block. Each block seems to have a damage/health value before it breaks. So certain materials will last longer than others with a single meteor, but when it rains them there are very few things you can do at the moment. ><

It's a bit frustrating when that happens to you, certainly, but not all planets get meteorites like that. If there's going to be fix or a way to scan planets in advance later, that's certainly a good thing, but until then, what I do to make sure I stay safe is to scout the planet long enough to experience some weather before I start to build.

If you get heavy rain, snow, or something like that, you should be safe.

    personally i really enjoy it.

i'm super picky about where i build tho and making sure it isn't a meteor/poison/acid rain planet is one of my first steps

Guys simple solution build UNDERGROUND... its exposed to simulate real time conditions <.< tho i swish we could harvest some of the meteor.

I personally haven't experienced any meteors, but I did build on an acid planet world, which I found to be pretty intense yet enjoyable. I built three dome structures, connected by outdoor glass tunnels, very close to the spawn point so you can run for the main entrance in the event it's raining when you land. Acid rain I can deal... but if I was intent on living on a world with meteor showers, going deep underground would be my goal.

And I still would think it would be fun, though the initial shock of having a base destroyed in one swoop would be a downer.

Actually I quite enjoyed the random meteor that destroyed the S$$T out of everything lol, found it quite funny, thats why I found titanium plates and put it around the outside of my base.

The only protection against giant meteors is a peaceful afterlife.

Obsidian, Blastrock, Dire Stone (I think), and, ironically, Meteorite should be able to withstand meteor showers, due to having enough toughness. They can survive a hit or two, and then they'll heal back before the next meteor shower.

Giant meteorites that obliterate half of a screen? I'm pretty sure there's no hope for defense, right now.

Hopefully they add some checks and balances to this, like "Starter planets cannot have Acid Rain, or Meteor showers, or Giant Meatballs of Doom."

Do the meteors explode on impact? As in does the first thing they touch "set them off"?

If so then surely all you need is a meteor shield with a big enough airgap to prevent the damage getting to your house. I've only experienced these while out and about and obviously I cant make one happen to test, I think I'll build a dome and cross my fingers.

I think there should be something like a craftable telescope to see all the planets assets, like all the monsters and the risk of being hit by meteor showers...
