Getting Started in Starbound

@foundmonster you have to press "E" to _use_ the crafting station. If you press it on the Campfire, a "cook" window will appear. Same goes for Anvils, Furnaces, Spinners, etc.

Also @DaBa... wow, people are already getting all the way to gold and platinum?

I made a huge mine shaft, mined what seemed like 20-30 screens below and still coudlnt' find any solid Silver/Gold ore stacks =/ Do I have to move to another planet? (with threat level 2-3+)


Also, do NOT use the "Distress Signal" thing. It calls lvl 10 enemies that will continuously kill you (I died 4 times in a row before they despawned). You lose all the materials and gain nothing.

 

I am not sure if you have this or not
but bandages can be crafted by fist collecting plant fibre and then buy using the fibre on a.... damn I can't remember the name of it... the spinning thingy to make fabric. Then you go to a crafting bench and make bandages.

 

Press "E" aiming at workbench\cooking station etc. For different workstations there are different sets of recipes. Openning craft with "C" only shows basic repices to start with.

 

In regards to the 3D printer... I used it with a light strip I found in a randomly generated building, as well as one of those barrel fires you find in camp sites. Now I can print the barrel fire for 250 pix and the light strip for 400 pix. Still not sure what kinds of items are printable and which aren't. Seems pretty arbitrary to me.

 

It looks like uncraftable things can be printed. Stuff like seeds and chests.

 

in regards to to builing a 1x1 block instead of 2x2, hold shift, same goes for mining single blocks, ect ect

 

Actually, you have to go REALLY deep, I found plenty of silver near the end of the level (lava pit) It was REALLY deep, a lot further then you could go in terraria I feel. But i didn't find much gold too. I think other planet types has better resources, like Arid planets and moons.

You need to actually be 'in' the crafting menu for various things like the crafting table. Instead of pressing C to craft, press E on the Crafting table/Fire/Anvil etc.

 

How the hell do you get plant fiber?

I don't know if I'm allowed to ask this in the scope of this thread but maybe it can help if somebody replies to my questions

How to change the cursor size and color ? It's so small and dark.
How to beam back to your ship ?
Changing keybinds ?

If you're in a two story building you can jump on the higher platform but falling down doesn't seem to work (like in terraria)

 

Cursor: Dunno, I think you'd have to mod the game.
Beaming: You have to be on the surface. On the top right there's an icon of a blue oval with an up arrow coming out of it.
Keybinds: Don't believe it's possible as of now.

How do i get on multi player?

 

The first thing I didn't understand was how to 'really' mine the world.

Matter Manipulator is a 2x2 tool that mines essentially anything, although slower than other tools.

The pickaxe speeds up mining of: Dirt, CobbleStone, Minerals, (???), and is 3x3.

The Axe speeds up mining of: Plant Fibers, (???), and NOT wood planks?

Thats all I figured out so far. didn't get to play that much.

Has anyone got any idea where Titanium can be found? If not, then we're at an impasse.

 

You have to hold down and space

 

You can eat food by picking it up and clicking on your character. No need to take up a toolbar space with it.

Higher threat level planets have the better ores.
