So I want to get a server for my clan, preferably an online one because I can't hold a server at my house
I figure I'm gonna have to pay for it, anyone know where I could go to get one?

Research virtual server or virtual game server. There are dozens of services out there. Or if you do not mind a little work. You could set up one in your own machine for free.

Hmm, what do you mean by setting up my own machine?

There is software out there that emulates servers... Some paid, some free. Some Microsoft, some Linux. You create a server, some use the resources available on your PC. Some virtualize resources offloaded from the cloud. It's a bit complex. VMware has server virtualization software. Start there.

He means you can run a terraria deticated server on your own pc( the client would be most likely provided by starbound itself) BUT the only limitation is you would need to port forward your router and theres also the fact that the server is only up when your running the program on your computer

I don't want to sound like an ass, but Google really is your best friend on this. Start with virtual game server. One weekend of research and you'll be an expert. I use my tower for a server and my laptop for steam. Works great.

Al right, I'll probably do that
I would hope to get a server up that won't require me to be there to run

Oh and I know you said you didn't want to hold a server at your house... Servers, fully capable servers. Are about the size and shape of a VCR. If you're old enough to remember those. Some shaped like a sub woofer. And fit conveniently under a desk. But that more than likely over kill for Starbound. Unless you're planning on hosting the entire community, with voice and video chat? Those huge machines your probably thinking of, are CLUSTERS of servers. Individual servers are small.

Your machine will need to stay on, and the software needs to be running. If you mean baby sitting. No. If you're the type that never turns their pc of anyways. You wouldn't even notice. You would probably forget it was even there after a week or so.

I used to run a Terraria server on my laptop (which is about 6 years old), and it never had any issues. I left it on 24/7 and didn't use it for anything else - it seemed to handle things just fine. I have cable, so my bandwidth is pretty good, and my IP remains the same as long as I stay connected (which lasted quite a long time with the laptop constantly running). It did require a little knowledge about routers to properly port-forward, but it wasn't too bad. You can also use Hamachi for simplified port forwarding and a more static IP. The standard version is free.

I suspect Starbound servers won't take a ton more processing power than Terraria's unless you get a lot of people connecting simultaneously. If you're just going to be hosting for a few people, it might be worth your while to figure out how to host from your own computer (especially if you have a second machine you can leave on constantly). Renting a server typically costs about $40/month to start, and can get far more pricey if you need additional space/speed/etc.

Multiplay is a good adress as well http://www.multiplay.co.uk/

But after 2 or 3 years where i got my server hosted to Multiplay, I bought my own server.
The reasons where many but at first I wanted to be free in all decisions I do with my server, like which OS i use, how i save and backup things, etc.

You say you cant hold a server at home. Is the reason the bandwidth you got? Or another problem?

It's not so much that I can't, it's that I'm choosing not to
I can't leave my computer on for days on end and I don't have a computer to hold a server on
