So, a thing that has been bothering me for a while in Starbound now is the fact that different sectors have to be unlocked, all of which grow gradually harder. I honestly had the most fun in the X-Sector, simply because I have all of the (higher) difficulty levels there and I juts don't know what to expect when I look for a random planet on the starmap. I suggest the following: Get rid of sectors. Certain parts of space having more dangerous worlds than other just makes no sense. While it might be convenient in design, it's just not plausible (and you know Sci-Fi is all about plausibility). Instead, make the regular sector bigger, a lot bigger, and have worlds of all difficulties and types spawn there. Use the Tech Upgrades to unlock new craftables, giving the players access to better equipment to tackle harder worlds. I just think that, if I only have Tier 2 Equip and want to tackle a Level 9 world, I should be able to do that and most likely fail miserably in the process. Also, give me more info on a planet's properties in the Starmap. Oh, and add the Planet modifiers from the New Horizons mod. And keep up the good work
Q1? Why isn't the current system plausible? The different sectors can be pictured as representing alternate universes layered on top of each other. With each universe having creatures with tougher bones and skin and thus having to forge weapons which are sharper, and that have greater penetration abilities. Q2? Do you think it would be good to go to highest levelled planet immediately, bumrush to a friendly town and steal a very powerful weapon from one if their containers and make the whole game too easy? because I don't. It's already possible to do this via mods, but to do something like this on a server that wants people to progress normally would ruin everyones fun.
A1: WTF kind of explanation is that? It's way too complicated and just plain strange. My ship has a Warp Drive, not A Universe Changer. I can bend spacetime to form a bubble that moves through spacetime at FTL speed, not a fucking Universe Changer that would send me into a completely different reality altogether. And even if they're Alternate Universes, why would they be harder? Did all the lifeforms on all the planets just happen to miraculously evolve along the same pathways? A simpler explanation is always a better one, unless you're reading/playing/watching a medium that plays around with it's overly complex explanations. A2: Yes, actually I think so, because you shouldn't be able to just go into a village and steal shit without getting apprehended. A chest locking system would be nice, so that you can theoretically break open any chest, but it takes a certain amount of time. Time you don't have, by the way, because you'll get iced as soon as you try to crack a chest. This technology could be upgraded later in the game. Also, you could theoretically keep the sectors for coding purposes, just make all of them include all planet dificulties.
watch your language mate Your answer to Question 2 tells me that A Mod is your best bet at getting what you want, Have a look around theres probably something around that includes all difficulty level planets in every sector, if there's not someone somewhere is definately already in the process of making one. Also you could try it yourself. Have a Nice Day.
Sectors are already really, really big. I don't know if they're infinite, but they're certainly much bigger than is required.
Agreed. Sectors doesn't make sense, especially given that there's no particular reason that X sector has varied difficulty planets whereas the other sectors don't. And getting into the layered universes deal is a difficult concept to run with not because it's that hard to make out by itself, or that it's that implausible, it's that further thought into /why/ there are layered universes becomes a problem. I don't think this game wants to get super complicated into multiverse theories and wormholes and blah. I realize this is a bit picky cuz not everyone cares about it in a fictional universe, but it's still an oversight that detracts from the game's experience for some. You know you haven't created a good universe if you have to do a lot of hand-waving. Like how you have to travel faster than light to get from a planet to its moon. One possibility would be for the universe to be a mixture of all the difficulties, with more low-level planets than high level ones, and the ship upgrades basically "equip" your ship to handle the difficulties of approaching the high-level planets, which would have a harsher environment and thus breed stronger monsters.
Exactly my point: http://community.playstarbound.com/...s-threat-level-nor-resources-available.59535/
As I said in another thread, all sectors should have varying threat levels to keep it interesting not only in the present but the future, but the sectors should affect the content of the planets themselves, as I believe they already do.
X sector is like a melting pot of the sectors they haven't fully implemented yet. The only stuff they've implemented past Delta sector currently are the racial armors. Delta was part of X sector until they added the mineral armor and boss for it. Once they add the 5th sector, the X sector will lose the planets that are level 5. And the same until all 10 sectors are fully implemented.
I have an idea to explain the different difficulties. Maybe you have only one starmap. In this starmaps are different galaxy's. One galaxy is older than another galaxy. An older galaxy has more experienced creatures because the evolution is more advanced in this systems. To avoid a fast travel to a fare galaxy the fuel must be fully loaded or some thing like that. Maybe this is more realistic. In the real world are older and newer galaxy's, too. And it is more realistic to find an advanced species in older galaxy. This seams to make more sense , you get ride of different sectors but you don't have the problem to find advanced technology early in the game. Maybe this is an idea. ... and it should only be possible to crop higher ores with more advanced technology
