I've decided to go forth and made a thread for these AI s. If you have more ideas for AI - post them here, but follow the application! http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/various-ai-for-players-pleasure.79248/
I think there should be just static for the first level, then it upgrades into this image, then something just like this but shaped a little more like your race, then it gets more colors, then it looks exactly like a stereotypical version of your race, then the next upgrade let's you customize it just like a character, but with more options because it is a program and does not have to abide to our "ridiculous laws of physics" and it asks "who would come up with something so restricting?"
request the A.I to be Named Samantha, and voiced by Scarlet Johansson let's start a new kickstarter campaign
This is awesome. I love the staticy feel of the picture. Keep up the good work guys! I give it a week before a mod is out that replaces the character image with a red, glowing HAL-like eye.
This information was posted merely a day ago and I already feel the urge to set something on fire because of all the "AI memes" spreading like a plague...
It would be funny to see "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" references in here... You know, like Eddie, the AI from the Heart of Gold.
Made another one. Her application is featured here: http://community.playstarbound.com/...s-ai-for-players-pleasure.79248/#post-2014284
I think it might be awesome if your ship's A.I. had a voice and it talked to you and updated you on the ship's status and whatnot. For example, when you set off to a new planet, it could be all like "engaging interstellar drives" or something to that effect. Or when you warp up to your ship, it could say "welcome back, captain" or something. Perhaps it could even display little bits of personality. I don't know, maybe it would get annoying but I think it would really add some life to the game and it would be cool to have this little A.I. whose always in your corner taking care of your shit like a bro.
just throwing in an idea for a side-quest. very specific, very.. how do you say... it would have strict requirements. in the later ship tiers, where ships are quite spacious, the ship's AI goes rampant (like Halo or Marathon) and you find yourself and your ship orbiting nothing - no planets, asteroids, Outposts, nothing is around you. you can't beam down or visit planets or anything. most, if not all objects become indestructible (as in, you can't use the matter manipulator/pickaxe/drill to break them down and stick them into your inventory) and only some doors open correctly. if the only way forward is to actually destroy the doors in question, you're left to destroy it. ship lights will randomly go out. it is your job to discover what caused the AI to go rampant and, if need be, destroy it and program a new one OR perhaps wipe most of its memory (containing the permissions used to control the ship, not necessarily its personality) and update it. it gives the idea of choices, which is so prevalent in the game. say you choose to wipe its memory and update it. well, you're left with a nicer AI but one that still retains some or most of its personality, which can create tons of dialogue you can have with the AI. the AI can remember what happened scientifically within its systems, and offer logical reasons to why those problems happened, such as age or stress. conversely, if you choose to destroy the AI and program a new one, you'd be left with a brand-spankin'-new AI. of course, separate dialogue would exist, such as what life was like before the new AI came into being or how you even programmed it, easily setting up a two-, three-, four-, however-many-part quest to fully and finally subdue the fears and rationality of your AI, leading to a final decision: acknowledge the fact that your AI is just like you, a living being, and should deserve to keep its memories and rationality and hopefully, in time, the AI itself would understand that, well, if it's rampant, it could crash the ship and it would die. or, of course, you could once again delete it and reprogram a new AI without any "consciousness" to think for itself, and leave it a cold shell of programming. the idea of AI dialogue brings me to another suggestion in itself. the AI here seems boring and stale, just another tool. would it be really cool of the AI had all this personality I've been speaking of, like J.A.R.V.I.S. from Iron Man or Cortana from Halo? add some spice to the ship, give you a friend instead of just a mode of transportation. or an enemy, depending on the decisions you'd make.
@GerogeV / Devs: As I first saw this, I had to think about EDI in MassEffect and how "she" got herself a body in ME3. So how about making the ship-based AI lattice a "body" (vaguely human so its form is only humanoid but not a specific gender or race) and calling the body S -hip-based A rtificial I ntelligence L attice O rganic R epresentative/epresentation? That would be something in between EDI from ME series and Romy (from the Andromeda tv-series). So the Ship AI has an avatar to "connect" you to a subset of your ship functions or as "companion" to fight with you (for evil baddies you can't fight alone). Or maybe special events like your ship is attacked or spots something in the system or on the planet you are on and SAILOR informs you about the findings from SAIL? Endless possibilites Greets Jens
I hope we can change the name of the AI to personalize it a bit more. Maybe change the avatar of the A.I. too, after all it is our ships personalized version. Like in the Andromeda series, which were bad imo but had nice ideas like the Andromeda gal. ^^
I will likely mod mine if it's not customizable. I really want it to be something insane. So every time it talks i can be like "Oh no.. it's speaking to me again! Make it stop!"
