The thing is that sadly, it would make people unconfortable, and it won't be good for anyone. I'm just gonna quote what I wrote earlier in the thread because is too late here and I want to sleep:
With this kind of actions, the only thing the LGTB community or whichever community does a similar things will achive is portraying themselves as people who make their sexual/gender condition their life, people who want to impregnate everything they touch with it, and let everyone know that they are special, and that's not the behaviour of a reasonable person. If you want your sexuality or any other aspect of your life to be taken as normal, the last thing you should do is act like you are not normal (i. e. special).

UI clutter and percived FOX backlash is why this option I think should be regulated to the character save file, so that people who find out about it can change it in about 30 seconds. It would also give infinite customizability for people who want to be particularly specific about what their character is referred to.
Also, in many games, you'll overhear other NPCs talking about you, often using "he" or "she." Depending on the game, it might be quite frequent to hear stuff like this, if that were to happen, then this conversation would become much more meaningful.

Exactly. It's such a small thing to give the user an option. It doesn't even have to change anything in the game. All this suggestion would do is make the game designers look progressive.

I really think people are misunderstanding my suggestion completely. Which is too bad, because it's REALLY clear.

if people are misunderstanding what you're saying, and it's not just one person, but a lot of them, what you're saying is not clear. hate to break that to you.

Showing this kind of progressiveness like others have said, just opens the devs up for receiving a lot of shit.

I think this thread is a good example of why i choose to stay away from the forums till release.
speak about one issue suddenly the whole thread is an off topic flame war, and yes its off topic.
when you choose to comment on part of the OP and diverge from there, the mods need to intervene.

now to be on-topic the OP has some interesting points but i think people would agree that the 'gender' markers in the character creation process are more of a 'looks like' than a ' definitely is.'
Now if the in-game chatter referred to to PC by any Pronouns then that would be a different story,
and correct me if I'm wrong but i haven't seen any pronoun based scripts or functions in any of the photos and streams that the devs were generous enough to provide for us.

However I do agree with shade on his post a few pages back, Clothing options should be wearable no matter which gender option you pick.
I mean how else will the scots be able to wear their kilts :D

A lot of the recent issues that have been brought up with this have been completely on-topic. also, perhaps in the beginning but more recently, there hasnt been much of, if any, flaming.

WE are reading the same thread here right?

granted not all of its off topic and flamey but a good majority of it is,
I've even re-read (and face palmed) it twice just to make sure i was reading the context right.
while you seem to think its all fine and dandy, quite a few people reading this would come away feeling hurt or angry from what has been said.

but hey its the way you see it, and everyone has their on perspective.

as I said, the earlier posts from the first few pages might be seen as trolling or flaming, but largely this page and the last were not at all.

I must say that this community is pretty well-guided by the anticipation of a good game, and rarely erupts into an all-out flame war. But then again. I do come from starcraft2.com (Where HOOOOLY SHIIIT there's a lot of giant flaming balls of anger, hate, rage and all around vileness being thrown at anything that moves, particularly those who beg for calm, rational discussion). So maybe my flame shields are thicker than most. I'm not sure.

Though if you want a good laugh and know a thing about Starcraft 2, the forums are pretty damn hilarious. Just don't mistake those people as being everyone in the game, the starcraft forums have been infested by the angry, stupid newbs, the vocal minority if you will. And it being a mostly single player game, you'll notice how rare that minority is much more than you will in LoL or DOTA.

That's kinda the point, it was out there, pretty must a reply to my own reply about flaming and was even more off topic than my first one. I made it black so as to not be distracting.
Also, I didn't see that you added anything until I realized that my blob of darkness was slightly longer in the quote than out of it. :p

It isn't a small thing, because it's additional programming that does nothing.

When you meet and talk to people in person, they don't walk around with big badges on their shirts that say "I identify as a _____," because that doesn't matter.

Everyone has a right to be themselves, we don't need formal rules to label people and pigeonhole them into classifications. We do it for convenience sometimes, but it serves absolutely no purpose to have codified genders when making a character in a video game. People don't need to wear badges showing what gender they are because I don't want or need to classify them according to that; your sex doesn't define who you are, it's just a part of your character, so making your choice of gender identity be an important thing in the game is actually kind of counter-progressive, if that makes sense.

All the two sex options in the game do is let you decide between which basically human-shaped sprite you want to use, and maybe some of the clothing styles you can wear. Purely aesthetic. If human sexuality is a spectrum, the game forcing you to choose a specific gender identity is very reductive.

I don't see what the anatomical make-up of a pixel character has to do with anyone's gender identity. It almost seems like this whole issue is fabricated in order for certain individuals to stand up in a public forum and announce to the world that they are offended by this thing they made up. Everyone should scurry around and cater to their irrational whims, or else they are bigoted monsters seeking to oppress the noble, downtrodden and clearly superior minority they represent. Everything greenman is demanding is purely psychological, meaning there is no way to represent it in game. I don't even know what this thread is asking for.

You can't demand equality and then demand special treatment in the same breath. That's not how it works.

Who's making demands? Demands for what?

Not that it's relevant, but I don't identify as transgender.. So I'm not sure why people keep insinuating that I'm complaining about being personally oppressed. I'm not complaining at all, actually. I'm posting in my own suggestion thread, responding to concerns with the suggestion. Why are you here?

    Irrational whims? Superior minority?

    ?????

Please, if you're just going to spout off about things that you do not want to take part in or even understand, stop posting.

I think I understand all too well and that's what's getting you all rustled up.
And if you personally don't identify as any kind of transgender, then you're speaking for others, possibly in a way they wouldn't want to be represented.

"Progressive" doesn't mean anything. Doing something because it's 'progressive' and not because you think it's good or the right thing to do is an insincere and worthless gesture used in an attempt to make yourself look better.

Now you may respond by calling me a big meany and telling me to shut up again. At least I believe what I say.

Actually I'm not representing anyone. Read the original post. Respond to that, otherwise your post is off-topic, unwanted, and irrelevant.

Being progressive often means doing the right thing, selflessly. I made a suggestion because I thought the suggestion might improve the game experience for others. I don't speak for an entire community of people, do you?

Also, it is clear to me that yours are rustled jimmies, when my own jimmies are rustle free.

Gender identity has no bearing on anything in this game, including the physical sex of the characters. There is no meaningful way or reason to implement it as a game mechanic.
It's social justice for the sake of social justice.

I'm gonna have to agree with you, Gnoll.

Greenman - You have said that it doesn't even have to add anything to the actual game, except a little tick box.
    Exactly.
It's pointlessly time consuming for no reason whatsoever. If there isn't one already, mod in a variable for character pronoun referencing.
I'm all for equal rights and all that shit, but.. really. Something like this just has no point. At least factor in a real -use- for it in some way. Suggestions that don't add anything with a purpose would both be a waste of time to the devs and pointless to most everybody that used it.

"Oh, They have a tick box for Transgenders such as myself! It sure does piss me off when someone calls me "he", not "it"!"
...Said, and likely, never will be said, never. By anybody.
"Oh what?! They don't have a tick box for Transgender that nobody else sees but me? This really makes me mad!"
    ........
    You get the point.
    Hopefully.

EDIT: Wooooah, damn, sorry. My internet glitched and posted 3 times to anybody who saw. Geuh.
