I'd like to point out that it's petty and insecure to bitch about the body type buttons being "male" and "female" as this has no effect what-so-ever on gameplay.

Most of the time you can barely even tell the difference between the two - just pick whichever one looks more ambiguous and don't call yourself male or female. It's seriously that damn easy.

I'm curious about this. Why shouldn't the male/female option be removed? I'm asking because you've made it clear that you really oppose the idea. If you still have the option to choose the same character appearance as before, then whats the problem?
This is a common fear in this thread, but it isn't clear to me why anyone would take arms against CF. Where is the controversy? Maybe you can give an example of how the suggested change would give CF bad publicity.

Really, I'm not trolling. You're both voicing concerns that I really don't understand, so try to be clear with your answer.
Chill, honey pie. It's just a suggestion.

Relax, muffinbutt. It's just a logical objection to an element of the conversation resulting from said suggestion. I swear casually.

Frosted, sugar-coated, nipple sprinkles, I don't think you realize how relaxed I am.

  5. Frankly, I think the suggestion is a good one, but I'm not super optimistic about it being implemented. It's not like that is going to kill the game for me.

The reason I am responding so frequently in this thread is that I believe that if I don't say anything in response to something...objectionable (?), then I am as good as enabling it.

I'm kinda right there with you. I made the suggestion because I thought it would be a quick fix to a small problem, and because of how much flack the thread has gotten I feel compelled to defend the suggestion. It's not likely that the game will be changed, and I'm fine with that. The game will still be awesome, even if it could be better.

Honestly, though, I would be pretty disappointed in the team if they left the default player remain the same in the final release.

I'll try to be as civil as I can, but that's a bit of an effort.

I do not think that it is at all sensible to explicitly cater to such a trivial issue. The LGBT movement has no place in this game, and I highly doubt the gender selected at character creation has any effect on gameplay.

THEREFORE, anyone who does not want to be a male or a female should just pick either and pretend to be something else. That is, after all, what a transgender does in real life.

Experience, my parents have had some pretty strange views on some very specific topics, in fact, there have been several games that they've brought up, and it's because of mechanics like these. At least where I lived it's pretty common to have people like this, so i'm assuming that it's also elsewhere. Some people who would be perfectly willing to try the game are either flat out prohibited to or would be emabarassed to, because of others' stupid sweeping generalizations.

  9. Edit: If this isn't important to you, fine. It is disrespectful to call the concerns of others trivial.
Like, that statement is just all kinds of messed up.

That's fitting, since I don't consider whiny special snowflakes to be worthy of respect.

Now, I don't mind transgenders existing, but I do mind them going up to arms because they don't get special treatment and attention in every facet of multimedia.

It's /not/ a concern, it's /not/ an issue and it is about as trivial as trivia gets. Focus on things that matter. There are places where people like you are beaten and abused - /that/ is where you should direct your attentions, because that is an issue and a serious one - not at the semantics of a random indie game.

Because I enjoy having it say male on my profile. Why would you take something out that is in 99% of MMO games. Skyrim had it, WOW has it, GTA Online has it. Why take it out just to make .01% of people happy when they don't even speak up for themselves?

I should take the time to point out that I distinguish between a transgender and a transsexual, and between gender and gender identity.

A transgender is someone whose gender and gender identity are different. I have no objection to that concept.

However, a transgender has not yet taken steps to alter their gender (that would be a transsexual), meaning they are, for example, a male identifying as something else.

    WHICH BY THE WAY

is just like creating a male character and calling it something else

SO DO SO. Good night Chicago.

  13. lol, special treatment = equality apparently.

Me: hey that statement was messed up.
you: don't worry about it trans people get beaten and abused.
    Me: wat

all I did was (and not even aggressively), is say that it was messed up to compare trans people to someone pretending to be something they're not. you really don't see anything wrong with that?

  14. DracoHandsome

    *equivalence, not "equality".

No I don't, because that is the very definition of a transgender. It's even directly implied in calling them a transgender - they can't transcend their gender if they don't have a gender to transcend now can they?

I will reiterate that I really don't mind transgenders. I literally do not give a single shit and neither should anyone else.

What I /told/ you is that you are begging for attention on a trivial issue when there are far better issues to focus your time on - such as transgenders suffering hate crimes and physical abuse - which people more worthy than you are working very hard to fight, and is where you should likewise be focusing your energies.

But you're obviously more content to pick what makes a bigger scene for you personally, rather than what actually gets anything done for the group you claim to be defending.

  15. Yeah those are the same things.

And that is why you have an Etna avatar.

  17. That doesn't make any sense. Whatever I've pm'd you to spare everyone else.

  18. Evangelion

    Evangelion Supernova

Not sure if that's an insult to people who use comical avatars so they seem stupid, or a fitting comment because the actual character is ignorant...
Either way I wouldn't bring that into the convo.

  19. Well I hope it's not the ignorant thing, because those words are essentially the same.

And I'm not going to read it because what you have to say isn't worth reading. I do agree that there is nothing further for anyone to gain from our talking.

The bottom line is: There is no reason - no excuse, even - to add any transgender selection to Starbound's character creation and it's not going to happen. Transgender players can simply call their character some other gender since they are virtual entities that don't actually have a gender.
