What I did was edit the launcher to "Run in console." That way, I saw every time I launched Starbound, the window popped up with some text in it and immediately disappeared after.

If you pull up a shell and run it directly from there instead of Steam, does it spit out the exception, or does it just pop up in a new shell and then vanish?

Pull up a shell? How can I do that?

Should be a Terminal shortcut somewhere. I'm not familiar enough with the OS to give you step-by-step instructions, unfortunately.

This is all it comes up with:

Running Steam on ubuntu 12.04 32-bit
    STEAM_RUNTIME is enabled automatically

I'm completely out of ideas, with that message. Hopefully a linux user will come along. :/

    try this

    1. Go into: Steam/SteamApps/common/Starbound/Win32

    2. Delete Launcher Folder

    3. Rename Starbound.exe to launcher.exe [Inside Win32]

    4. Start from Desktop icon or From Steam Library [I used the Desktop Icon]

I don't understand how renaming the Win32 binary will help on Linux.

Xubuntu is a flavor or "type" of Linux. It uses Linux and I'm running Linux Xubuntu.

Just checking... that's what happens when you cd to starbound/linux32 and run ./launch_starbound.sh ?

  16. Epikness

That's what comes up when I launch Starbound from the command console. I'm not sure what you mean by "./launch_starbound.sh" as that's not in my win32 folder.

If you're on Linux, you shouldn't be touching anything in the win32 directory. All of the Linux binaries are in the linux32 and linux64 directories.

    Ok, hi.

    Are you runnign a 64bit or 32bit kernel ?

pick the linux32/ or linux64/ folder accordingly

    Exexute the launch_starbound_server.sh file

if that fails could you perhaps run it in gdb to get a bit more information ?

    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./ gdb ./starbound_server etc.

I've executed launch_starbound_server.sh in linux32 and a starbound_server.log file appears in the folder.

It looks like the server will run... try launch_starbound.sh
