I have created a topic pertaining to this, stating that none of the fixes have solved the issue for me. I employed every Windows 7 fix listed, and when that didn't do the trick, a dev stepped in and gave me a Windows 8 download link- I guess he assume I must have had Windows 8 instead (I have Windows 7).

After that, a mod stepped in and just locked the topic before I could respond saying that wouldn't assist me. The same moderator, "xxswatelitexx" did the same thing in another topic with the exact same issue- the poster of that topic posting in mine saying his was locked and he didn't get an answer either.

    My topic: http://community.playstarbound.com/...the-fixes-starbound-wont-launch-still.100071/
    Similar topic by FrostyNarwhal: http://community.playstarbound.com/threads/unable-to-install-vc-2015-error-0x80240017.100006/

I wouldn't be shocked if similar topics were being "Answered" in the same manner. All we want is the ability to play the game we played cash for, and we're having our topics locked when searching for answers that don't exist at the moment.

Please address this, and don't lock it again please, as I have played the game since the Kickstarter release, this is the second time the game's been unplayable (the first was a game breaking bug in Koala version).

Regardless of all of this and any of the previous posts. The fact is that this has absolutely nothing to do with the game. You need the C++ 2015 redist. Your issues with the installation are completely independent of the game.
The problem is: There is literally no way for us to help you. Nothing we can say will give you a guaranteed "fix". You are being illogical and fail to see the bigger picture of what is going on. As you stated, there is a lot of mis-information coming out of the new upgrade. The mods are locking threads to try and point them to a centralized knowledge base of "fixes" - despite the fact that this is really not their problem to begin with - Its yours.

Now, if you would calm down and listen to what has been said to you:
    • We cannot give a fix-all solution. It will vary with software on the machine.
    • Your machine must be fully updated to install the redistro.
    • You must have SP1 at the minimum. You should also install any other mandatory updates from windows and ensure your machine is FULLY up to date.
    • Use the sticky thread instead. Others may see your posts with the same issue. Any fixes for you may work on others.
    • Try uninstalling the .Net framework completely and reinstalling.
    • To re-iterate: This is a problem with your operating system - not the game itself.
Swat and I worked in IT for many years. We DO know what we are talking about - else neither of us would have the Tech Support Vigilante badges. He may seem to have been coming off as having an attitude, but trust me - he didnt have one until you started to accuse him of such.

If you have tried absolutely everything, the only thing I can think to tell you is simply to re-install the operating system. As stated before, the issue will vary for each individual - we cannot solve it purely on speculation. For all we know you could have corrupted/missing registry keys that are preventing you from installing it, for instance it could have failed mid-way and the registry is stating that it actually completed. Hell, you could have a pirated copy of windows that has had some needed services/components disabled during the cracking process which is causing the installer to fail. You never know with all these blackbox installers. Perhaps its time for you to upgrade to Windows 10? We simply cannot know everything about your machine, and trying to get that sort of information would take weeks to communicate via a Forum.

Now. Please actually LISTEN to what the swat has told you, and continue within the stickied thread. If possible, include your output log of the installation and you will be helped there.

A sticky topic will make it to where you cannot get responses to your issue in particular as easily.

We have an issue that isn't in the sticky topic, hence the post. I do not have Windows 8, so the "solution" doesn't pertain to me.

The issue is not exclusive to windows 8.
The sticky topic is for everyone who is unable to install Visual Basic 2015.
Everyone with this issue is being helped in that thread, so we don't need to follow 4 - 5 threads and miss some body.
Hence why the threads were locked.

That is the confusion then perhaps, as the post specifically says "For windows 8.1 a specific update is required (KB2999226). If for any reason you can't install this update, take a look at this thread for a possible solution:"

Even for some people, it doesn't provide a solution. That's why the game hasn't left early access, ye know? Because sometimes errors like this occur.

Unless you read the entire post. False accusations of people actually trying to help you is not helping your case.
Windows 8 is only mentioned once.
Now please - use that thread if you want help. As everyone with that issue is directed to that place so no one is missed.
Or in other words the reason why any issue regaurding Visual Basic 2015 is being locked and told to seek help in that thread.

You read the words possible solution and made up your mind I am abusing my powers.

As stated in the topic that you locked, I already have Windows 7 service pack 1 installed- before Starbound even received its 'stable' update.

It's not a "false accusation," it is the alternative solution being stated of "as a specific update that is required for Windows 8.1" That is all.

I have no issue with Starbound or its developers. I adore the game. What I am taking offense at is the blatant mod abuse, acting as if you're a superior being with all the answers- when the answer doesn't exist.

    Yes - it is.
Because as I said we want everyone with Visual C++ 2015 issues to reply to that thread to get help.
Otherwise your threads will end up getting lost.

If you read through all those posts, all those people are being helped.

"All" of them? That is not the case, there are a multitude of people who still have issues despite being responded to.

Some of the responses being outrageous, such as "turn off your antivirus." Excuse me, I shouldn't have to leave myself vulnerable to viruses to play Starbound, and it doesn't even solve things.

Dude there is honestly no helping you.
The reason Antivirus was said to be turned off is because Microsoft it self said an antivirus can prevent it from Visual Basic 2015 from being installed.
I am not continuing this discussion any further. If you want help for visual basic 2015 - You can reply to that thread in which we dedicated to help users who have issues.

You also seem to have misunderstood the language.
All of the people are being helped - means everyone who responds to that thread is being responded to.
It does not mean everyone/s issues has been resolved.

Do as you wish - I have tried to help you by showing you where to get help with the issue.
But you seem to be dedicated to be unnecessarily difficult and refuse to reply to that thread for some reason.
I wish you the best for your future en-devours.

You're saying there is "no helping me" when you have only repeated yourself on things that I have already told you I have tested, and have already not helped me. I have looked through the entirety of the 'help topic' and none of it aided me as well as multiple other people, hence starting this new topic.

Not only that, now I am being insulted as not knowing English when it was a vague statement in the 'help topic' to begin with. Simply fantastic.

All I am asking for are NEW solutions. Not your own copy/pastes of prior solutions that don't aid me or other people. You clearly do not have the answers, thus I am asking other people who might.

I have already told you that I bear no ill will toward the devs or their game, it is strictly your "I know everything" attitude that is striking me the wrong way when you don't have the answers- hence seeking help elsewhere.

Yes. And some how you still are not replying to that thread.
All you need to do is go to that thread and Write.

    Hi.
    I have Windows 7 with Sp1 installed.
    I have tried
    1.
    2.
    3.
    4.
    5.

None of these worked. Is there anything else I can do?

I should also note it is important you list out everything you tried in detail.
