So the purpose of this mod is simple. Make the game harder. Here is why i made the mod and i hope you all like it to :p

I played through 2 years of the game in version 1.06 original files no modding. During my first run i had alot of fun and learned about the game and what it offered versus harvest moon. I fell in love Right away <3.

The main gripe i had was how easy gold was and just in general how easy the game was. by end of year 1 i was a millionaire and year two 11 million gold and this was pretty much just growing tons of corn and had a couple hundered pickle jars. Each corn was worth like 300 gold now.... way to easy.

Since there was no way to increase the game difficulty i looked on internet for mods and learned that not many people were working on a re balance. So i took matters into my own hands, I downloaded the following.

    XNB Extract by Drogean.

also grabbed notepad++ open source notepad editor that really helps when modding xnb files and yaml.

I then spent hours going through my desired changes and testing in game, I played the first 2 years and here is play through 1 standard game and play though 2 my hardcore mod.

    YEAR 1 / YEAR 2
    1,234,129G / 9,743,934G

    MODDED HARDCORE MODE

    YEAR 1 / YEAR 2
    94,129G / 343,934G

as you can see i made much less gold, and also simple things like scrounging for ore and food along with logs and stone was a very strategic move each day really counts and you have to plan things out better and put a lot of effort into things.

My mod only consists of .xnb files and you just save your old ones and copy the new ones.

I am going to update this post soon with all the exact changes.

The synopsis all crops are 1/3 price return and crafting takes 60% more mats and all mobs have double hp and do 30% more dmg. oh also the end game weapons deal 10% less dmg.

As promised here are the changes in detail. Also please keep in mind i want people's input on this mod, Also if you want your own version with different prices i included directions above for that very reason. I don't expect everyone to want hardcore mode but i do expect everyone to change the game to there liking because i spent countless hours wishing to make the game harder then found out how so i just want to share with as many people as i can.

The reason for it was planning really well lol. i skipped straight to iridium sprinklers. i had 20 iridium sprinklers end of first year, oh also alot of it came from the crystalarium. i had about 30 of them going making 30 diamonds every couple days. so at least 6x a month in game i was racking in 22k on top of like 800 corn (with quality soil) each 4 days the 800 corn was like 70k or so. now on year 2 i am lucky to have 2 iridium sprinklers and 40 corns lol

            So, to be sure.
You just edited the pricing of the crops and the enemys difficulty?
Will the crops still be worth more, then the seeds?
Would be interesting to use for my next playthrough, so I will keep an eye on this. ^^

I want to first make it clear this mod is not for the feint of heart :sneaky:

I edited the crop prices and prices of anything foraged within the game. This includes fish, berries, plants, ocean artifacts, etc....
The crop prices depend on the length of the crop for instance a 4 day crop was reduced 5-15g return potential and the seeds were increased 5-15g. it really depends on the crop, i wanted the game to be on a hard setting :p. Take corn for example the price of seeds is now 160g instead of 150g and the standard corn is worth 20g instead of 50 ea. you get a total of 200g out of a corn crop instead of 350g provided you get all 10 harvests. The same goes for all other crops like parsnip the seeds cost 20g same as before but instead of 35g profit because its a 4 day crop you only make 25g which is 5g unless you roll gold star which is around 29g. Also things people abused to gain absurd amounts of gold have been reduced drastically, Blueberries now produce much less gold than before. Also in order to make a preserve jar or keg it takes a decent amount of raw materials like 500 wood 30 charcoal and 250 stone for the preserve jar instead of the previous 50 wood 40 stone and 8 charcoal. The reason for this is simple, people who made hundereds of jars to process blueberries (good luck getting the thousands of logs now :p).

Anyways keep the questions coming, I want to keep the mod viable for the entire community and anyone looking to really challenge there inner stardew valley juju

Sounds interesting. And as long as you still gain profit from the crops, it's ok for me. But that would mean, planting corn is only worth it, when you plant it on the first summer day and water it everyday. Really interesting idea.
So you really have to plan what to buy when and you are not allowed to make any mistake or you suffer a loss.
But that would make the time which you need to get specific things longer, so you have more to do.
On my second playthrough I'm in the middle of summer and have already build very much... Would be cool if it would take longer on my third playthrough!

I Will make sure and keep this updated for you :p it definitely is worth it for second or third play through if your looking for a challenge. As for suffering losses the biggest thing for me was first 2 months, It was crazy trying to afford the backpack upgrades and trying to manage the crops without taking away to much spending money. Dont even get me started on affording the horse stable, That sure was an adventure :p)

can i ask what are the corresponding meaning on each object? i mean let say..

                              Keg: "388 30 330 1 334 1 335 1 725 1/Home/12/true/Farming 8" #!String

the 388 is wood right? then 30 is quantity?

for TS: i suggest increasing the item you need to complete the bundles plus some items need to be ranked i mean gold star etc. also on the carpenters double the price and required items to build.

My husband has been playing with this mod for the last couple days.. he's found an issue unfortunately. The Luau event is apparently looking for a gold value amount when assigning a "good soup" rating, he put in an item that should have gotten him one step above neutral but he got a bad result instead. He's worried that the showcase at the fair will likewise be impossible to win.

I may now have a reason to do a second run in this game. I lost motivation in summer of year 2. Money was just way to easy to earn. Now if only there was a mod like this for Rune Factory Tides of Destiny. I finally got around to playing the game and money became pointless half way into the summer year 1. There are too many items with easy to abuse prices.

I ran across this as well. I'm going to take a look and see if I can change it. :)

Putting aside the whole issue of whether this game even should try to be hard, or whether how much money you make is the be-all-end-all measurement of success for now...

The thing is, you aren't really making the game harder at this point, you're just making it take longer. You merely turn a system where you could make 15 g/day per tile of land into a system where you make 5 g/day per tile of land. You still have no way to really lose money. You do not have to eat. You do not have to pay taxes or any kind of upkeep. Essentially the only things you spend money upon are investments that can ultimately make you more money (or at least things that make you travel faster or have more inventory space that can ultimately help you make more money). There is still no real possible way to lose money in this game. In fact, the closest thing to a loss state is dying in the caves or fainting at 2 AM, which can hit you with a random item droppage and some cash penalty.

I don't see what you're doing as ultimately changing anything about how you play the game, since, aside from blueberries or ancient fruit wine, it seems at first blush to mitigate the effectiveness of everything equally. All the same strategies would therefore apply and be basically as well-rewarded as before, in proportion to their opportunity costs. Since you only spend money to buy things that make you more money, you eventually snowball into producing geometrically more money while having less and less things to buy, regardless.

                                        Some alternate suggestions:

There is a Taxes Mod out there. Simply making the player pay a tax (maybe with some leeway on the first season or year, then ramping up to full,) could help. Additionally, players might need to pay "water bills" (a cost upon sprinklers) or additional taxes upon barns or upgraded houses as they add property value. These would add real cost-benefit decisions, while also making simply going to sleep while waiting for cash crops to mature less attractive.

In real life, farmers often face a great deal of uncertainty. The price of crops may change drastically between years or from the time of planting to the time of harvesting. Crops can drop in value drastically enough that they are literally not worth the cost of harvesting. (In real life, seeds are cheaper than dirt, and fertilizer is close behind. The real costs are the gasoline it takes to move your tractor to fertilize, plow, and harvest those crops, or to hire the migrant workers to harvest the crops if they are one of the many crops you can't harvest by machine. Farmers will get up in the morning, check the prices of their crops, and make the calculation of whether they'd spend more money on gas than they'd make selling the crop, or whether they should leave crops to wither on the vine.)

To a large degree, this reflects some costs that are not reflected in Stardew Valley: You do not need to buy gasoline to work your farm, and you harvest everything yourself. (This is why Stardew Valley and Harvest Moon before it have such artificially inflated seed prices to begin with...)

To this end, a possible way to add this uncertainty is to have a function randomizing the sale price of different crops, which can go below the price of the seeds themselves. There could be a first-year leniency period (just say that there's a drought elsewhere, so crop prices are artificially high that year), but afterwards, you face the real possibility that multiple crops will simply not be profitable, and you may or may not foresee this. (There should be some sort of price chart added around Pierre's store or something so that players can see food prices. Adding a farmer's business channel to announce global events that make some goods have higher or lower prices with a week's advance notice would also be a good touch. I.E. locusts striking Cardinal Plains results in corn prices skyrocketing, or a bountiful wheat harvest in Haron Hills means wheat and beer drop.) This sort of mechanic will encourage diversification of crops to try to hedge one's bets upon crops. It would likewise make sense to have similar, if less variable, fluctuations on other money-makers, like cheese or fish, although fish are notably something that takes the least "risk" in terms of locking oneself into an irreversible investment and should therefore be generally made less lucrative so that fishing isn't an obvious alternative to farming. Once a farmer has a cow, it tends to keep producing milk come rain or shine, though, so making milk/cheese/eggs/etc. a relatively stable fall-back might make sense. Making the selling of the animal something more lucrative can also be a decent way to add real choice and chance to the game, however. If you can sell a cow for a lot of money in a limited window, but have no idea how much money you'd make off the cheese in the time it takes to raise another cow to replace it, you have some risk.

Prices should, however, not be variable on a daily basis. If a crop can double in value from one day to the next, a low commodity price is meaningless. Some prices should be season-long lows, meaning that they are obvious losers the whole season that farmers would naturally avoid, while others might have some "surprise crashes" that result in prices dropping on pumpkins on 11 Fall, right before they would likely get their first harvest, screwing players over by fate. Inversely, a surprise crest in price could also occur making a player have a stroke of good fortune. Again, this encourages diversification, and possibly even a small side gamble on "loser" crops that might get a lucky spike in price just before it is time to harvest.

Variable price alone, however, just encourages stockpiling crops, possibly for years, just to wait for a "jackpot" sell date, which needs to be discouraged. Jack-o-lanterns can already rot, even while in inventory to the best of my knowledge, and it may be worth reusing some code like that to make all crops have a freshness date that means they will expire after a certain period of time specifically to prevent stockpiling. You might also want to have a "wither on the vine" decay to prevent players from just leaving crops on the field to keep them "fresh" until picked.

A more advanced (coding-wise) way of dealing with ease of planting is to make harvest less guaranteed or less easy. (I actually wrote a truly massive thread on this subject for Dwarf Fortress.) For here, however, you might want to focus more upon pests. The only pests right now are crows, which are countered by scarecrows.

You could add additional pests that target specific types of crops, with the larger the concentration of crops those pests enjoy being on your farm, the bigger the threat they have of invading your farm. These pests might be large and obvious like locusts or rabbits, or a disease like a potato blight that can bloom when a large enough population of potential victims exists to spread disease like wildfire. In effect, consider it like a percentage chance of being hit with a disaster that wipes out crops of a specific type whose percentage chance increases the more of that crop you have, punishing over-reliance upon a single cash crop. Some pests are specialists, but others may be generalists, and be attracted to, and attack, multiple types of crops, being a more general hazard.

Pests can have counters. Insectivorous bats can be encouraged to live on your farm with bat boxes (yes, this is a real thing) that will eat flying insects. Ants can be encouraged to dwell on your farm and eat ground insects. (The Chinese learned at the dawn of recorded history to encourage specific ant species to nest on their orange trees, and even build them bamboo bridges from tree to tree because they eat the insects that otherwise would eat the fruits.) Spiders of different breeds eat either type of insect. Certain types of plants are also poor profit crops, but good for defending other types of crops. For example, planting fennel or coriander can attract the type of wasps that parasitize aphids or other plant-eating insects with their eggs and larva, cutting down the population of these crops. Likewise, a way to keep deer or rabbits away from your crops (other than having strategically placed dogs) is to ring your food crops with hot peppers or strongly aromatic herbs. Grinding peppers into a dry powder and spreading it over crops also acts as a large herbivore repellent. This requires re-application every time it rains, however.

Counters would not be an absolute defense, however, but more like a subtraction from that percentage chance caused by growing more of vulnerable crops. Counters would need to grow more elaborate to counter pests as the crops they protect grow in strength. Also, counters should likely have a range of effect, like scarecrows do, now. Ringing your food crops with herbs, flowers, or hot peppers or garlic only works when you ring your food crops with them. This can add a managerial planning layer to the game, if you're actually capable of programming for it.

A final thing to consider would be adding in some reason for players to spend money since they don't spend it on gasoline for tractors - hunger. Make stamina drain constantly with time, and make food have a stamina regen period rather than a straight-up instant stamina restoration. (That prevents eating 20 foods in a row to nullify damage in the mines.) This means that players have to constantly consume their inventory. The spa should probably be given some completely different purpose or simply made useless to prevent abuse. Again, since players will generally have a geometrically-growing cash income as the months go on, you might want to make this harsh in the long term, but softball it in the short term by having the player receive many food gifts or easier forage early on so that the game isn't impossible in the first few seasons. (Yes, that seems like running counter to the notion of a "hardcore mode", but without a softballing start to give players a chance to establish themselves first, then the whole system would have to be made easier to be playable at all. Then, when the player is past the initial establishment phase, they will find that it becomes easier and easier to feed themselves, but the need to eat never becomes more urgent.)
