Random monster generation was planned for ages, you can see it mentioned even on old Reviews.
Starbound will likely cost 15$ or less. Indie games rarely cost much more than that.

When you have a relatively low price you tend to get much more buyers, so it evens out somewhat.
My personal guess is that it releases as 10$ on limited time sale before shooting up to 15$, but I don't actually know. :)

why would the price go up for randomly generated monsters?
we're going to have the same thing with guns too, i don't see a reason to raise the price for something the engine does on it's own and is supposed to do :lod:

  5. You seem to be very excited about the game ;]
    *ba dum tss*

If the random monster generating isn't that painful to create, I doubt it.

random generating monster is the thing i never heard of and i played lots of sandbox games... imagine how its gonna change online and sandbox games history!
even spore for create ur own creature was around 100 euros

Spore is 3D and made by a big company.
It allows you to edit the creatures in a very detailed way and clearly a huge amount of coders and artists worked on it.
    Not to mention animators...
When you have a huge company work on something you've gotta make a ton of money to profit.
(Too bad Spore was kinda disappointing)

Chucklefish has 6(?) employees, of which 2 are coders.

Starbound's system is actually pretty simple.

Team Chucklefish just make lots of heads, upper bodies and lower bodies and give them different colors.
The game then picks one head, one upper body and one lower body at random. Done.
You could have probably had this kind of generation in a NES game.

Funny that nobody has really done it well before. :)

  9. Stargazer

    Stargazer Existential Complex

I'm not really concerned about the price; I'd be willing to pay $60 for it.

  10. Just for a more accurate count (going from the team page on the main site alone, so not including contract musicians/etc.): Chucklefish has at least 11 employees, and at least 3 coders.

YoungUnicorn, LastDay and Epicface like this.
  11. Pentarctagon

This is a game, not stock.

    Oh yeah my bad.
I didn't count one of the coders, whoops!
I left out the contractors on purpose, although maybe I should have included them too.

  13. Breather

    Breather Oxygen Tank

Well, this is first of all an Indie game. 2nd of all, randomness in a game isn't new.
