sounds like u left your planet waaaaaaaaay too early. i stayed got a leather set then ventured off eventually getting a gold set and the birds are way easy with a gold set +the weapons are bugged so even the start weapon i have (83dps) helps

There was no moving back or jumping to hit them, I had between 2 and 8 of them on me at any given time, and they NEVER got close enough to hit with a sword.

My start weapons are all having 10DPS. I cant GET armour, if I cant leave the spawn area because things are ganging up on me and setting me on fire, and killing me in under 2 hits.

And if you were talking about leaving my SPAWN planet, you're wrong. I cant leave my spawn planet cause the birds even follow me underground.. so I can't even get coal.

I disagree and think difficulty level is very important and there is no reason not to discuss it. That being said, I think the game is still way too easy and that is my input. And for the people saying it's too hard- what game are you playing?? rly...? I've had none of these experiences

Even before this patch we had kids reaching end-game elements, with decked out armor and weapons and big bases and all found content and the game's been out for less than a week. The game was not too hard, and is still not too hard.

The damage system is just right in the current build.
Some monster's special abilities (not ramming into you) inflicts much higher damage, and if you get unlucky and gets zapped by a bird's lightning bolt, it'll hit you several times stacking damage a ton!

In the previous build, it was hard because you are trying to avoid being 'touched', and quite frankly it's kind of like Mabinogi's difficulty system years ago, but even then you have means of prepping yourself for it (counter attack skills and windmill, etc.)
In this game, you don't have much weapon 'skills' hence taking the hit means you literally take the hit.

What we particularly need, is a damage system that doesn't make older weapons redundant.
Why use sector A/B/G weapons when Sector Delta weapons one shots everything?

Maybe it's a good idea to start imposing better dps and 'damage resistance' rather than damage amplifiers.

Meaning enemies has a certain level of damage 'resistance' percentage based on the difficulty, but they inflict the same range of static damage.

This makes them naturally tougher, but not boss-like one shot mobs.

Some vendors from the start of the game on a lv1 planet offers weapons that are easily outdone by iron weapons when you find some iron ores...
HECK! Even the 20 dmg rapid attack speed hunting knife is better than 80% of the weapons offered in a vendor.

You need to make vendors 'useful' and want you to buy their goods... So maybe bought weapons scales with your exploration level once a leveling system comes into play?

We also need some sort of durability and repair factor come into play for weaponry and armor, because you can just trade other players for high end gears with little to no restraint.

Maybe add 'ore repair' functionality into armors and weapons too, but give them slightly less durability than a pickaxe (clothings cannot decay).

This should only apply to metallic weapons and armors, mind you, as repairing fabric armors is a bit unusual at this point given how weak they are.

um where i am now snipers hit my shield and overlap about 15 damage to me (lvl 9 mobs) i am yet to be "1 hit" this update yet on release it was 1 hit central when i first spawned but after some play and some gear the game was easy

my whole point of raging was the fact people are STILL saying its too hard even after the damn update

by start weapons i mean the ones u craft with iron
iron is still super easy to get all u needa do is grab some wood quickly and grab some stone make the stone pick then dig streight down once u have enough iron to make a new weapon or 2 (also make the bow and upgrade it t iron) u will be smashing everything in site its easy as to get iron and wood

You are speaking to me like I have never played this game or similar games before. I understand HOW to make weapons and how to get things... people aren't listening to me... I can't GET things because I have a flock of flying jerks setting me on fire and chasing me at all times.

I killed the UFO boss the other day before the patch and it was on par with what I expected, not particularly hard but took a very long time (with full leather gear and an iron bow, just kept placing dirt to block penguins, even so they were easy enough to kill). However today I killed it after the patch and it is so so so so much easier it perhaps needs to made harder again, I'm not kidding you it takes about 4 hits with an iron bow and it's dead, it only had chance to spawn to penguins...and btw you can't make silver armour now until you've killed it, so best to get full iron and a bow, get in a man made hole and shoot it a few times..

Also, I don't know about you guys but since the patch the damage I take seems a bit unbalanced with the damage I give out, I.E with one of the iron weapons I can 1 hit the creatures that come out at night, yet if they hit me they take off nearly half my life...seems a bit odd, but hey ho i'll get by =)

Oh and Kirsten, I agree on the flying things, this time round my starting planet was so overwhelmed with flying death birds that I literally gathered some coal and flew to another planet to gear up a bit before coming back to my original =/

People need to learn the difference between when "get good" is valid, and when it isn't valid.

"Cobble mining is too slow." - LOL U JUST NED TO GET GUD.
Um, me being good has no effect on my mining speed.

"Armor doesn't prevent you from getting one-shot" - LOL U JUST NED TO GET GOOD BRO.
Um, armor not doing its job renders having armor pointless to begin with.
No matter how good I am at dodging, armor itself is still useless.

"I hate not being able to use wood for fuel" - LOL GET GUD AT MINING
Mining doesn't have a skillgap, you can't be 'good' or 'bad' at it, it's just tedious work.

Point being, you can't just throw "get good" out there to defend every blatantly broken mechanic in the game.
Not everything has a skillgap (i.e. mining speed), not everything can be solved by just "getting good".

The update did change the difficulty.
I find the game is more difficult in some aspects (such as the average mob attacks more often and aggros more often). This is good.
I find it's also easier in some aspects (I killed the UFO in a few sword swings). This isn't so good.

However, it was never meant as a balancing update, just a clarification update. They only threw in a few last minute balancing tweaks, and plan on giving us more to fix what they couldn't fix immediately.

Duping? That's sad because there's no point in mining at all if you can trade for it.

When in the last build, the time it takes them to dupe and get materials, I did a suicide run several times on a sector X planet for weaponry dropped by mobs, yes I used the 'attack through wall trick' due to no other means to kill them with lower leveled weapons.
Once you get energy dash and a good set of energy boosting armor, you'd be AMAZE how far you can fly with that thing! I flew about 1500 blocks, or roughly 30 seconds in the air.

But yes, enemies like the UFO needs 'armor' levels of their own, especially if they are armored foes like the temple ones, etc.

Having the same armor levels as your copper/iron equivalent on the 1st planet should be nice. This means 13-18 'armor' levels should be by default for special cases, like guards and UFO, but not penguins.

In any case, I crafted a Carver XL on my Avian, it does 60 RAW damage in one hit!

My only problem is that birds and flying monsters now aggro from rediculous distances now and seem to chase you to the ends of the planet.

I'd like to see birds get a SLIGHT nerf, but overall I am glad they are actually a threat. Before they were essentially just scenery.

    LDSkinny Yeah, You!

Honestly I think the prepatch difficulty was just right. The problem was the bugged progression not spawning platinum where it should and armor being too weak, not the system itself.

Right now the difficulty is a joke. It was decent with the starting weapon hitting for five. It took a few hits to kill enemies, pretty reasonable stuff. Then I got my first weapon upgrade and everything dies in one hit. When I got to the next sector, I was able to get a weapon off the first NPC I fought, which once again lead to me one shotting everything I saw.

Sure, maybe. But also keep in mind we have kids yelling side-by-side right now that monsters are too hard, and that weapons are too powerful. That fuel is too hard to collect, that ore is too plentiful, etc. There's no clear agreement on whether the game's too hard, and while I tend to side with numbers over opinions (a weapon can be clearly unbalanced, but a player's own skill is less easy to use as a gauge when they cry that it's too hard), there's no consensus to be reached here.

Maybe it was just the planet I started on this time, but 80% of the mobs were aggressive and came in packs. You say get armor? But to make the armor you need wood to make a crafting table and so on, but to get wood you have to go out. If I moved a screen away from the warp point, I would get rushed by several mobs at once, and the birds were hitting very hard and did not stop chasing. Last time I tried to just run to get materials, ended up with 4 birds and 5 monsters chasing me. It is difficult to get anywhere when you keep dying before you can get said armor. I did not have these same problems with my last world before the update/wipe.
