Game feels too easy (Indignant Koala)

I can't be the only one who thinks so. Yet, most of the threads I see on these forums are asking for lower difficulty -- reduced pixel loss on death, lower cost for pixel storage, remove or reduce fuel costs for space travel, make mining faster, etc. I am worried about the future of this game if the developers are making design decisions based on this kind of feedback.

A great game needs to be challenging for the player. Please don't design "Farmville in space". I know that Starbound is getting more and more popular by the day -- and with good reason. I also know, from experience, that the bigger a game community becomes, the more it trends toward the "nerf everything, let me beat the game right now" mentality. Sadly that seems to be what a lot of people want, but I really don't want Starbound to go down that route.

Please, Chucklefish, I know you've gone on record saying you want the game to be challenging. Please, stick to that philosophy. Or, if you must give in to the legions of whining casuals (no offense casuals), then please give us difficulty settings so those of us who want a challenge can still enjoy your game.

    Thanks, and keep being awesome.

Meh, the devs have already said they want a hard game, hard but balanced. And from what I can tell getting that fine balance just right, is going to happen in stage 2 of beta.

I agree slightly with this, though I may have gotten lucky. I'd like to maintain the current difficulty to see how it fares, I started a new play-through yesterday with a friend and we got the distress beacon after one very lucky mining trip.

Ores feel in a good spot for alpha/beta, insanely abundant for delta/X, didn't spend too long in gamma but I think that was fine too.

To be fair, the issue isn't just "everything is too easy". I did just get one-shot by a desert planet mini-boss, while wearing the best armor craftable at my tier. Was kind of funny, after stomping on all the enemies before that.

I actually think alpha/beta ores are a bit too abundant. I'm currently sitting on stupid amounts of ore -- as in, I will need a second chest to store it soon -- and nothing to do with it, and I've only explored one planet per sector (in beta sector currently).

Mining is too fast already (not even counting dester planets), at least compared to the needed ressources.
If you die, the stuff should not be gone, you should drop ore pixels, but they should form one of these small picel containers so that people are motivated to gatehr them again.

So i really hope to see this game gettign harder, because otherwise the motivation to keep playing is soon gone.

  8. Agreed, I think after more patterns are implemented combat will become a bit more engaging. I do hope that we get more extravagant attack patterns/skills with later tiered planets.

No, the discussion ended with "rebalancing in the next patch" and the conclusion of the topic clearly is that the new patchdid not balanced stuff.

re is plenty, depth is still no "rewarding" terrain to go. So somehow not much changed since these versions.

  10. I know, and I jest. I offered a bit of what I thought would help add to the difficulty, some things that are currently being worked.
