After a long day of Space Adventures, you are now filthy rich/broke. What do you do with all that existent/nonexistent money? GAMBLING Gambling would provide a high stakes, high reward way to get money, or just for fun if you have tons of it. There are 2 types of gambling "locations": Casinos and the Underground. Casinos When landing on a planet with a civilization on it (or fly by it if that's how the devs wish planets to generate), there is a BLANK/BLANK chance for a Casino to spawn. Here you can play Galaxy-Legal betting games. Casino Games Cards Cards cover a wide spectra of available games in these casinos, including Poker, Blackjack, and others.On how the cards will look, I was thinking either:Universal deck with the same Space design (Aces = Galaxys, Spades = Black Holes)Card design based on planet (Some planets might have space, some might have classic Aces and Spades design) Slots Slots would make the bulk of the interior of the Casino.They play simple: get _ in a row, get money.When I put blank, I mean that some machines might have more rows, but offer more winnings/more lenient winnings (get 2 in a row on beginning and you still win small amount.) Roulette Roulette would be another of the games.I was thinking that roulette might differ depending on the planet you're on.If you were on a very small and not so dense planet, the ball will go for a while, and might have more of a chance to bounce, unlock huge, dense planets, where the ball would take a very short time to nestle in a spot, and almost never hop a space or two. Just an idea. Now, you're bored of the Casino games, and you want higher stakes. Well, for you, we have: THE UNDERGROUND The Underground isn't really underground. It's a system of planets that partake in the more... frowned upon games in the universe. Such games include: [Homeworld] Roulette This game is basically Russian Roulette. A few players sit around, point a revolver (bullets or lasers, either way)at themselves and shoot. For those who would rather keep their lives, you could join the others who use blanks in these games. However, winning the actual game will net you all the money AND the loot of your fellow gamblers. Underground Penguin Fights Just like the Cock Fights of today, the Underground has taken a liking to Penguin Fights. Make bets on fights, and maybe even enter your own penguin in the fights. Ultimate Risk Racing (URR) One of the crowd's favorite games is Ultimate Risk Racing. In this, you take a 1-man miniature of your own spaceship and race in the Universe's danger zones, including the surface of black holes, stars, and for those who want real big money and danger, Galactic Cores. Of course you can just bet on other racers if you don't like the dark matter in your hair. Now, let's say your losing too much and you want way more than you have. Let's tip the odds in our favor... CHEATING You can cheat in most games, Casino and Underground alike, as long as you can find the right way to do so.In cards, you can buy special suits (with the prefix [Gambling] on it) that lets you hide cards inside and outside of games to use in the middle of a hand.In slots, you could use your mechanical knowhow (if you have any) to alter the machines and your winnings.In roulette, you can quickly substitute the ball for a lighter/heavier variety, if your fast enough...In H. Roulette, if you are chosen as the one to give up the gun, you can take an altered gun to the match, increasing your chances of money and living.Obviously in UPF you can just put some armor or weaponry on your Penguin. You can't get "Caught" for anything in this.In URR, you can also edit your vehicle with hidden boost takes and weapons. Wait, what did it say in the Penguin section? GETTING CAUGHT CHEATING Obviously, cheating people out of their money makes them a bit mad. If caught in casinos, you'll usually just get sent to the police, or maybe thrown in the Casinos Jail (if it has one)In the Underground, however, you got a fight on your hands.As said before, Penguin Fights has no cheating. Enemies will also have weapons and armor. Now, you're rich, you know all the games full well, and you got enough cheats up your sleeves to trap Houdini.Now what? GAMBLEMASTERS (name pending) Now, obviously, there are other people with the gift of gambling.I was thinking either:A: They have a BLANK/BLANK chance to show up, and that increases as you win more, and decreases as you lose.B: They are made to come whenever you have won BLANK credits.They can appear in both Casino and Underground games. They can also have cheats, like the card suit and the hidden boost tanks. Beating them will get you BIG BUCKS (and maybe even special items sometimes?) ITEM BETTING So, what do you/some poor sap do when you lose all your money? Leave? No way. After a player/opponent's money gets to zero, you can use an item to bet in the game. As the players get better and better, the items will also improve in quality. Gamblemasters have some of the best loot, ripe for the picking.
Having Penguins fight to the death, and placing money on which one wins seems very barbaric. And entertaining! As long as they aren't healers, gah that duel took hours...
I don't want to start imagining the unlawful cassino games... (there always some, right?). Perhaps some sort of death race, with a lot of prizes in the end, IF any of the contestants survive. Considering the cassino don't want to lose, because the money to enter in the race is really big... ...or some sort of long-range bets about the state of the universe, as which planets will be standing, which races will be at war... and the players, not knowing but already pawns to the players who WANT that bets to get money to them.
I like the Death Race idea. Maybe it could be some sort of Asteroid Belt Derby or something. The other one doesn't exactly sound that interesting, but it could be a middle ground game that isn't played in the casinos or in the Underground places.
Gambling seems like a good idea! It even gives you the opportunity for replayablility! For example, when you have too much pixels, you gamble. If you lose, then that gives you an incentive to make that money back. If you win, hey, you can bet AGAIN!
Added Item Betting. Juggling around ideas about stuff like maximum earnings in casinos and people who want revenge after you take all their money.
I love this idea. If a dev has the time, (s)he could also invent a whole new card game for players to learn and play! Ideally, there would be a different kind of game for every culture, but I don't imagine this is very possible.
I like the idea of space-casinos, as long as most of the time they are just a good way to have a little fun, and lose a lot of money. Casinos are businesses, and wouldn't be around very long if people won more than they lost .
