Those are some pretty interesting questions indeed, and it'll be fun uncovering the so-called galactic mysteries. I plan on playing as a Glitch, so uncovering my roots will be a fun experience, I think. ^^

Also, what is Big Ape's secret? Is Big Ape even alive? Is Big Ape even an ape?

And why would the Hylotl be uptight? I only read about that today, and it's got me wondering.

You should definitely give it - and the updated FAQ page - a read. You'll find that info on the release date has changed, and now only the beta is confirmed for 2013...

 

I spend most of my time reading on the forums so I was clueless to these changes (though I know about them from reading the forums I just didn't know the main page was change to reflect) I'll differently give it a once over

It was actually changed only like a day ago by Molly, hasn't been changed for long so you didn't really miss it.

 

Maybe if your an apex your name is Solid Ape and you have to go take out Big Ape and later save the world from Liquid Ape

Suffice it to say, simple exploration is going to be a big part of what makes Starbound a great game. I'm looking forward to stumbling upon some ancient ruins and walking away with an interesting item or obscure piece of lore. That begs the question, though: is there in Starbound the equivalent of the Progenitors / Forerunners / Terrans+Talocan+Yan Jung+et. al.? I love the hyper-advanced-but-now-dead-or-gone-race concept.

 

Big ape's secret is that he's a chimp and therefore can't participate in the monkey business.

Glitch were recalled Hasbro toys they just sent in space once they figured they could ear millions just by making pink ponies.

Hylotl are so uptight because they can't wash off that fish stench.

Starbound release date is 43.

This is going to be totally obvious for most, but for those who didn't catch the reference: Big Ape is a nod at Big Brother from George Orwell's dystopian novel 1984.
