Fuel rods serve no purpose in the game other than to cause rage.

I didn't even know there was a such thing as fuel rods....

I was just like HEY YELLOW ORE THINGY! I SHALL THROW YOU INTO MY ENGINE!

But you can craft things with diamonds while you can't do jack with rods so far.

You can put rods into the Ship's fuel chamber, and receive fuel from doing so...

I think I'm not communicating well here. What I'm trying to say is this:

There are instances in the game, where a "refined" material does less for its purpose than the "normal" material.

In the OP's case, 1 Uranium Ore provides 4 fuel. A Uranium Rod (requires 2 ore) provides 4 fuel. The "multiplier" is incorrectly set to 1, which means that the Uranium Rod believes it should have the value of 1 Uranium Ore, when instead it should be the value of 2 Uranium Ore.

In the case I provided, 1 Diamond Ore provides 100 pixels in the Refinery. A Diamond (requires 4 ore) provides 200 pixels. The "multiplier" is incorrectly set to 2, which means that the Diamond believes it should have the value of 2 Diamond Ore, when instead it should have the value of 4 Diamond Ore.

It doesn't matter that diamonds and uranium are used for different purposes, the "multiplier" that the game uses to convert Ore -> Refined Thing is not correct.

But what I'm talking about is the usefulness of the ores. Sure, they give out less when refined, but thats only in terms of pixels/fuel. I'm talking about other uses such as crafting. I hope you understand my point.

I understand your point, but I don't understand why it is relevant to the original post.

I hope they become a food item. Fuel-rod-in-a-fish sounds freaking fantastic! Or play fetch with your dog using a plutonium rod. By the time he retrieves it and gives it back to you, he'd grown another mouth so you can play fetch with TWO rods! Do Novakids use rods as food? Hmmm.

While I sympathize with OP and others on the lack of use and actual waste of fuel amount by converting into rods, they're just too easy to get. I gave up after I farmed two stacks of each. Even with diamonds, I have so many that the only way I'd be drained and looking for more is if I were able to craft blocks out of them.

i would like blocks of all available ore. I can't build a violium house and frankly piss on that

If you're looking for blocks that have the same colours as the different ores, use the paint gun, if you're looking for blocks with different textures AND colours according to each ore, that's a different story.

This would be a bigger problem if the game focused more on smelting ores like coal. Here's the logic why:

When you first encounter coal, the first thing you're taught is how to smelt with it, which establishes it as a fuel source. Later on in Sector X, you find other ores similar to coal, to which are labeled as a fuel source. The first instinct isn't to smelt the fuel, since it was established with coal that it's meant to fuel, not to be smelted. People as a result put said fuel into the ship first instead of smelting it, as evidenced by the responses here. By the time you figure out fuel rods and their worth, you've already seen the raw value of the fuel before smelting to begin with, so it's not a huge loss. Add that to the quantity of fuel sources out there in Sector X, and it's a moot point.

A bigger problem is the analogy with diamond, because you're taught to smelt this kind of material early on. Many things in starbound require pixels to be created, and diamond tools require whole diamonds as well as pixels to create. Most people would instinctively smelt all the diamond ore they have instead of smelting just enough to what they need. The ore left over could means the difference of not needing to grind more.

hey @mollygos, pls ask some of the code guys to change this, pls pls.
It's a simple value change to make the rods more efficient than their ore counterpart, and it'll make us all happier :)

(also pls use this post/thread as a reference next time some hypocrite whine about how the devs prioritize small things over important stuff ) ;)

In seriousness I'm making rods out of uranium just in case they are used for something. I'm pretty topped off on fuel as it is.

Trust me, taking those when being upset just makes it worse... and I hope everyone knows what these blue pills are

    It's probably intentional

I'm guessing that they're going to use fuel rods in the future for some blueprints - it just isn't implemented yet

CF has a hard time fixing JSON errors for some reason. i guess they arnt "important" enough.

truth. CF has a bad track record with fixing JSON errors. as this thread is about JSON errors, it is relevant.

    "why is it broken?"

"because they have a bad record of fixing that kind of thing".

It's only a matter of time before someone writes up a mod for a gun that uses them as ammo, so hang on to them! Then you can have your fun with exploding green rockets.
