Fuel/Coal Crisis, and how to fix it

I agree with you but please for the love of whatever deity you might believe in, get some sort of spell check app for whatever browser you use.

While I too felt like tearing my eye balls out looking at "witch" all the time, I do agree with your posts. The flat truth is removing wood as a fuel source was a bad idea all around. Honestly this entire patch really just feels like changes I have to "deal" with, not changes that I am excited about. I know they are testing things and working out the bugs, but I don't like to see moves in the wrong direction during beta. Being slaughtered by the aces of the sky, and playing "where's waldo?" with the ores is just not fun for me at all.

Also for a game that many have been anticipating eagerly for a long time it has a horrible community here on the forums. I have only been reading the forums for a couple of days now and the amount of times I have seen trolls, and "bye you wont be missed" are staggering.

 

It is mind boggling how some people fail utterly to find the darkest looking ore on planets or moons. It is literally everywhere. I had around 800 coal when i left my home planet. Now through with the available content of the patch and still sitting pretty on couple thousand coal, few hundreds of uranium, solarium and plutonium.

 

Did you seriously never think to pick up torches and campfires? Did you just now, after running out of fuel, remember that they used coal? Really?

 

I could easily make a 5-10 minute video displaying the absence of coal on my game, if you'd like.

 

I think the removal of wood as a fuel source was a good change. Wood is too abundant, it makes it so people just hop from planet to planet and the cost to go to these planets is so negligable that it might as well not be there.

You want the space travel to cost something for your character. Having wood as the cost is tantamount to not having a cost at all.



Besides, the OP is at a point in the game where the steel ingots require coal. As soon as you get passed that teir, and move on to higher ores that do not require coal, you will have a massive surplus of coal. And as far as running out of coal on your planet.... Think about it. You start the game without fuel standed on the planet. Isn't the smart choice to first and foremost secure a source of fuel so this never happens again? As in make sure your ship has 1000 fuel or at the very minimum 200 at all times, so you're never stuck again? Not that you could ever be stuck again, because digging a couple dozen tiles down and left/right is full of coal.

Well, there is your problem. 5-10minutes is nothing in game like this.

 

This can get incredibly tedious when mining though and not everybody has the same level of patience as you or I.

 

Since the patch many people have had issues where ores are not spawning correctly and as such coal is now a rare ore. On my starter planet after the patch it took me 1 1/2hr to farm enough coal for 20 torches. At that rate it will take me a week to get off the first planet, and I have to hope I pick a good one to land on next because I wont be getting off of it soon. So Im not sure if you just cant read or choose to ignore the fact that this patch was not perfect and has hindered a bunch of people so your pompous attitude is not helping anything.

Your Avatar suits your spelling and grammar perfectly.. seriously, everyone re read this and picture his avatar saying it. Soooo much more fun that way.

 

I quite like the fact that fuel needs actual work to get now, instead of just chopping down a forest. It gives you an actual reason to set up camp, and you stay on planets longer, which I think is nice.
Though, I do suppose we could use another alternate fuel source as a fallback, maybe another mineral that is as abundant as coal, but only gives 1 fuel instead of 2.
Another one would maybe be to add an oil liquid in the game, that can stored in containers and gives 4 fuel per single entity.


Also, grammar is not that important, not everyone is as good with grammar as you , so stop whining. Being able to read it is good enough, and it's not like OP did it on purpose

 

Funny how none of my 5 characters had such problems yet. Maybe i increase the sample size then. I highly doubt this is anything else than impatience and lazyness.

 

Right there with you Max. For some people if it does not affect them then they don't care what it does to others.

How ignorant is the idea that a problem must not exist because you don't experience it yourself. I've experienced people like this so many times in forums now i'm not even surprised by the lack of logic used in the answers people like you give. You're claiming people to be lazy because of a problem you're fortunate not to be experiencing.
