Frustrating things that I think need to be reworked.

So I've been playing Starbound now for about 40+ hours and I've enjoyed some things, but I've found my self more frustrated than pleased.

Just Starting - If you are giving us a sword, and flash light... you might as well give us a damn stone Pickaxe, and axe. Trying to chop down a tree and it taking 20seconds with the matter manipulator is so dumb.

Fall Damage - Most of my early on deaths have been purely to fall damage. They need to make the distance much further before taking fall damage, or scale the percent amount you take from the fall down.

Monster Damage - I don't know if it's the monster damage is too high, or the armor for the current level isn't applying the right damage reduction scaling. Both need to be looked at and changed.

Gear Check - Example: lv15 Armor on a lv15 planet: (most) monsters damage scales approprietly. Lv15armor on a Lv16+ planet: (most) monsters kill you in 1-2 hits.

Planets - Planets just seem too massive sometimes. There are two things I wanna do on a planet, farm resources or farm the monsters. There is no need to make each planet take 10mins just to circle just to see if it has a dungeon on it or not. (I'm guessing having a map of the layout is asking for too much)

Progression - As of right now the progression seems to be, do Lv15 planet to get lv15 gear, do lv20 planet with lv 15 gear and die to everything in 1 hit, to try and hope to find a chest to get a small fraction of an ore or bar in order to further progress to the content you are currently dieing over and over just to make surviving on the planet a little easier. If you are going to have gear increments of ever 5 levels, then you need to make that gear viable in planets above your armor level in order to get the material NEEDED to progress to the next level/planet.

I think the starting point is Ok, its very quick to farm an Axe...

I don't mind this, doesn't take me more then 2-3 min, then i have already made a Pickaxe and an Axe. Nothing wrong here IMO.
Again, nothing wrong here if you ask me... I build a tower myself, and even jumping down from the top of that doesn't kill me... it's about 30 blocks high.
Here i however, believe you are right... I think armor is bugged, or just scales in a weird way... Since my character currently only have 3 armor, and my Chest alone gives 3... With all his gear, he should be on 7... don't know if the scaling is just made so it's Average of the items being worn. But something needs to be fixed here, i agree.
This is one of the things i like, spending alot of time looking for the ressources i need, so when i can finally craft a sweet armor, i know i've worked for it...

Agreed, this needs to be looked into.
This is HIGHLY disagree to... The planets are fine... I don't wanna be spoiled on every planet i go to... part of the fun, is exploring the planet.. seeing if it have anything of interrest.

I honestly thing that the monster damage is okay, and the damage reduction scaling is also okay, I don't see any urge to it to be changed. I doesn't take much time to farm a Leather armor, which is really resistant.

This works in reverse, too. Your weapon's strength vs. a monster's armor is just as back-and-forth. It's because the 100HP/Armor/Armor Penetration system the game uses for its stat calculation, and I'm definitely not a fan of it.

The only thing I agree with is the fact that gear is ridiculously underpowered at just a few levels above it. You might as well be wearing nothing at all.

Just Starting - I think the starting equip is quite ok.
Fall Damage - The fall damage is a bit unpredictable. it might be a little be filed.
Monster Damage - Monsters and their damage values could in some place can be made even more difficult level between 1 and 10. With the leather armor and a weapon from the value of the armor 8 or higher, I suggest all down in alpha sector.

to your first point i kinda agree having these tools would be nice but i say if it stays like that its ok i mean its not like you have to mine 30 trees till you can get your first tool
An upgrade tp the manipulator IS however necessary at least on a later point because at its current state i usually stop using it after having an axe and pickaxe entirely.

I DEFINITELY agree on the fall damage maybe make platforms so that passing through them slows you down a little bit (kinda like terraria) so you can actually progress already dug out tunnels faster

Monsters are a thing for itself right now combat kinda well sucks. i usually die more through the knock back then the monsters itself though

progression is also something strange i also have to agree there with you having to kill a boss to get weapons that are able to kill him in the first place is kinda annoying

gear Check have to agree there to getting better gear is not that fun as it used to be in terraria (again sorry for that comparison but to be honest in the end starbound has to stand up against Terraria )

Planets well that one is tricky sure some planets are big but on the other hand they are freaking PLANETS
A map would be nice though. or maybe give an option to beam wherever you want on a planet after
upgrading your Teleporter or building some kind of teleporting arrays. one on south on on north pole so you latest have to explore Half of the planet before.
Or just say you can port everywhere you have been already on a planet (on the surface of course)

I have a couple nuances I'd like fixed myself. Here goes:

    1) Inventory Sort button. Terraria doesn't have one, why should Starbound make the same mistake? It'd sure be nice to be able to click a button and have objects in your inventory stacked if they can be, and arranged from a certain order that you like (Ores, Items, Weapons, Furniture, etc etc...) Inventory management gets to be a challenge after awhile. I might as well make my ship a giant Treasure chest, because I use it for massive amounts of storage space.

    2) Energy Consumption - Flashlights can supposedly last forever in this universe. I'd understand during the day if it was solar-powered or something, but I can earnestly tell you my flashlight can go an indefinite amount of time. Perhaps make it drain from that little green bar like your techs do? I dunno, just a little added survivalism, I guess. Ration your energy, etc etc.

3)Ability to sell items - Maybe this will be implemented in the future. It bugs me for the moment though, I'm patient however, not something particularly game-breaking

4)Having to pay to forge items you have the materials for - Do I have to pay my forge or something? What is going to do, refuse to work for me? I find this slightly ridiculous, if you ask me.

5)Having to pay an initial scan fee on the 3D printer before you even get the schematics - Your fee should be that you had to sacrifice the item in the first place. Printing the object however, should remain the same. Prices are a little ridiculous though, especially for a small chest.

    6) Damage versus Armor Penetration - Still have yet to really figure it out. All I know so far is that more Armor Pen = More damage, for the most part. I don't see the point in having the damage value yet, but we'll see.

    7) Armor Scaling - This was already mentioned on here, but yeah. I'd like to know that the armor I used on a planet that was simply two or three levels the planet i'm on now would atleast have "Some" effect on a higher difficulty planet. But meh, Scavanging OP

    8) Movement Items - I'd like to be able to get around the map just a bit quicker. Now i'm not saying hand me wings (I'm looking at you, Terraria), but give me an item that can increase my movement speed just a little, even if it's not a lot: It saves time.

    9) Stairs - It gets annoying to be forced to go up them every time I walk by them. I wish they'd map it to where you have to hold "Up" or something to go up a flight of stairs. Not really gamebreaking, but just a nuisance.

Can't think of more, but I'll be sure to find them.

Apex Racial Armor... Increases movement speed and jump height :)

Also, later in the game, you can get a Hover-Bike! :D

The armor protection to weapon damage ratio seems sort of screwy. It's weird to go to planet where you get one hit killed by everything, but also one hit kill everything. I suspect this will be fixed in the next update though.

The Burst/Energy Dash tech works wonders. You can find them in Apex Testing Chambers.

By the time you find gravity bubble and directed blink, you'll be wondering what is the point of using anything else to get around...
