From the building demo, this game looks like a finished project.

Do you think the game will have a 2012 release?

Yknow, I keep getting a funny feeling about that. When you contract yourself to your fans for a year like that, pressure tends to take the fun and motivation out of updates. Are you folks sure theyll keep up the content for a year? At leats theyre giving us a timeframe though, unlike what Terraria did.

Terraria updated for about 8 months (just a reference point). With how dedicated the devs are and such, I'm pretty positive they will update for at least a year, and the smaller team updating for longer.
Even if they don't update for that long- if they fully get modding out, I'm sure it wont matter too much if you can do as much as they say you will be able to with modding, heh. I'm not even a big fan of modding over updates, mostly because of mods being incompatible with each other and being a little annoying to put into your game, and I like updates being from the devs. But if they do it right, like making it semi-easy to add new items and such, have an API, and the thing they mentioned where you automatically download a server's mods when you join, It will be so convenient and amazing.

That's what I'm thinking too, but that's not too bad imo. Anytime after that and I might rage .

Please, please, please use Steam Workshop or something similar. Dungeons of Dredmor uses Steam Workshop and almost all the mods work seamlessly together. (obviously game-changing mods wouldn't, but additional guns, mobs, plants, planets, dungeons, etc. should work together)

    Anticipation burns.

  9. I'm actually hoping they release around this time, so they don't rush anything and have plenty of time to do other stuff.

Yeah, they said that they were going for a 2012 release, and they're probably going into total two-ended-candle mode here. I think it's not just possible, by likely.

Guys, you're not making the wait any more bearable. (Must not explode until Starbound, must not explode until Starbound...)

Combat is not yet polished as it's been stated. Hitboxes for weapons aren't even working right (which is why they appeared to hit but didn't so much).

Don't worry though, that's all temporary. We've really been going at it adding in a lot of functionality. We just haven't gone over combat yet much besides the extreme basics. That's why the hitboxes were weird, why we ONLY used basic weapons, why there were no interesting weapons or abilities, etc.

While I do wish the game was a finished product it just isn't yet. We've done quite a lot, but we have some more to go. It's shaping up.

Building is only half the fun, theres alot of things the devs need to hammer out. The most obvious is combat but also the mob AI, probably the wiring system, we haven't even seen anything about a crafting system, ect, ect, ect. There is alot of things we are still in the dark on, or know to be incomplete as it is. There is still alot to do but yes, from a building aspect the game looks great already!

Good thing you're not a fan of Wyvern. :wut:

Anyways, I would prefer a complete game upon release. I wouldn't want to run through most of the story for a patch to come out saying "Hey guyz! We just changed EVERYTHING about the first half of the game, lolz!"

This game looks nothing like a finished project. I don't mind an early 2013 release, I think that would be best.

    Way to go, Senor Negative.

The game looks fantastic, but still lacks some functionality and polish in a few areas. "Nothing like a finished project" is a bit harsh and doesn't communicate how much the devs have already done.

    You missed a ~, there.

And, no, I'm very positive about the game, and I can see them doing even more than this really easily. Plus, Mr, Tiy himself said that combat is very much a WIP, and they can't release a building-only game. I didn't talk about how the game looks. My 27 videos communicate what the devs have done xD They have been doing heaps, their engine is amazing. Now it's just fleshing that engine out. And they can do loads with it, which is very cool.

It's great that you've made 27 videos and believe the game production is going well. I was just pointing out how that comment isn't very supportive of the devs.

And to be more on topic, I don't believe that game should be rushed in any way. I'd rather the devs take more time to perfect it and receive positive reviews on release than get it early and it be buggy/missing features.

EDIT: Quotes to show exactly when you did say that.

I wasn't talking about how the game looks visually on my first remark, I was stating that it doesn't appear to show a very complete status of development completion. Visually it looks nice, but the combat animations - and possibly the flipping animations - require just a bit more work (work, period, on the flipping animations).

Regardless, yeah, I've been noticing quite a large number of folks almost wanting to force the game out, which sounds very inappropriate. I fully respect the team's rhythym.

    Unless they decide to rush.
