Playing online is a lot of fun, I have been playing almost 24/7 and am still having fun.
But as most of you know there is a part of our fine community that finds pleasure in hurting others.
    Grievers, hackers, thieves etc.

Now it's not too hard to escape from these by simply traveling to a planet they're not at.
But you don't always know beforehand if someone has evil intentions so I found my ship empty before.
And one more time I logged back in and now there's spikes on my beam platform which kills me in one hit right when I spawn, an endless cycle.

Anyway, to protect us from frustration I would like to suggest:

    1. Personal ship locker - Make the ship locker only openable by the owner of the ship.
Only the ship locker to put important stuff in. Chests and other containers can still be shared. This is what I do a lot when new people come to my server. "Grab some coal from the chest in my ship so you can fly to us." For example.

    2. My ship, not yours! Only make the owner of the ship able to add or remove objects/walls to or from the ship. This will prevent a shocktrap, spikes or other fantastic stuff to appear on your beam platform (Unless you like to self harm?).
And obviously protects your prized jewel to stay in good shape rather than end up an empty hull with holes.

Cant disagree, that would be actually lovely to have that opportunity to feel some ownership over my vessel...

Yes. That needs to happen asap. I play only with people I trust so when my ship was "vandalized" I ended up with a cool avian crest and background in my ship - but it could have easily been something less pleasant.
