I have a few thoughts about the Machining Table.

I think that the Machining Table is crafted from the wrong place. Rather than being produced at the Inventor's Table like every other workstation, it's a basic crafting recipe. This makes it a bit of an odd duck. I was wondering how to get Frackin' for quite a while before I found it. Since I didn't see it in the Inventor's Table, I just assumed I still needed to unlock it.

Also, the sprite on the Machining Table has really weird dimensions. It has a whole block above the sprite that's just transparency, so the station has a waaaay larger footprint than it appears to have. It should be shrunk down by a square in the vertical direction.

I feel like it might be able to shrink a square horizontally too; there's a lot of space on either side, and if it is pushed half a block left, it might have a whole block it it's right that can be shaved off.

For some reason the gas centrifuge stopped proccessing materials, it also looked like it was proccessing ingredients and playing its sound effect while it had nothing in it, had to break and replace it. Is this normal?

The starting quest NPC straight up *tells* you to craft it at the C menu. This is a non-issue to anyone with eyes in their face, so I see no reason to change that :)

The dimensions are fine, because its just how it has to work. Each update stage needs to be the same size, as far as I can see. Not much I can do about that. Once upgraded to a Matter Assembler it uses all of that space. This prevents the player needing to rebuild with each stage to compensate.

That's fair. I suppose the ideal thing would be to make each sprite has the same visual footprint as well, to avoid the dissonance between how big it is and have big it appears. But I understand that spriting takes a lot of time and work, and this would be low priority.

And if the player misses that one line of dialogue or forgets? Pointing a player in the right direction (once) doesn't make it more intuitive on it's own. Consider this: imagine if every vanilla workshop was made in the inventor's workshop...except the Foraging Table. It would be weird and out of place. Players wouldn't necessarily realize where it fits into progression, and it could potentially be missed entirely because players have no reason to expect it to be there.

Alternately, consider this: every core workshop is produced at the same table (save the table itself.) There should be a darn good reason for the machining table to be crafted elsewhere, and I just don't see that reason. Besides, it would clear a bit of clutter from the basic crafting menu, which should really be reserved for things that you need to craft on the fly.

It's fine the way it is. It simply ensures they use adequate space.

Then they need to learn to play the damned game, because its permanently added to their questlog. They have no excuse whatsoever, here.

It appears in the C menu, because, like the Inventors Table, it is a *core* table. This is by design. It is exactly where it should be.

Besides...after the next update it wont matter anyhow. New quest interface for FU coming.

I'm sorry, but the "learn to play the damned game" logic doesn't stand up to scrutiny. I've been playing Starbound since it was a closed beta, and I've been a veteran of Frackin' Universe since it was called Frackin' Flora. I long ago L'd to P, nub, as the kids say. My criticism comes from a place of love. I *adore* Frackin' Universe, and have for years. If you don't like what I have to say, that's fine. Frackin' Universe is your baby, after all. But my feedback shouldn't be dismissed out of hand.

In an case, criticizing the player is a poor way to design a game.

While the table is definitely core to the FU experience, that doesn't mean it makes sense in the C menu. Consider this: of all the items in the C menu, there are exactly 2 that need processed materials in order to be crafted. The flag (which should be craftable on the fly because making warp points is extremely important out in the wilderness) and the Machining Table. The C menu has a clear purpose: making items that are important for exploration, using raw and unprocessed materials. The Machining Table is a clear outlier, an odd duck.

Heck, you need to make the inventor's table and the furnace in order to make the machining table anyway. Why not just put the table in with the rest of the workstations? It just makes the most sense, both from a gameplay and flavor perspective.

As an aside that's -1 in computer speak for a signed variable.
Looks like they aren't bounds checking the index in the loop, or they are comparing a signed to an unsigned variable (shudder).

    Have a good one,
    Freddy

Ok, I can't NOT mention this, is Phase Attack MEANT to last forever? It makes you invulnerable to (Nearly) all damage in the first place! Where do I even begin with this?

    1. Because it lasts forever, its basically a catch all in nearly every imaginable combat situation:
Near death? Go Invisible and run away.
Lots of enemies that can hurt each other? Go invisible and wait for them to kill each other! (Not a frequent occurrence, but it is most notably prevalent in the Highway Havoc mission, where you otherwise have a pretty real chance of dying)
It lets you safely cluster a group of enemies together to hit them all simultaneously. Works wonders everywhere!
When combined with a healing augment, you're literally unkillable unless the foe in question can 1 shot you. (Its frustratingly slow, but you can wait if your desperate...)

But wait, it gets even worse!

    2. The speed loss is irrelevant if you combine it with Air Dash II, (and your INVINCIBLE ON TOP OF MOVING STUPID FAST!)
    3. If you have any amount of energy other than 0, you can always save yourself. See point 1.
    4. The inability to use energy consuming weapons is insignificant given everything else.
    5. Phase Attack isn't all that hard to make in the first place. I could MAYBE understand it if it required super rare stuff to craft.

This ONE thing that you possibly just didn't realize is so good, makes the entire mod WORTHLESS! 0 out of 10! All the work you've put into this was TOTALLY FRUITLESS!

...But in all seriousness, it needs to wear off at some point by itself. It IS game breaking!

Also, minor bug, the Tentacool enemy faces the wrong direction when moving. I mean the eye isn't supposed to be facing away from you when its chasing you right?

quick question is it possable to make a gun that works like a watering can.that can be made real early in game? i got an admin code version that waters tilled ground but can't be used to damage anything.

    /spawnitem npcfloranassaultrifle 1 '{"shortdescription":"Even Better Watering Can","level":10,"seed":97,"animationCustom":{"sounds":{"fire":["/sfx/blocks/water_puddlemod.ogg"]}},"description":"A unique piece of Floran technology.","rarity":"essential","primaryAbility":{"projectileType":"watersprinkle","baseDps":0,"inaccuracy":0,"projectileParameters":{"speed":50,"power":0,"knockback":10}},"altAbilityType":"homingrocket","altAbility":{"projectileType":"glowstatusprojectile","baseDps":0,"projectileCount":3,"cooldownTime":0,"energyUsage":45,"inaccuracy":0.1,"boostForce" : 0,"projectileParameters":{"speed":40}},"tooltipKind":"base"}'
said admin code for reference in case it could help

    thats a better summation.

however, I took a page from vanilla and made the basic FU table crafted in the same place as the vanilla crafting table. Then had the NPC that instructs you to build said table tell you exactly where to do so. This way they are distinct. You aren't wrong here, but this is mainly opinion for this point. I see the merit of both methods.

The first bit re: learn to play: I don't think expecting players to *actually read* the text I took the time to type up for each quest is asking much. If they lack the forethought to read a sentence I have no pity for them not knowing what to do :) That was more my angle there.

the purification factory isnt an FU item, so I don't care what it does. Nor is it vanilla. I cannot possibly balance pixel value across 90000 user mods. Nor would I.

edited the tech for next release. should be quite decent and balanced now.

uses energy over time, giving you a short time to use it.
bonus damage is based on health+ energy. the less, the smaller the bonus

That can happen when it's russian translations.
