Just Q-toss it at your chickens and other newborn animals and they should gobble it up. I don't think the chicken feeder actually works yet.

I completed the Highway Havoc (T8+) mission with a Sentry Gun, Morphite MK2 armor, a regen3 aug, and a big stack of jilly roots... but it was extremely challenging and I had to move a lot, eat jillys like popcorn, and be very very lucky. And also cheese the end boss by finding a spot he couldn't OHKO me with his main cannon. It definitely felt challenging and deserving its rating, so I enjoyed that.

The only downside to the new missions is that you find them randomly, so there's a good chance you only find that low-tier mission after you've advanced to the point where it's no longer challenging. Unless you deliberately leave your best gear at home, just for the challenge.

just stick things in the same apiary until you've exhausted all possibilities? that's how I've been doing it. only valid pairings will activate the apiaries, so it's real easy to tell which ones work, unlike MC Forestry bees (man, if you don't know about the Escritoire over there, you are SO fucked...)

....wow, I should have reloaded my tab.

quick question where on the githhub do i go to to look up liquid/block interaction? i'm wanting to build a neat design i had but i want to make sure that the blocks/liquids won't change / mess up on me.

Unless FU bees have changed, it generally goes like this:

Forest/Honey/Flower: Found on various planets (Lush, Forest)
    Arid: Desert
    Snow: Snow (duh)
    Magma: Vanilla fiery stars
Metal Bees: Cyberspheres (they produce Tungsten last I checked)

    Snow+Magma = Adaptable
    Adaptable + Arid = Miner

Miner Bees + ____ Frame = Combs that produce that metal.

I never got into the radioactive bees, never saw the need because if you go to irradium or aether sea planets, you get more radioactive ore than you could possibly know what to do with, and you also get these ores out of extraction or byproducts of other stuff, too!

The real reason for radioactive bees(and plutonium bees and solarium bees) is for fission reactors, you get an infinite quantity of plutonium you can keep a fission reactor running at 40, solarium bees and solarium stars for infinite ultronium for the fission reactor, which is a nice substitute for a quantum if you don't have the densinium for a quantum. It's not the only way to get a lot of the stuff, of course. I mean atmosphere condensors on irradiated planets provide endless supplies of uranium and plutonium to.

plus ultronium + erchius converter = essence

  9. Xylia

    Xylia Tiy's Beard

*nods* Well, as you say, atmospheric condensers and such...

This yet again falls into the category of "too much work, too late, for too little rewards".

I could make a Radiation EPP III (or any armor that does similar, like Mutavisk), a couple solar panels with some cheap lights or what-not, and set up a Condenser on an Irradiated planet...

Or, I can try to breed radioactive bees which would take 10x as long, 10x the amount of effort and yield considerably less unless I use a crapton of aparies.

Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of Bees! I just wish it were more practical to use them, I wish it didn't take a ludicrous amount of start-up to get it done. And as far as crafting the Quantum generator... it really isn't that hard, lol. Densinium is somewhat rare-ish, but by the time you got Densinium, you should also have a Blast Furnace, and access to a number of worlds that oftentimes have Densinium (Atropus, Cyberspheres, etc).

My point is... you'll have materials to make a quantum long before you get the bees up and running to any capacity unless you are purposefully limiting the tech you're willing to use. And at least with the Quantum, there's no radioactivity or waste involved with its use, and the fuels are not hard to come by either, especially if you can find an Aether Sea (which is much easier now that you can click on a star and get a list of all the planets at that star).

EDIT: And that's assuming you even NEED a Quantum Generator. I dunno, but uh... my COMBUSTION generator is fulfilling everything I need it to do, albeit with a little more time. It runs the batteries that run my sifter, centrifuge, ansible, and Blast Furnace. I can dump 50 oil and have it hooked up to like 3 batteries simultaneously and it'll fill those batteries while I'm doing other stuff.

Honestly I'd think the radioactives and quantum would be overkill... unless you're doing thousands and thousands of powders/liquids at a time.

yo sayter, the 1.3.1 update apparently fixes the passive(monster)-aggression and nav-size bugs, you should probably test reverting your nav-change (if you aren't already on top of it, since you usually are on new patches like white on rice), see if the vanilla implementation works now. dunno if anything you're doing is affected by the passive-aggression bug, but thought it might be relevant. you're probably ahead of me on this, though.

also, man does this discussion sound EXACTLY like the ones about MC's Forestry mod. the thing is, many of the people who use bees, will use them regardless of actual profit in resources. I pretty much always do bees in both this and MC, but I hardly ever get to any of the ACTUALLY valuable bees in MC. why do I even do it then, you ask? I just like bees, that's all.

I pretty much do bees just for the fun of it. Like Xylia says, by the time you've got the bees to produce something, you've probably already found it the regular way. But I think it's cool to have a nook set up with a few dozen apiaries - one per type, maybe a few more Godly - just producing lots of stuff.

And then my crew wanders in and leaves the doors open, and suddenly we have bees all over the place. Fun!

  12. Xylia

    Xylia Tiy's Beard

What I do, is I ask a crew to follow me, and then I lead them to some area of the ship they cannot get back out of and I tell them to stay there. They will wander back and forth those same few rooms for the rest of the game.

I got SO SICK AND TIRED of the crew sitting in the captain's chair, opening/closing the door to the bridge (dunno how many times the same NPC closed the door in my face as soon as I opened it to go through the door) yadda yadda.

Crew are a serious PITA. They are highly annoying.

Really wish CF would re-work their behavior files or something.

I am really hoping we can replace crew with objects in the ship... at least an object won't sit in the captain's chair or open/close the doors in my face constantly.

You can also wire up doors to switches that the NPCs can't reach. So you can open and close them but they can't.

Hey sayter, is it ok if I make a custom compatibility patch mod for FU and ISE4 and upload it on the forum?
I'm asking you this because I think I should get your permission and the ISE4 modder's before I upload it.

This is what I'm planning to do...

    1. Make ISE4 crops(Rubber plant, Ore plant, etc.) growable using tray.
    2. Make a conversion table for similar items(sticky resin - resin, salt ore - sodium, etc.) (Not planning to make advanced alloys compatible! The tier difference is too big.)

so long as you arent using my assets and such, I don't care. Compatibility patches are fine.

Actually I tend to get plutonium bees pretty easily. Radioactive bees come from miner bees with a gold frame currently(once in a while anyways) and a single radioactive frame is all it takes to get miner bees to produce them. Miner bees can be found regularly on mountainous terrain which isn't particularly late, as mountainous tends to be tier 3.5ish. Now solarium bees, THOSE you have to get the adaptive bees(which require volcanic bees which are tier 6, in addition to arctic bees), as you need to then breed exceptional bees and then cross breed those with plutonium bees. But ultronium is really just a top tier fuel, as are solarium stars.

I usually often don't bother with solarium bees, with the most advanced bees I get being plutonium since you only need hardy bees to cross breed radioactive bees with.

    My usual "Bees!" path:
Get hardy bees from forest + honey. Also get flower bees on lush planets if possible(they dont' seem as necessary as you'd think).
Look for miner bees on mountainous planets.
Previously(before gold frame change): Once I get to tier 4, upgrade radiation protection pack to max, get uranium ore on an irradiated planet and make uranium frame, use that to make miner bees. OR get ansilus network and buy uranium and the proper mutagen.
Currently: Just use a gold frame, it can work. Uranium frame + miner bees = radioactive bees.
Cross breed radioactive bees with hardy bees = Plutonium bees.

I have infinite plutonium by the time I start going into tiers 5-6. With miner bees the way they are you can get plutonium bees in tier 3-4 easily now.

Ahh, I was not aware that miner bees were added to mountainous worlds.

That kinda nixes the whole "need to get snowy, magma, and arid bees to even try to get miners" deal.

I suppose that change kinda changes up the whole Bees! thing quite a bit, lol.

Well, that is, if you can SURVIVE on a Mountainous World long enough early game. There are lots of ludicrously nasty enemies on those, for them being 3.5 tier. Especially the red bulbops. *sigh* Who thought red bulbops were a good idea? Let's take THE most annoying enemy in the game, hands down, and make a red version of him that is 50x more annoying and more difficult to kill.

Ya, that's just...... fun. Just peachy.

For me it was the burrowers. I love their drops sometimes but not a fan of taking them on, particularly if you have more than 1 chasing you. The kind of freak me out too. Though, early cluster of penumbrite ore makes it almost worth the trouble.

  20. Xylia

That and they have freaking ultra durasteel titanium densinium plates and you have to do so much freaking damage to kill one of them.......and there's 3 more coming when you DO finally take it down.

It's nice to get extra ore, but yeesh. They take way too long to kill unless you're overgeared or have JUST the right weaponry (I had an ice spear with rocket spear, lol. Some of the worms didn't like it very much but it was useless against others).
