But at what cost? I noticed travel time is always the same regardless of distance, that is a vanilla thing. But making it even more slow and tedious than it already is, personally I don't see the point. RP'ing is cool and stuff, I get that but make it more realistic compared to what exactly?

Yeah, not making the connection between "My ship is really slow" and "realism".

I'm playing a sapient ambulatory plant with a railgun, a personal mini-mech, and the ability to leap fifty feet into the air. How's that "realistic"?

For that matter, it's a futuristic setting with space stations, FTL travel, and galaxy-wide colonization. Who's to say what's "realistic" in that setting? How fast are ships supposed to be? How fast do you need to be in order to reasonably operate on a galactic scale? Present-day tech wouldn't allow us to reach the nearest solar system within decades. Even traversing the solar system takes months and years. If you want to be able to hop around the galaxy, you need some very fast movement.

You don't like the speed personally, that's fine. But claiming it's "unrealistic" to make an objective fact, no. I'd wager that far more people would find slow movement irritating and tedious than they find fast movement bothersome.

Heating 2 and three EPPs do not seem to work on planets they are recommended for.The heating 3 EPP does not even work on dangerously cold planets.
I am currently using version 5.3.7.3

    they work 100% fine:

Take a few seconds to do math.

Are you using Frackin Races? Yes?
What is your races penalty against Cold? Subtract that from any and all cold resistance you are wearing. (Eg. being a race with -40% to Ice Resist, and wearing a pack with 40% protection from Ice means you have a net total of 0 resistance. If its a level 2 cold planet, that means you need +40% more resist)

You have a new total now. What is it? Does it surpass that planets resistance level? (I = 20%, II = 40%, 3 = 60%) No? Then you're going to suffer.

if you are not using FR, then : You have not travelled to a new area, and your planets are using the vanilla resistances in the region you are in. Nothing can be done about that, as those planets are already generated, unless you delete all those planet files.
You will need to relocate, or wear "immunity" variants for those effects in that particular region.

Seriously? You're going to pull the "realism" card in a game where we have FTL travel, energy barriers that let objects through but yet contain gravity and air, artificial gravity without explanation as to how it works, teleporters, magic wands/staves, backpacks that give you infinite oxygen, the ability to store giant vehicles into little tiny devices you carry in the palm of your hand, yadda yadda.

You're seriously going to complain about how fast your ship moves because of "realism" with all of the above going on?

If this game were "realistic", you'd have to farm for hours and hours and hours to get enough pixels to buy a launchpad, rockets, you'd only get a day or two worth in space until you had to re-enter the atmosphere and lose most of the materials you spent going up there to begin with.

If you want more realistic, go play Kerbal Space Program or something.

I have found an issue with the lab directory.
Trying to get the Nether-touched gene and it says that Shadow Root will produce it in the advanced xenolab. But when I put it in I get Shadow instead.

On a separate note all my wall storage units appear to have gone missing...

[Edit] It seems that taking my character onto a server we set up last night has caused them to disappear from my home planet. Doh! The one on the ship seems to have survived. Ah well, I'll just have to get some more stuff to replace what was lost :p

Skyrim is anything but realistic, in fact it's sword play is about as poorly thought out as it gets. "Yeah when your swinging a big heavy sword around your lower body has to compensate or you get thrown" uh, people need to watch "Buster sword busted" online before thinking bigger = better with swords. Starbound...really isn't a game for realism. I mean the swords size swung that fast even if the character is super strong would cause them to be tossed off their feet thanks to centrifugal force(the force the weapon exerts on you for swinging it) which...given the swords in starbound being even bigger then clouds buster sword(which exerts about 1,239 kg of force on cloud, without extreme friction in his arms and a means to transfer all that to the ground he's throwing himself off his feat realistically, imagine what swinging a sword about twice the size would do :/).

Ships moving at super high speeds would struggle to slow down in a vacuum, Newton's laws: Any object moving at high velocity will retain that velocity unless a force acts upon it. With nothing in space a ship wouldn't even be able to bring up any kind of "sail" to stop itself other than rockets moving in opposite with such perfect timing and calibration to bring it to a stop where it needed to go. :)

I do think though we do need to be able to see the planet size very badly. I try to avoid bigger worlds like the plague without fall protection and emergency teleporters. Yes i'm very paranoid about falling damage.

can we stop discussing realism? I'm just going to ignore that dude until he calms down the Annoy a tiny bit. You should too. Maybe if we don't answer, it'll just....go away.

yeah, anytime someone goes "but muh realism!" in a video game or modding forum, it's pretty much guaranteed to be a shitfest.

also, Starbound is not set in our reality, so all "realism" arguments are automatically invalid. the game mechanics of the current version ARE realistic... for the alternate-reality Earth on which the intro mission takes place. I mean, look at ferozium, solarium, durasteel and such, and point out where on the periodic table they are! tell me how our world, in a history where steel was retconned out of existence, or was 50/50 iron and copper, would reach the space age! tell me how the weather of an entire planet with a single terrain type ACTUALLY works scientifically! tell me how it's scientifically possible that every planet has only a couple dozen mineral types! the simple answer? YOU CAN'T!

going "but muh realism" is just completely nonsensical as an argument in a game so patently unlike our own world.

Oceanic and strange sea planets have very awkward / broken level chunk spawns. The sea floor is often hugging the bottom of the floating islands or absorbing them outright, island towns and NPCs spawn on the sea floor, and dungeons and cave networks spawn well above sea level.

Sayter Is it possible for you (or whoever does the sprites) to create a workbench that fits in a bit better with FU crafting stations? Just looks so out of place compared to the sleek futuristic stations. In fact most of the vanilla stations look way off in comparison.

Okay, feedback on the Heavy Mech Drone: Spawns in far too big numbers. I was exploring a cyber-world, and kept getting bogged down by 3-5 Drones constantly - soon as I killed one, more showed up. I could hold my own against them with some effort (Pyreite set armor, sentry railgun, Kevin, some Floralyt for healing), but the fact that more showed up and swarmed me like bees even as I tried to kill off even one (as well as their ability to shoot through blocks, thus negating any cover while making the environment a hindrance for me) made the fight extremely tedious and annoying (not to mention laggy). One would be a fun fight; an endless stream of them, less so.

I also tried switching to my mech, which held the ground against them a bit better. Unfortunately that came to a grinding halt when I stumbled across a shielded Apex city acting as a massive roadblock. The Apex were promptly massacred by the drones, again making me wonder why populated settlements can spawn on actively hostile planets.
