To be honest, I only ran that dungeon once after Glad...

I keep getting characters up near that point, but then I lose interest or something stupid happens and I end up starting a new one.

    But one of these days.........

At this point I'm thinking Frozen Wastes may be a bit too RNG. Yes, you will get everything eventually, but there may be a better solution.

Shoggoth Flesh. Right now as far as I can tell this stuff is only really used for the Shoggoth Armor set (and becoming insanely loaded on pixels)...but you get as much as you need for the armor in one kill. So I'd like to propose a solution. Let us craft those rare materials with Shoggoth Flesh...maybe 10-20 Flesh : 1 material ratio. That way we'd still need to run Frozen Wastes multiple times to get what we'd like...but hopefully not dozens of times. After all the runs I've done I've gotten ONE Blade Shard.

@Xylia: Yeah, I found that room in my first run. I'm not sure whether to take Sayter's implication of other secrets seriously. I have been very thorough searching that place.

Ah, but you fail to realize one simple fact: I never intended for people to go there over and over again to farm. The Elder content is supposed to be super rare, and not easy to get ...and certainly not from a single trip there. The idea was to get enough goods to make maybe ONE item, perhaps two or three depending on your luck.

but no, its used on the elder carbine, elder ripper, shoggoth armor, elder armor, elder spear, elder sword, elder dagger and numerous other goods. It all depends on the lore books you find to get the appropriate recipe

though at this point i think i may reexamine the drop rate in elder dungeons for those items specifically. they are set to VERY low. Ill increase chance to mitigate headaches.

depends when you last went through. The new secret areas were added a few days ago. Some will take some acrobatics and specific techs to get through. If you have the Bounce Sphere it will certainly be useful...

It's... a big deal actually. Lemme list the full effects of removed crewmember types I noticed while testing name changes:

    - The crewmember still shows up in the crew roster, but cannot be dismissed (meaning you basically are -1 maximum crew capacity FOREVER).

    - If the crewmember's class type was giving any passive buffs (on or off the ship versions), then ALL passive buffs from ALL crewmember types just BREAK. I had my hunters giving off an energy regen aura on the ship, and when they bugged out because I changed the class type's name, everything suddenly no longer worked - not the medic healing auras, nor any of the various types of chemist buffs.

*I actually have no idea if bug this ONLY occurs if the crewmember class removed possesses "beneficial auras" (or w.e. they are called in the files) - it still could happen even if they don't... =.=

While I did notice my Hunters missing a fair amount with the bows, it wasn't more than 50% of the time so I just decided to ignore it. I gave them a hunting knife that they seem to be quite proficient with for melee ranged enemies that will also cause meat to drop, so I was like "whatever".

I'm betting it's because the AI is not designed to target "shorter" creatures. The only time I see NPC's use bows is in Avian Tombs, and they only ever site on the player or other NPCs in those things.

This theory is also supported by the fact that when an NPC was missing with a bow, they always seem to be OVERSHOOTING, not UNDERSHOOTING. I think their AI tries to aim at "center mass" on the humanoid hitbox, which is why they miss on lot of the monsters (as a lot of them are at least half the height of the player lol).

    __________________________________________
I think all enemy AI's may be hardcoded for a specific size aiming box honestly.
For example, see go look at how much of a hard time melee flying enemies (birds) have when you are in one of those "morph balls" (or "distortion spheres" - like they're fooling anybody with the half-assed rename :] ).

yea, pretty much. Watch what NPCs and monsters ALL do with lobbed weapon types. Every single one aims at your feet, and thus almost never hits you

i got a kinda of stupid question. is the upgrade machine still in the mod? also i did the sience quest for building the nuclear core but i think it might had bugged out on me as i gave the quest giver the core and got the tech, but it's not counting it as done.

  9. sayter

    sayter The Waste of Time

if you got the tech , you completed the quest. Not sure why it didnt finish, but meh, it happens.

the upgrade station hasn't been in the mod since 1.0 launched, dude.

A few pages back I think it was Xylia that mentioned that certain planet types were rare. However, since then I've come across the ones mentioned multiple times and not seen any unfamiliar ones.

Are there some REALLY rare types I should be on the look-out for still?

I haven't updated to 4.1 yet(still on whatever version I downloaded last friday) but I am stuck on a planet where it's perpetually dark and I'm litterally unable to teleport off the planet. I seriously need help. And I also feel this is a class 10 violation of rules consistency: I'm on the SURFACE of the world, supposedly, and cannot teleport OFF the planet. To make things even MORE annoying when I travel UP I find the game switches to underground, what, the, hell? For craps sake, don't change the rules on the fly like that!

Edit: And suicided on my character to escape the planet. It was completely impossible to escape it otherwise. Any resources on "Unknown" planets just as well not exist in the game if the player has no means of escape.

is it an Unknown planet? if so, that could be the issue. Some of those have subterranean worlds...with suns and all the like. This is on purpose. Digging up will therefore bring you to a cave...until you get to the surface of the ACTUAL surface :)

quick solution for you though: /admin then beam to ship. then /admin again.

    problem solved.

Intentional? How about giving us a heads up next time? I gave up after 20 minutes of digging upwards. No heads up, I hate to say but thats really what artificial difficulty is, 100% unavoidable death with no player skill or choice involved.

Well, the SAIL does warn you before beaming down to an "Unknown" planet... you're taking a giant leap of faith when you do.

I did give you a heads up. In the planet orbit text, which you didn't read...or something. It also tells you the storm types, ore types and threat level of the planet. Unknown are *supposed* to be stupid, crazy and unexpected worlds. Avoid them and the problem doesn't happen. The risk is usually worth the reward on them. But I refuse to take the blame for your own free choice when there were warnings in place to tell you it was not safe :)

I've never actually explored an Unknown planet. I just figured it was a random FU planet... but if they are actually weird and stuff, with greater rewards... well. I might have to try it.

Also, they made Personal Teleporters for a reason.

If you're playing Survival, you REALLY should carry one on you at all times.

    pretty much this.

Why is it that every time someone doesn't pay attention to warnings and gets screwed in-game I always get hell for it? I'm not responsible. Hell, I've been to literally 50 unknown planets. I've died maybe once, because I come prepared ! Always a grappling hook, ALWAYS some resistance protection and always *always* some means to get back up if I need to.

Now that I've said that, I'm going to fall to my death on the next one I visit four seconds after landing, aren't I?
