    The reason Tungsten has the chemical symbol W is because it was classically known as Wolfram. Which is just about the most badass mineral name ever. Don't ask me who decided "Tungsten" sounded better, because they were wrong.

    yea, im currently fine tuning the arc smelter as it was just toooooo good. So it's severely nerfed but will still be extremely useful. Just need to get the values right. The biggest issue at first was it's speed. Zapping 1000 ore in like, 4 seconds, was just too potent. You'd get like...1000 ingots per 20 ore. nope. That just wouldn't be balanced at all. FU resources now smelt in it as well.

    The hydroponic station is really goddamned good with the FU seeds for those that don't want to bother with an actual farm. Build a few of them, dump in a seed of your choice as a stack. then water as a stack, and an optional fertilizer or pesticide. Yield increases with level of materials used. I like.

    adjusted the arc smelter significantly and added FU ores to its processing.

    hydroponics tray now uses FU plants as well

    tidewater and mountainous biomes now generate up to tier 5, rather than maxing at 3

    Why not just let all planets generate at all levels, like in Koala? Seems like it would be much easier...

    I've been experimenting with the arc smelter a bit, and I think it might be over-nerfed a little at this point, at least in the case of certain inputs... now, high value ores like rubium and penumbrite give a much worse return in it than the regular furnaces -- average roughly 1 bar per 7 ore, vs. 1 bar per 2 (rubium) or 4 (penumbrite) in the furnaces... even if the bonus outputs were much better/more common, they probably still couldn't make up for that difference). Low value inputs like direstone etc. seem pretty reasonable now, though (e.g. roughly 14-15 silicon+1 coal for 100 stone input)

    Yea, fine-tuning it is the trick. The main draw is the extra outputs which are much improved from the build I had up yesterday. Still needs some work though, given the cost of making the smelter itself and it's power requirements. I think the speed it smelts at is perfect now though. The smelter itself always consumes 4 for whatever the input is, and swapping that to 2 or 3 might be the simplest way to make it worthwhile. Not sure where you are getting 7 per from (unless you're using a slightly older build? ).

    I may just rework the lua a bit to take varying amounts based on the ore used (eventually) though.

    No, I have the most recent build from github; just checked. The 7-per is from what I observed in the game, rather than what's in the code; e.g. I got about 14-15 bars from every 100 ore I fed into the smelter. May be something messing with the timings if it's intended to be closer to 4, I dunno. Taking varying amounts based on the ore may well be the best way to handle it, yeah.

    Either that, or at least widen the range a little bit like you've doen with mountain and tidewater.

    That just makes me imagine a super dangerous Eden planet. Honestly, it makes sense that some planet types are inherently more dangerous than others.

    Well, the point is to have the earlier tier worlds accessible to "new" characters with greater ease. If all the planets in your home system are lush, desert, forest , moon... and then a ton of FU ones that will instantly kill you ....that makes resource acquisition a pain in the ass. Thus, some biomes are lower tier overall. But, at this point I don't think it's too big a deal. But, pretty much all biomes should generate above tier 3 now so that shouldn't be an issue now.[DOUBLEPOST=1445962752][/DOUBLEPOST]

    yea, currently rescripting the lua for it. It makes sense to do that, since there is no way I want people cheap-assing their way to 4500 Densinium. This way fine-tuning will be a bit more of a chore, but way more specific and easier to adjust after the fact. "oh ore X makes too much and ore Z makes too few" is simpler when I can customize each one individually.


    I'll need to take a look at the Powder Sifter to make sure its balanced, though it seems like its okay at first glance. Let me know your thoughts on that.


    And someone test out that Hydroponics Tray. I'm curious if its easily abused to mass-produce things that should take more effort than they do (though I don't think so, since I have no qualms making farming a faster process for those that don't want to plant actual farms). Also curious how balanced the fertilizer application is.

    How long does it take to produce say, 100 Silk ?

    Tested your Shoggoth dungeon and went 'woooooaaa!, finally, beyond the wall!'. had that feeling of running into the Others and wanting to get more and more of them, their stuff, research weird technology and plants of them.. Great, even in it's early 'bone-without-flesh'-status! I'd definitively like to see and get more of the elders. (btw, i had only 2 encounters with them on maybe 50 different planets i visited). :iswydt:

    Yea, it has a long way to go yet. But it's a great start. We're going (dasmole and I) to be adding a on of unique art assets to it for decoration and such so that it feels "alive" without so much empty space.

    The hugeness of it needs to be addressed still in various ways (namely by filling it with more stuff). There will be a ton more spawns in there for things besides the Starspawn, too

    I haven't looked as closely at the powder sifter output yet; partly because, yeah, it seemed pretty balanced already. The randomness of the outputs, plus the more limited selection of input (and there being good alternative uses for most of those inputs), would seem to make it difficult to abuse anyway.

    The Hydroponics Tray I've only tested with a handful of different plants, and without fertilizer (testing a small, "closed-sustainable" setup, condenser providing water for the tray, solar panels providing power for both); with Erithian Algae, which is fast-growing even when manually farmed, the production rates were definitely faster, but about what I'd expect considering the tray requires power and water (E. algae not consuming water when farmed conventionally). For a normally much-slower-growing plant like wretchel seeds, though, the tray harvest was considerably quicker/bigger than I was expecting. I suppose the script speed is currently the same no matter what plant is being grown? Whether it's unbalanced, I'm not sure. The plants I've found myself using a lot tend to grow fast anyway (corvex/algae), while I might not ever need more than a couple dozen of "slow" plants such as wretchels. For the Silk -- tested now, took appr. 12 minutes to produce 100 silk (again no fertilizer).

    While it's on my mind (currently plotting out questline revamp from the ground up) , thoughts on this:

    Normal Extractor : Can extract some materials. But no high-end ones. Low speed.
    Nuclear Extractor: Can extract most materials apart from uber-tier. Moderate Speed. Needs power.
    Quantum Extractor: Can extract anything it currently does. High speed. Needs power.

    not sure its needed but it might make things more interesting. I don't care either way (also, all of them could extract all items, i dont mind. I just figure the better versions could require power to justify the speed increase)


    Awesome. So it's doing about what I needed it to do. And yes, its a generic speed for production based on the fertilizer used and the liquid. If the edits to the arc smelter i am working on today function as desired I will try my hand at doing something similar for the hydrolab. I think the yield needs to be reduced a tiny bit but is not too bad overall though.

    Also, i forgot to note it, but last night I added corvex to a few more recipes since it was only used in one thing.

    For the extractors I get the sense if you make a Normal, you can make a Nuclear kind of quickly. Maybe ditch the Normal, start with the Nuclear. but provide a quest to make something to power it with first.

    No, the whole point is so that the powered stations always remain optional for those that do not want to wire up 30,000 things.

    it would basicalyl be the normal remaining as it is now


    nuclear would be 2x as fast

    quantum would be 4x as fast and with better output

    If that's your plan, then you shouldn't limit what can be extracted with the normal. I will say with that setup though, I would completely skip the Nuclear. Speed of extraction isn't a big issue, as I just leave it going while doing other stuff. It's the efficiency that I would consider important.
