so excited for elder content to be fleshed out... btw is there a tenant for elder furniture? itd be cool to have a cultist...

I find it odd that FU armours don't seem to protect you from base game hazards, yet can stop FU versions of them. For example it seems that if I go to a cold world with a cold-proof FU armour before I get the cold-proof nanotech I start to freeze. Just seems a bit odd that's all. I prefer to avoid the nanotech protections since I dislike being able to ingore hazards so easily and would have prefered using the right armour instead.

You made my day checking the updates to the forums after my break from Starbound. I'm so glad we manged to finally remove him from power.

Also it seems Canada has beat out Russia for sexiest world leader now.

Yeah, think SB a year ago. Armors with a bit less protection that let you explore more.

What we need is a better progression. A "crutch" armor that allows you to initially explore the planet type with less protection, until you can make the "all around" armor with enviromental protection and general protection.

    or something im tired

Depends on the suit of armor. Some of the FU armors protect against all of a status sort (heat, cold, radiation), others protect against one variety but not the other. This is intentional. One is "brrrrr holy crap its cold" and one is "its so cold if i took this off i would instantly shatter like a t-1000 covered in liquid nitrogen"

However, I would like to revisit the armors as a whole and rework their effects (eventually). But I have priorities :) Besides, if you want full protection from all: make a Field Generator pack !

Once CF has all 10 tiers of armors in, it will be much easier to arrange things. Right now it maxes out at tier 6, which makes things problematic to structure simply because I have to make certain one tier is not overloaded with armor while another has none, etc. At least with 10 tiers I know ideally there should be 2-3 suits per tier or something to that effect.

After doing so checking I think the real issue was that I was thinking that Spacer armour was cold proof since it had effects like liquidnitrogenImmunity. It turns out that it does not have any effect that stops normal cold, just the cold from liquid nitrogen. Seems a bit werid to me since space is rather cold (and rather hot too if you are in sunlight).

Can't have every suit resisting every effect. That said, I have been toying with the idea of making variants of suits with the same stats but completely different resistances. Then, you could make the Spacer armor and then toss it into the Nanofab and convert it into a Cold suit or some shit like that. On my own though, there is only so much I can do at a time lol.

Well I was thinking that Spacer armour would only need low level proction from hot and cold. In otherwords nothing you can't get from the nanotech in the base game.

On that note it might be a neat idea to have some sort of low level O2 supply. Say an air tank that only needs a bit of iron for those that wish to skip the nanotechs (if you get lucky in FU you can infact fix your ship without doing the quest if you find the right moon sub-biome). It could also be added to some armours that it would make sense for. So Spacer would clearly provide air while Bone armour would not help in the least.

I'll just point out that the nanotechs were a rather poor way to deal with hazardous biomes. The fact that you just ingore them after a certain point is fairly lame. It also looks dumb if you can run around a cold world naked and take no damage, but using high tech armour that could fend of warship grade attacks and you freeze to death.

Yea, I dislike the vanilla nanos as well, which is why i do it differently.

about to try testing the shoggoth dungeon without spawns and such in it. First attempt crashed starbound, which then locked up windows so I had to shut down. Blech. Hopefully this time it works.

    Live on Github

Shoggoth Dungeon test! NPC at the science outpost should give you the location. I didnt get the animation popup, but it did still appear in my missions tab. its very, very large so the teleport there will take a little while. For now, a testing tunnel exists right near your spawn that can fasttrack you to the boss itself.

Its far from done. Have a peek.

    - added new background parallaxes from Nightly to some biomes to see how they look

    - fixed up a slight issue with the vanilla biome spawn merges. I had them set to replace, rather than add to the list. Thanks to thunderbird123 for pointing it out. I’d totally forgotten about it.

    - removed “hive” block from the fu hive biome, as it has honeycombs and they clash.

    - fu ores will now drop on death on Normal mode.

    - significantly reduced the HP and touch damage on the night slimes on Gelatinous worlds (the old boss and its minions from EK stable) as they were far too tough for anything under tier 4 or 5 to even do decent damage against. This made it exceptionally hard to get enough Endomorphic Jelly for crafting slime gear.

    - added some protection to the above mentioned slimes

    - reduced loot amount on slime monsters as well. They were dropping entirely too many pixels.

hmm seems I forgot to make the dungeon a combat area. I'll have that fixed up tonight. But, you can still explore the monstrously huge dungeon.

... Gelatinous worlds give Jelly. No wonder. I was avoiding them like the plague. Damn, gonna have to go to them...

    sayter The Waste of Time

Yep. And to GET the Endo jelly, you're gonna have to kill the big-assed slimes. Thankfully that's possible with much greater ease with that update. They were bluddy insane before lol. Just watch out for the old EK slimeboss , as his attacks are way different. His poison cloud attack suuuuuuuuuuuucks :)

I'll be changing up their attacks a bit in the next while. Dungeon first though!

Also, if anyone has ANY feedback on the dungeon and additions it could use (I plan on making the over-ground portion substantially more interesting, with a ruined city and such, for instance) chime in. It's early enough in it's design that I could rework chunks of it without caring too much.

I also need to see how to get the Ice Waste weather appearing there, since it really needs it.

Also, the Obsidian blocks will be subbed out for another block type. I forgot to create the tile, so its a placeholder :)

Yea, I find that there are a lot of planets I just avoid, as they seem somewhat useless compared to others. Meanwhile there are then planets I find myself hitting every time I see them, as they are the only source of valuable resources (like Metal Moons).

    sayter The Waste of Time

Almost every biome, save for Eden , has at least one resource few (if any) other biomes have. This way you *must* go to them all if you want to get every resource. There may be one or two biomes that do not yet fit this bill but it will not remain that way for much longer. You're never obligated to of course, since many items have a similar variant that can be crafted via another method.

Rough list off the top of my head:

Desert Waste - none , per se. But sand, which means Silicon.
Tar Ball - pretty self explanatory. Great source for oil.
Mountainous - none per se, though it has kick-ass trolls. I'll eventually get something into these ones though.
    Tidewater - Plageis Nodule, Coral
Fungal - while not "unique", the absolutely best source for bioshrooms and glow blocks
Frozen Volcanic - mainly lots of useful ores
Lightless Sphere - Densinium. More coming. I may also move Shadow Gas to this biome instead of Metallic Moons since they have plenty of their own resources now.
Frozen Moon - many useful ores, plus shadow gas.
Ice Waste - high end ores, but eventually will have other things. Ice Crystals are pretty much a shoe-in, once I can get more uses implemented for them.
Sulphuric - best source for Sulphuric Acid and Cinnabar
Metallic Moon - Helium 3, Shadow Gas
Proto World - Protocite, liquid protocite
    Penumbra - Penumbrite
    Rainforest - Bamboo, Fossils
Primeval/Volcanic Primeval - Algae, Fossils, Dinosaur Eggs
Bog - best source for algae (bio-fuel) especially when it rains.
Infernus - Magma Stone, Black Ash, Cinnabar
    Crystal Moon - Lunari Crystal
Wasteland - nothing "unique" at present, but a variety of cool stuff can be found.
Gelatinous - Endomorphic Jelly, transparent slime, slime
    Bloodstone - Quietus (via extraction)
    Irradiated - Irradium, liquid Irradium
Atropus - Hellstone, Pus, Blood, Flesh. More later.
Nitrogen Sea - Plageis Nodule, Coral
Shadow Moon - resource rich. Will have Shadow Gas in next update (forgot to add)

Most of this is probably stated in the biomes section of the main page, though I may be mistaken on that.
My head hurts from trying to remember all of the above.

and if anyone has suggestions for unique resources for biomes, feel free to chime in there, too. So long as it's "realistic" (so to speak) and has a use beyond "its there because it is there", it will be seriously considered!

I think the problem is I'm spending so much time on Metal Moons trying (and failing) to find Helium-3, that even if other planets are "better" sources of some of the ores, I already have more than I will need. The only places I have found I needed to visit were vanilla Desert (why go to a more dangerous desert for no extra benefit?), Irradiated, Proto, Penumbra, Sulphuric, Blood, Atropus, and Metal Moon. I'll also need to hit Gelatinous, just haven't done so yet. Other stuff I might just have not hit a need for yet, but I'll basically never go to any of those that are "resource rich" or "good source for ores", since I need stuff specific to certain planets.

  16. sayter

    sayter The Waste of Time

And that's exactly as I intended it.

I'll look into making Helium-3 a tiny bit easier to locate (or alternatively, a way to manufacture it in the lab)

One thing I am considering at the moment is splitting up the "FU" ores like Lazulite and Berlinite, etc into specific biomes. For example, perhaps Lazulite is only found on Mountainous worlds while Mascagnite only appears on Bog. That sort of thing. However, since you need most of them early on this seems unwise. Before tier 3 or 4 you just don't have the luxury of zooming around the universe because you lack sufficient fuel to even consider that as an option.

  17. DeNarr

    DeNarr Subatomic Cosmonaut

Well, I think I would be okay with more biome specific ores if the chance of getting them on that biome were raised by a lot, so that you don't have to scour the planet to find that ore. Like, I was surprised at how long I had to search to find protocite on the proto world. I thought maybe I had gotten something wrong.

  18. sayter

    sayter The Waste of Time

actually, protocite is insanely easy to get. There are plants on the surface that produce it when smashed (they are the "floating" plants with a bubble on top). You can walk around the surface killing those and leave with 100+ without even needing to mine ! Underground it's pretty common once you hit a certain depth as well (and the higher the tier, the greater the chance)

Huh, I would have swore I read something that said the trees no longer did that, so I never even tried, but I can't find it now.

  20. sayter

    sayter The Waste of Time

the TREES no longer do that. The little plants I mentioned, do (for the time being, that will change later on)

aaaand now I am working out improved/changed ores and ore types. Damn you! lol.

    Looks like:

Lazulite: not too incredibly useful. Makes phosphorus, but so do sandstone, berlinite and two of the bloodstone tiles. Magnesium powder can be gained from Magnesium.

Berlinite, likewise, seems less useful than it once did. All it makes is phosphorus.

Mascagnite is also not incredibly useful anymore. Obsidian shards, magma rock, several seeds, coal and core fragments produce ammonium sulfate just as readily. That is all it can produce.

I could probably swap those out for new resources with more utility. Food for thought, anyhow. I could remove them and there would be little to no change in-game apart from slightly less saturation of the goods produced. Which is easily fixed by increasing the amount given by the other available sources.

That would "free up" three ore slots to use on other biomes (at this point I'd rather not add more clutter if I can simply repurpose it instead!)
