I tried using it, but the only useful information was the list of extractables. And even that was confusing, since it didn't differentiate similar blocks (Says both Oil and Silicon come from "Sand").

Does no one read the update notes? I added some additional tenants recently. And I've added several prior, as well :) The brew guy is the Brew-Master. If you change up the furniture spread a bit, you could end up with the Town Drunk instead :)

Have been enjoying getting back into FU after a long Starbound hiatus; awesome to see how much the mod has grown over these last two years! Really pleased to see StarBooze brought back to life as well, along with Starfoundry probably the mod I miss(ed) most from the Koala days. :)

Had a little trouble with erithian algae though; when planted the seeds would break itself after ~1 second, basically giving back the seed. Searching this thread and checking the relevant file for clues to why this was happening, I noticed it has a 'minImmersion' value set; and sure enough, I could plant them with no problem as long as I first submerged the soil in water. Which is fine, except the most recent mention in this thread of the plant outright states that submerging it isn't needed anymore:
So, a bug I suppose? :gooby:

question is there a plant i can use to get nutrent paste from? the only way i know how to get any is from dirt and i rather not have to strip a planet of 10k dirt.

There are about 100 different ways to get nutrient paste. its up to you to figure out what to use.[DOUBLEPOST=1444735013][/DOUBLEPOST]

no, not a bug. intentional. Playing with the new values to see what they do, exactly. I'll have that fixed up in the github release in a few minutes. Basically, I was curious exactly what minImmersion did, but had forgotten to remove the values :) edit: forgot to commit my changes this morn, will do so tonight.

I'd just love some clearer directions on some of the quests. Sometimes they tell you to get something or make something, with no directions on how to do this. (Mutavisk Helm, Chillis, Biospores)

That's because other quests do it for you. The station quests inform you what each station is used to create. The rest is for you to fill in the blanks with , on purpose. It's not tough to figure out simply by looking through the stations. You need only open the crafting menu of a station to see what it can produce. Common sense does the rest. Only one station makes plants. So, you open the design lab and find the plant mentioned. It will give you the ingredients required as crafting has always done in SB. The rest is for you to figure out. The whole point is to experiment!

Which is how I've muddled through some of the quests so far. The fact that they are given in parallel though, even though sometimes you need to complete portions of a different quest chain doesn't help. The problem is I have a feeling that I need to make something specific to unlock the recipes needed, but I don't know what.

As an example, the Mutavisk Helm quest doesn't give you the recipe. I can take a guess that is uses something called Mutavisk though, so I look through all the stations. Nothing is called Mutavisk or has that in it's name. If it's a craftable thing, apparently I have to make something else to unlock the recipe, but I am given no clue as to what it is.

mutavisk is a tier 1 plant. You need only build the very, very basic plants to unlock its recipe. I'm not here to hold peoples hands through every step. It's the players job to experiment and learn. That said, the quests could use some love. But I am in no rush to do so until the quest engine has more functionality. Once we can do more than Fetch quests I'll take a look at reworking them. For now, they get people going in the mod and the rest is up to them , as was always the goal.

I was merely giving an example of one of the quests that aren't very intuitive, and left me grasping. I looked through the code, and found that I apparently need to make Cell Hardening I to unlock the recipe for the mutavisk seed. That's not something I was going to make anytime soon on my own, as it requires Iodine, which I never picked up, nor saw a way to craft.

Now, since I'm looking through the code anyways, I saw that Iodine apparently is extracted from Caliche Stone, which I've just never ran across. Since that's apparently the only way to get iodine, a quest being told to create some iodine before getting the Mutavisk Helm quest would be nice, as it teaches you how to get a key ingredient, and then you'll happen to have it when experimenting with the xeno designs.

Edit: Slight correction, I have ran into Caliche Stone, I just turned it all into Saltpeter, as I didn't know it had multiple uses.

Because you didn't experiment :) See what I mean? There is too much in the mod to POSSIBLY cover all the bases with it. I am one person, and can only do so much. The quests were never intended to give all the answers (nor will they do so ever, for that matter).

You're right about one thing though: I should probably get a second means to get iodine. I'd actually forgotten there are few avenues for that material.

As for "not building cell hardening 1 any time soon" : Again, not an issue I deem a problem. Someone opting to not build the most basic recipes in the Xeno lab is their choice, If the plants aren't their thing, that's fine but they should expect to not have access to all the gear and recipes as a result. You certainly aren't obligated to build and unlock everything in the mod and I wouldn't expect everyone to.

Well, I try to be careful with the extractor, as they can take huge chunks of the base material only to give you something you don't want. Since it specifically said it was high in Saltpeter, and I had no idea how much I would need, I didn't want to lose 50 just to get a "Raw Material". (That seems to be the most common conversion of blocks).

Actually, that makes me think of a really cool idea. Think that we could use a Microscope (or something similar) to tell us what we would get for extracting a material? Save potential waste by taking extra precautions.

I have 0 interest in coding lua for something that includes every....single...object.... to give results from. No thanks. The idea has merit, but seems rather needless. toss 50 of a material in and get a result. if its not what you want, dont repeat the experience and problem solved :)

Raw Minerals typically are the result of "rocky" tiles, so you aren't wrong on the assumption. But you don't know till you try. Hell, a few rock blocks give some VERY valuable resources. You won't know till you try, though.
