You said "Github keeps crashing". Did you meant the official GUI client?

Because I don't use it. Instead, I've installed TortoiseSVN (not TortoiseGit) and committing any changes straight from Windows Explorer. It's extremely easy to use, so you may give it a try. :)

well, long story short: changed some stuff around on my HomeGroup at the house...and now everything on my network refuses to see anythign other than "administrator" (despite not sharing anything related to Admin). Github then stopped recognizing my repo. Which makes no sense, but there you have it. Cloned the old repo to make a new one, now commits just crash the GUI when they didn't do so before.

3 hours of troubleshooting to no avail. Can't find useful help online thus far.

You may have a malware. That would explain the lot of problems you have.

Good point, actually. I'll check that too, while I am at it. I did get a notice a day ago about adware from my antivirus. I'm normalyl militant about it...but the wife downloaded something without clearing it with me

When did you download it? I just uploaded a replacement.

Can you please supply an error log, as plainly stated in bright red text at the very top of the main mod page? "it keeps crashing please fix" doesn't help anyone.

Sir, it seemed there is an Item Exeption.

It says No such item: omegaboosttechgrant.

It can't create a blueprint from an item.

    Seems you forgot one....

(Can't bother to show the Log, since i know this bug.)

Works fine to me. You should check if you don't have something that prevent you to access that site.

I already check that. It was working fine last time, but not here anymore.

Do you have a download that helps me to get the latest version? I am having trouble with that.

Also, it seemed you hacked the download of the mod to get around the error. That's what my theroy is.

    Or it's just pure luck?

Download is working fine here, too.

I'd say "try the github" but right now that is not an option. Once I get my system fixed up, I'll update github and then you can simply use that.

Is there any version that works in enraged koala? or upbeat giraffe? most mods don't really show which version they work in...

really thankful for the media fire link.

I am still having problems with the main link for some reason, i was able to download up to 1.4.8.1 without problems and after that the page fails to load every time.

    As always thanks for sharing!.

If you ask around, someone might have one of the older releases, OR maybe github itself might have older releases. The last versions called R#### [numbers] should be for enraged koala, and most in between the current 1.4.x.x and anything 1.0 should be for upbeat giraffe.
I could be talking nonsense, but yeah, who knows.

I see no reason to go back, and delete old versions. They are obsolete. Github is all.[DOUBLEPOST=1432784656][/DOUBLEPOST]Github is back up. Those of you wanted snow protection, the snow pants are now available. Simply pick up a matter assembler to unlock it's recipe.

Sooo. I've been thinking. And reading this thread. And looking at the stuff that people have been saying in response to the latest updates. And I've been thinking some more.

And I'm thinking that maybe, messing with the vanilla biomes isn't in this mod's best interest.

Hear me out for a second. Frackin' Universe is already a hugely, incredibly, universally ginormous mod. It is such a big mod, it is practically a game unto itself (which is something that I've said before). It is so big, that it has its own internal tiering and balance. It has its own items designed specifically to deal with its own particular biomes and resources. And as long as the mod keeps its internal ecosystems to itself, you have a good idea what to expect and prepare for on an FU planet vs. a vanilla one, so you know which particular game's balance you're dealing with.

But the more this mod starts to mess around with what's in vanilla, the more you start taking the balancing of vanilla onto yourself, which means you're effectively building and designing for two different games at once. One of which you have no or minimal control over.

Dreadwing is a perfect example. Suddenly, a boss fight from vanilla, which was already tweaked and balanced in a particular way, has a whole new set of circumstances attached to it. And yes, there is an armor makeable that will reduce the effects it applies... But that means that particular armor needs to be balanced and capable of being used against that boss, and doesn't leave the player more vulnerable and underpowered than they would be in vanilla. With every vanilla-related thing the mod tweaks, the potential for circumstances like that rises more and more. That's a heck of a lot to keep track of. It can also make exploring vanilla planets more stressful for players due to (if I may borrow a phrase from moseythepirate here) complexity creep--suddenly, every planet they could possibly visit can throw way more potential things at them, and even with garden planets being toned down, if a low-level arid planet can still chuck a harsh toxic biome at them out the starting gate, I feel like that makes exploration more stressful. It also frontloads the beginning of the game with hunting for or "solutions" to these problems, like slime leaf, rather than allowing the player (especially one developing a new character) to choose when and how they start doing FU stuff. It also makes the early-game difficulty curve a lot more uneven. Sure, you can items to help deal with this, but they still have to be built and weighted such to be both FU and vanilla compatible when you try to integrate the two gameworlds so tightly.

Plus, previously, one of the strengths of FU (as I've seen it) is that the player has been free to explore and enjoy it at their own pace. You can start doing FU stuff right away, or you can wait until your character is more established. You could integrate it into your playthrough of the game, or you could use it to give yourself more to do after you've completed most of vanilla. You could choose to have vanilla-only characters and ones who do the FU stuff. But the more you press the two of them together, the more you remove that option from the hands of players. Plus, you give yourself way more crap to do in ensuring all of the stuff plays nice together. I haven't updated my mod in a while and been keeping to the outdated versions because I am one of those people who likes having vanilla-only characters living alongside all-decked-out-in-FU characters, and I'm worried about the progression for my vanilla chars the latest updates would bring.

So yeah. I'm worried about what the integration of FU and vanilla is doing to game balance, and I fear you're creating piles of more work for yourself. I appreciate the drive to always add more and to give the game new and interesting things to do, but I feel like FU's primary focus should be on bettering those things that are exclusive to itself and those unique things only it can offer, since you know with absolute certainty where those parts of it are going and how they interact with each other. In short.
