One possible suggestion, with all the new Graphene and advanced circuits and such, you need a LOT more silicon and it takes an annoying large amount of crystal blocks to make. Perhaps slightly reduce the amount to extract silicon. I've gone through like 4000 crystal blocks and still need much MUCH more.

    Just something to think about.

Edit: Or with further thought maybe a plant that grows silicon.. I know you can "grow" it after a fashion in real life after all...

This is why you strip mine a moon layer by layer until you reach the core. :p I think someone youtubed actually DOING so... took him... 12-14 hours I think with a full-powered MM?

You know FU has a public repo right?

Unless its changed for some reason, you can just mine asteroid rock. Meteor rock. whatever the game calls it. Go to an asteroid field, is what I'm saying. I extract that stuff for silicon instead, seems to give better returns.

I tried to go into the metadata and change the FTL quest to unfinished so I could finish it again, but loading the character crashed the game. I changed it back, but it acted as if the file got wiped, and did indeed start me anew, ship upgrades and all. Funnily enough, all the objects (Like manually-placed lights and walls) remained, outside of the buildable area, so re-reprogressing through the missions slowly rebuilt my ship without me having to replace anything.
I've again completed the FTL mission, though, and made sure FU is installed, and still no apex scientist mission. I noticed on a previous run that I had to have the 4 boss missions complete before I could get the science outpost one, though.

One slight art critique, the really dark black on the edges of the Explorer Power Legs clashes with the faded shading of the rest of the armor, and makes it look...off. Either the shading on the rest should be darker or the darkest leg bits should be lightened.

Dude, you're doing something wrong, then. I've done the quest runthrough about 20 times now and never had an issue. The second you complete the mining mission and get access to the Outpost that scientist gives the quest just fine. He's usually on the second floor and he wears a monacle or some crap like that. Your race should not matter at all, since that's a generic step.[DOUBLEPOST=1426070765][/DOUBLEPOST]
Not everyone can mod, dude. lol.[DOUBLEPOST=1426070933][/DOUBLEPOST]

Well, I've increased the output since so few things produce silicon. However, you could also unlock the Quantum Extractor which will immediately double your output. That's why it exists! But no, I get it. That much mining is a slog. So I effectively doubled the amount produced when extracted for the next update.[DOUBLEPOST=1426071303][/DOUBLEPOST]
I disagree, and don't mind it at all. Can't please everyone :) The color scheme/shading is the same across the entire suit. I work in greyscale and then adjust hues and saturation for each piece the same way.

On my Hylotl, every time I got back to the Outpost, I accepted every quest there. I didn't get the "Bring me glass" quest until nearly the very end, and I'm certain of that. Every time I thought I got all the quests, I'd make one last round to make sure, and it wasn't until after I'd finished the last boss that I got that one. I remember sighing a bit, thinking to myself "I have to go through all that before I can get here again?"

I'm not sure what I COULD be doing wrong.

    weird.

when using a new character, turning on admin mode, and fast-completing the FTL quest mession on SAIL, it appears right after that without fail every time. Go to Outpost, talk to guy, start quests. No one else is reporting your issue, either.

I'll be thinking on a way to "skip" the tutorials for those who don't want to deal with all that crap. What will probably happen is I will make an NPC that offers all the blueprints with a simple "Doing this will not "skip" the tutorials, but will unlock all the station blueprints" and leave it at that. It won't break anything to give them all the recipes since they still have to build the stations anyhow.

Even with the new wording of some of your quests I managed to get confused in Mattersville.
After a look at the code I realized, that I had to bring the finished matter assembler to the scientist in the outpost to finish and go on. Maybe if you wrote something like "Now craft the matter assembler and show it to me once you have done so. It is an important..."
To me this would certainly clear things up, but then maybe I am the only one with that problem.

Also, a few random ideas here.
    • Silicon in our world is Siliciumdioxide -SiO2- basically rusted sand, so maybe if you could add an option to craft it at the chemistry lab, with sand and oxygen (once your gasses are working as intended [shivering with anticipation])? To keep the necessity to go to crystal moons or asteroid fields you could introduce stuff like germanium/indium/gallium/thallium (which are used to lace basic silicium in transistors so them things do even work at all). This would lead to separate strains of basic silicon / laced silicon for basic / electronic chip applications.
    • Guano for fertilizer. End of 19th/beginning of 20th century fleets of ships went to Peru to mine Guano (cormorant shit) for fertilizer. How about making Guano a kind of soil block to appear along sand on ocean islands (seabirds needed - current practice is raiding cormorant rookeries for their shit errrm guano. Real world cormorants don't mind, but starbound even says so: Birds are not your friends...)? This would lead to an option to extract fertilizer, instead of building it up from its components.
Feel free to use, modify or ignore as you see fit.

silicon was problematic, i had to make t viable without being common. Otherwise id have had sand/silicate do the trick. Went with crystal instead based on what was available. Good idea though, still. Im fine tuning shit as i go, still :)

No, I mean you can grab any previous version you like. Just go here, find the version you want, click the < >(i.e. Browse the repository at this time in history) on the right side of the commit box and hit Download ZIP at the bottom of the right-hand panel.

That's a funny way of saying that you added the Czochralski process into the game. :V

Seed Silicon + Raw Minerals + Fuel Source => Seed Silicon + random amount of silicon based on fuel used?

e: limiting it by requiring dopants is a legit idea too

That's the exact process I used as a research base for it, and why I went with crystals :) But I'm not making it any more complex than it already is. Silicon is a LOT more important in the mod now , and I'd rather not make it a chore to get enough of it to use. That's not fun for most people. So I just went with Extractor for that reason. But, adding a second recipe can't hurt. I'll do that now, because why the heck not. I'll simply use the default Crystal item (which they'll have plenty of from Crystal Moons anyway) and go from there. Array is probably the best bet for it.

Out of curiousity, which of you guys recently added a page to the wiki about extraction stuff and gave me the title "resident editress"? Apparently thats a real word, I didn't even know that until today. I learned a thing.

Also you made me feel like I have a title to live up to now. Which is great because I broke that page like five times trying to edit it and I'm still not sure what I even did. Then again replace the word "page" with "code" and you have programmers in a nutshell.

You found a time traveler from the 18th century, don't let them get away. We, uh, need them for uh... science?

Oh please I don't use humans for science. That wouldn't be ethical. Unless they're not aware of it. Then its like it didn't actually happen, right? Yes, thats how that works.

So while thinking about how impractical it would be to create and maintain a million wiki pages, I discovered the magical world of wiki bots.

    Sleep's for casuals, anyway.

    Obligatory

But more importantly, you mean that there's bots that can be obsessive about punctuation and grammar for me? Can they make double bullet lists? Can they make the pictures look a bit "neater" and less just.. "there"? Can they see why kids love Cinnamon Toast Crunch?

  20. GROVER CURES HOUSES

    GROVER CURES HOUSES Void-Bound Voyager

I have a semi-complete tool for wrangling starbound json, so I hope it will be fairly straight forward to get it to spit out wiki pages. For example, you could ask where Cell Material spawns and it will hand you a bunch of biome data, recipes and treasure tables. The real goal is to verify that Cell Material exists and does everything it references, so the output is an unsorted mess, but I think I can make it work.
