Continuing my /admin random wanderings, I find another planet with an ocean generated but it abruptly cuts off mid generation when it hits another biome.

 

Are you on an Unknown Star Planet? They're meant to have wild biome generation, but probably not THAT insane.

 

No, that was a proto world (edit: orbiting a binary star). I didn't take down the coords, but I did take a screen shot. I'll upload it if you want.

Edit: Oooh, this is neat. Looks like another planet around a dying star had its crust stripped, the only piece of land is a rock floating in midair and at "deep rock background" level, a sulfuric ocean that covers the planet.

 

Pretty sure Proto Worlds shouldn't have an ocean on them. That sounds like a massive biome gen error.

Dark Gas is the gas experiment, yea. I need to see if there is a way to make water be totally frictionless and ignore the usual swim shit. Then I can do it in a better way.

Gotta travel quite a bit to the right though, maybe halfway, past one or two ruins-biomes.

 

That's definitely a biome error. Sayter, may wanna look into this one.

 

That doesn't look like a proto-world to me. That looks like an Unknown.

Also, that looks to be an Ocean Floor biome. Those don't natively spawn on FU surfaces apart from the Unkknowns. That said, could be an anomaly.

not an ocean floor, but still oceanic. Gotta be the culprit.

last in the list for proto subbiomes. They really need to fix how water generates as Oceans so that it only starts when you hit a certain elevation (ie: the neighboring subbiome/mainbiome)

i'll remove that from the list for proto. Doesn't suit it anyhow.

Glad to be of service. Amazing what kinds of weirdness come up when you put together so many biomes / worlds / etc. There's "always something" that gets... weird (such as that "dark gas", which I simply call the Blackness from now on... heh)

So, looking at it, I see nothing related to FF causing issues with the quests in Starbound. As I suspected, since no one else has reported this at all.

which is odd. Not sure what's up with that planet file, but that wont be the source either.

You have a shitload of mods running. It could be literally any of them causing the issue with the default quests.

I suggest doing what you clearly did not do, given the context of our discussion on my wall, and go through each and every mod you are using. Read their pages, read their comments or reviews... see if any of them reported the same problem or outright state it is a problem on their main pages. It's quite possible this is already present on one of the pages.

If you find no answers, uninstall every single mod and try one at a time until you find the issue.

Actually, the gas was 100% intentional (apart from the fish inside of the gas lolol) I was hoping something I did modified how you interact with it so it would be less..er... floaty. But nope. Kept it in to play around with because I was having tons of fun with them.

Don't forget to harvest some with your MM You'll probably want some of the gas eventually.

But yea, I am going to scrap "oceans" of the stuff, more than likely, in favor of smaller pools. Perhaps find ways to spawn it naturally instead of "always" being there. It's in, for sure, at this point. It's just a matter of how to make it fun without being ridiculous.

Also possible. Quests are finicky pricks in Starbound. They don't like to be modified on the fly without inserting large, painful objects into existing characters.

Or rather, you can modify them, but it wont modify that quest on people that already HAVE it. You cant REMOVE the quests or they will break for SURE.... so yea. Fun times.

as a last resort you can nuke your Metadata files and start all the quests all over again,but that sucks mega ass.

Looks like the only errors I see are from lazerus dungeons and a lack of space for a drop. *shrug*

Ok now i'm not sure if this is the right place or not to ask questions. But i have been googling for one hour or so and i can't seem to get the right answers. I have been trying to make mutavisk silk for a quest. I found a ''wild mutavisk'' but it only produced resin, i am not sure if it's the right material but i have no idea how to use it, the quest doesn't even say how to use it (note that i discovered that there is a ''mutavisk'' in one of the labs at the science outpost, i don't know the different with wild mutavisk and mutavisk tho). Another thing i have trouble is plastic. I gained some silk from a quest and that is about it, i heard that you can get silk from ''bracken trees'' but i have no idea where to find a ''bracken'' tree. Can someone help me? It's getting very frustating that i can't progress the game.

just drag and drop this into your quests folder int he FU directory. You should be able to go without the "quests.config" file though.

1. Update your mod. All mutavisk plants now drop mutavisk silk, including wild ones. There was an error in the harvest file with that.

1b. Read update notes when updates happen. The mutavisk thing was commented on in it.

2. There is only one station you make plants at in the mod: The Design Lab. That is where you make Bracken trees.

3. Complete the quests until you unlock the Xeno and Gene Design labs and you're good to go. Pretty straightforward really. If you are "stuck" on a mission, try one of the others , since it might unlock the next step. It sounds like you already HAVE a design lab though, or at least know the plant exists due to seeing it IN the design lab on the outpost.

4. Visit the science outpost now and then to see if new " ! " popups are there with the npcs. One of the dudes likes to hang out in the bathroom on the far end of the base. I suspect he ate too much Blister Chili and has serious issues with poop as a result.

If all else fails, listen to the common-sense voice in your head:

"is it a gene?" asks the common sense voice. If yes, Xeno Lab.
"do i need to break this down into somethign else?" if yes, Extractor.
"is it a fucking plant?" if yes, Design lab
"is it a high-tier ore?" if yes? Fission Furnace
"is it a chemical or otherwise complicated science-thing?" if yes, BioChem Lab
"is it gear?" if yes, Matter Assembler
"is it something I can't yet figure out and doesn't seem to be anywhere else?" then , Sampling Array. And don't ask where sampling array recipes are. You can check the mods main page in the labs section for the basic recipes. The rest are given in loot books in-game that are rare.


and so on.

The quests make it pretty clear, and failing that, there are in-game guide books both in your Crafting Table, and the bookshelf on the science outpost to help you. They could not be any simpler.

before long you'll have more silk and resin than you know what to do with. Then you'll contemplate burning down your lab in a rage due to having so much of it.

I'm curious regarding your permissions for this mod. Especially the "Do not include in compilations" part.

A few of us on IRC were interested in trying to play this cooperatively online, so I put up a quick server and linked people to the mod page. Initially this was okay, but with the constant updates (Which are great to see) - it means that linking people to mod page guarantees that they'll be downloading a newer version than the server is running, naturally messing up the somewhat frail client/server syncing.

Now, this is a great mod/overhaul, and running a server with it has been a blast. But alongside adding additional mods, it seems a bit of a nightmare to link someone to all the various mod pages and ensure that they find/download the same version running on the server. (Which will lag behind a bit, as the server needs to remain stable/keep character data safe, so I'd rather update it for larger updates rather than hotfixes)

With all of that said, I was wondering if it would be okay if I link people to a mirror of the current version of Frackin' on the server (just a small one for a group of friends atm), with proper attribution and a link to the mod page so that people can get the info and so forth.

I'm just interested in making life easier for people for people interested in playing a modded starbound online, but as it stands, with mod permissions, this is very difficult. Would you be willing to grant permission to distribute specific versions via mirrors?
Perhaps even include a few other mods alongside it, in one download? I want to be cautious here, but it really is a blast playing with friends/a community, but it's very difficult to get people involved if they need to do too much manual downloading/extracting.

How would I make the quests appear for an already-existing character of a custom race? Is there something I have to modify/add somewhere? I'd rather not have to start over again, but I didn't realize FU was uninstalled while I was playing through the quests to get to the FU ones.
