    The problem is, that you can actually bottle neck on the quests, where you have two quests for mutavisk, but no blueprint for the equipment to put it together. Basically no Xeno Lab blueprint. I've added 2 screenshots showing the quests I have and the equipment I can build.

    But, you can use the equipment at the Science Outpost, so I made mutavisk at the outpost and planted it. We'll see if I can unlock the blueprint for the rest of the lab equipment after that. Screenshot 2015-03-08 11.26.58.png Screenshot 2015-03-08 11.24.16.png

    Yeeeah... I DID READ. Also im not a kid and you implying so is very insulting. I have been watching this mod since it first came out and frankly the old version I played HAD plants dropping seeds. Another thing is the fact that I know how this mod works and what it's mechanics are but your obsessive need to make everything harder while at the same time calling anyone who disagrees, and I qoute "Whinney kids that want everything handed to them". Sad part is I disagree with your methods and you attack me verbally? What's up with that?
    Please go back to being the kind of guy I use to know back when this mod was first getting popular who didn't lash out at everyone for voicing/having different opinions.
    The fact that the whole crash thing isn't fixed is also a blow. Fact of the matter is I COULDN'T post a crash lost cause there wasn't any being made. Want a crash log? I can get you one but it's going to cost a unicorn horn, some elf tears, a fire flower, a potato, and the ghost of christmas past so I can magically conjure one up from the abyss between worlds... I got a potato if that's any consolation :/

    I gave a honest and factually observed review to why people were voting so low and you gave me an attitude and a half.

    PS: Just to name a few games I play: Skyrim, Minecraft, Mass Effect, and Dark Souls 1 and 2... basically the existence of DARK SOULS on this little list pretty much nulls any and all comments you could possibly make about me only wanting everything handed to me.
    Ever played Dark Souls? It's the unholy and brutal opposite to the 'having things handed to you' as you so kindly put it... and you just insulted my pride as a gamer by even REMOTELY implying that, im pretty sure any other Dark Souls player will know what I mean
    ...all in all have fun with your life, you basically just made it so ill attempt to avoid you when ever possible since it's obvious any interacting with you for a period of time over 1 minute will lead to conflict... I hate conflict :/

    its VERY slight. As in 10%. You 'll barely notice :) The main thing is the ground frction making you slide a bit. The main thing is just to be "neat" and not really detrimental to your survival chances.

    False. I removed the wild plants dropping seeds fairly early in the mods expansion of plants. Therefore you played a VERY old version. It has not been this way in a long, long time.

    Also, calling you a kid was not meant as an insult. If you are 20 or younger, you are a kid to me :) I'm a geezer in comparison!

    I took your initial posts as a direct attack due to how you had worded them. I responded in kind. If that wasn't your intent, apologies. You were not very clear. However, if you re-read my post you would notice it is not attacking you, but rather defending my stance on design decisions in the mod and defending it against your points. The "whiney kids" bit was generalizing, not specifically pointing to you (nor was it even a point in the post in the first place, but a totally different post but I digress. It wasn't intended to target a specific person regardless).

    Not lashing out at all. You made claims about my decisions which you had no way to know anything about, and assumed it was all for difficulty. That is not the case. I'm going to defend my hard work. Especially when you claim to know "facts" about it that are not true or are a blunt exaggeration. I make it, I edit it, I do the art for it. I keep a huge file of release notes for each patch and what was changed, and when. I think I would know more about Frackin Universe than literally anyone else on the planet.

    Again, re-read what I posted. None of it is an attack. Telling you you are mistaken in your assumptions is not being mean or lashing out. I typed nothing but clear facts based on how I have designed the mod. Facts you can NOT refute or argue with because I am the one designing the damned thing.

    If I was lashing out at you, you'd know it for certain.


    And I was quite clear that the way starbound handles quests is the reason, NOT because of a bug in the mod itself. There is nothing I can do about the quest engine and how the game appends quests to characters. This is why it states on the main page that you should use a new character and not an existing one without backing up :). Don't blame me for the devs code. I don't work for ChuckleFish, and I can only use what they provide.

    No, you stated your opinion, most of which was purely subjective, on the mod. You find it too hard, etc. That does not immediately make your points the holy writ or fact. So you need to work a bit to unlock recipes, etc. Vanilla stuff exists for vanilla play. This is not vanilla.


    Anyhow, I wasn't aiming for conflict. It seemed that you were. Again, if that was not what you meant to do, apologies. Let's hold hands and cuddle.

    Okay, so I just got some mutavisk thread, and it still didn't lead me to the Xeno lab. Here is what I have completed: Going Ape for Science, Moving to Science Outpost, Leading to Science, Matter Assembler 1 and 2, Connected to Science, A New Scientist in Town, Up and Down, Extraction Lab, Nutrient Paste, Tissue Culture, Raw MInerals, Genetic Material, Methanol, Smelting Your Way, Burnt Smell, Smelting Lazurite, Time to Sweat, Keep on Digging, Sampling Array, DNA Sample, Mineral Sample, Wire, Silicon, Mercury, Apex of Chemistry, Circuitboard, Microscope, The Miracle of Plastic, Bio-chips: Power at Your Fingertips, Bio-chips, Liquid Protocyte, and Mutavisk.

    Current quests for FU: Mutavisk Mask and Blister Extract. It feels like there is a break in the quest chain. Something is not happening somewhere that would give me access to more lab equipment. It's now asking me for Blister Extract, which means I have to go to Science Outpost, write down everything I need from Gene Design Lab, write the components of the recipes from Xeno Lab, then go home, make what I can in the Biochem Lab, go back to the Outpost, use Xeno Lab, then use gene Design Lab. I went and talked to everyone at the Science Outpost just in case I missed something and got generic replies. :)

    @sayter, nah, i was just browsing through stuff to see what was new. looked it up in notepad++ to see what was the PGI and there ya go. I'll keep and eye out for anymore and let you know if I find any.

    Some quests require others to be completed first. Sounds like you are missing one.

    You need to finish the biochem lab chain to get to the xeno lab.

    The parallel quest lines are a nice idea and it makes me wish there was a way to display a graphical representation of them. Like you'd see a "roadmap" that consists of three parallel lines, and hovering over an unlocked point in the roadmap shows a tooltip with the quest title and description. Possibly also giving a visual hint on the roadmap about which quest you need to do before you're able to do the one you're hovering over (where applicable).

    Would such a thing be possible with a lua script? I'm just throwing this out there.

    Yes, I understand that. This is not a criticism. You created an excellent mod, and I am trying to test it and hoping to help you make it even better by offering user feedback. All coders know that an individual user is a lovely intelligent person, but collectively users are idiots and if you give them any opportunity to get confused, they will. I am trying to highlight a point in the quest progression where a potential for such confusion exists. :)

    To strengthen the validity of my feedback, here are some replies from the thread.

    Here is reply #3595 on this thread from someone else, which says:

    "I've been following the questlines(on a NEW character and universe since the major quest-changing update!), and I've gotten to a point where I have three quests: one quest tells me something about needing a Cloning Lab(I think it's because I finished one of the three quest-chains you get simultaneously that teaches you how to use some stuff in the mod and where to get things, but I haven't finished the other two, and so it let me pick up one of the next quests but has no information on how to complete it beyond "you need a cloning lab"), and the other two require Mutavisk to complete.

    Thing is, I have no way to make any seeds or special plants yet - I haven't even gotten the Xeno Research Lab yet, or any recipes for it. There are the FU crafting stations at the science outpost, but I don't have any recipes for any components needed for making the Mutavisk plant seeds."

    Here is the reply #3740, where the person is getting stuck again in this same spot:

    There are a number of people who are having issues at this point. :) That means that either a) Something wonky is happening with the quests or b) The quests are very counter-intuitive in this particular spot. Right now I only have two active quests, Armor: Mutavisk, and Blister Extract. Everything else is complete and no NPCs are lit up. I also talked to everyone at the Science Outpost, includin the diseased zombie apes.

    So, specific questions:

    What prerequisites must be completed for the creation of the Xeno lab? Do I need to make Mutavisk Mask and Blister Extract to be able to get that blueprint? If I do, then, as a player, I would suggest revising the quest chain to avoid having the appearance of the quest chain being broken. Right now the quest chain goes like this:

    Make matter assembler -----> Learn to Use it,
    Make Extraction Lab ----> Learn to use it,
    Make Bio-chem Lab-----> Learn to use it,
    Bioengineer specific plants using Xeno lab and Gene Design Lab, neither of which we can build.

    The steps of Build Xeno Lab ----> Learn to Use it and Make Gene Design Lab ----> Learn to use it are not there for me, so there appears to be a logical gap.

    Again, not a criticism, just food for thought. :)

    Yep. And I've repeatedly said the new quests are a work-in-progress. I'm aware of some of the pitfalls. But you can currently complete the entire line, it just takes some doing. So it isn't "broken" so much as "tends to be unclear at times"

    I'll spend a little time touching up that part of it since it seems to be the sole problem area at present. It's not too clear in a few spots and that can be fixed up with a little attention.

    However, there isn't a logic gap (per se). You need only complete the quests in the biochem lab. So, biochem lab, then water/oil/sulfur, then amino acids, then fertilizer, then pesticide, then peptide chain, then synth protein. Then you're done biochem and it pushes the xeno into your possessions. Only the first biochem quest has prerequisites, which may change soon.

    That's because there are no other quests for the cloning lab yet. We're revamping that station from scratch. It currently does nothing, basically.


    Consult the very first thing written on the mods overview page. When you do as it requests, I can help you.

    It seems to me like Frakin' Universe is not compatible with the Bees mod. Try removing Bees and starting a new character and do a universe wipe too.

    That or with madtulips mod. The only errors I see are for madtulips. So it's either compatibility or an error in the ship building mod. It's not surprising that this might be the case, since Tulips thing screws with quest/progression in order to make the ship stuff work. It could inherently screw with FFs outpost, etc without even meaning to. I can't say for sure, mind you.

    It's probably something minor that can be addressed by someone doing a proper .patch file. Compatibility isn't an issue like it used to be, really.

    So i did a universe wipe, and started a new character with only frackin' enabled. should i get the prompt right away after rebooting the ship?

    Make sure you post your log in MadTulip's mod discussion thread because you get three "no such item" errors(that I noticed) that relate directly to his mod.
