I feel like I must be overlooking something silly or tripping myself up because I'm used to old progression, but I think I'll bring it up here just in case...

I've been following the questlines(on a NEW character and universe since the major quest-changing update!), and I've gotten to a point where I have three quests: one quest tells me something about needing a Cloning Lab(I think it's because I finished one of the three quest-chains you get simultaneously that teaches you how to use some stuff in the mod and where to get things, but I haven't finished the other two, and so it let me pick up one of the next quests but has no information on how to complete it beyond "you need a cloning lab"), and the other two require Mutavisk to complete.

Thing is, I have no way to make any seeds or special plants yet - I haven't even gotten the Xeno Research Lab yet, or any recipes for it. There are the FU crafting stations at the science outpost, but I don't have any recipes for any components needed for making the Mutavisk plant seeds.

I'm using the version released last night as of this morning, so I should be up to date, I think.

Am I supposed to find wild Mutavisk somewhere? I know I've done that in previous versions, found it in the wild I mean. If that's the case it seems mighty user-unfriendly since that is not mentioned in any of the quests.

Apologies if I'm missing something obvious.

The cloning lab is a one-step quest for now as it is not really implemented. If you're not able to do the other quest, why don't you check the scientific outpost to see if someone has a new quest for you? :)

    sayter The Waste of Time

If you finish the other chains, it will open up quests in the current chain. They have prerequisites. It's a bit counter-intuitive still, and some of the NPCs need to be repeatedly talked to in a row. These are things we will iron out in time (especially the first NPC, who you talk to , give the glass, then have to talk to two more times. Would make more sense to have a single step afterwards.

They work, though :) I did 4 play-throughs of the quests to iron out the "not accepting" bits from a quest or two last night.

TL;DR : yea, we'll be working on making things read better. Inny isn't a native english speaker, and I've done only a few cursory edits to the text to make it read better. More to come. Including more quests.[DOUBLEPOST=1425416012][/DOUBLEPOST]

Yea, I am a big fan of the elder stone, especially after i added glow in RC0.70. I'd love to get some furniture in there for it. Elder armor is planned already, I'm mostly working out how it will be unlocked, etc at the moment before I start adding lots of elder gear.

Would you like some help making things read better? I'm a bit of a grammar nazi and I write a lot of fiction for myself in my spare time (200 pages at a time before I get bored and wander off and never pick it up again)

Elder gear sounds eldritch, like you'd need to use necromancy or "dark" plants or blood from blood planets and such. Maybe loot an avian village for the gravestones as a material component?

Actually, looking into your assets, the stuff i meant is declared as protorock, but the .material short description calls it "Elder stone". Anyway, it's the one with the radiant light.

Hmm, well I did look at the science outpost when I couldn't figure out what to do next - maybe I missed someone? I'll look again and see if that's the case. I'm pretty sure I didn't see any question marks or exclamation points hovering around, though. Hmm.

    Well, since you're asking...
I'd like more detailed planet descriptions. If I didn't read the update notes (and it can't be assumed that all players will) I wouldn't even be aware of the existence of Trianglite, Prisilite, and Irradium. I did find Trianglite and Irradium, but I never did find any Prisilite. Not sure what the problem is, but I think it may be a simple as pale white ore against a snowy backdrop being awfully hard to see, or not looking on the right planet type because the planet descriptions don't say "Hey stupid! Prisilite is here!" One should never underestimate my ability to miss the blindingly obvious.

It was the Cell Material/Biospore/Biosample quest that was broken, right? Could I finish that quest by modding in an item called "cellmaterial" so I can get that quest completed and out of my active quests?

And a general question...how do I unlock the recipe for/make the hydroponics blocks?

  8. Aegis J Hyena

    Aegis J Hyena Existential Complex

What I want to see is a creature scanner from the map screen that shows the appearance of critters found on the surface. Upgradable so it can then discern hostiles from passives, what boss monsters there might be, any villages/structures, etc etc.

  9. Febilian

    Febilian Cosmic Narwhal

Okay, I looked around the Science Outpost more, and there is literally no one I can find who has a quest to accept or turn in.

The quests I currently have are "The Clone Wars", which I can't seem to turn in anywhere, "Armor: Mutavisk", which wants me to make a Mutavisk helm, and "Mutavisk Thread", which wants me to make, well, Mutavisk thread.

I don't have Mutavisk or any way to create it.

I'm not sure what to do. :s

EDIT: Wait. Is Mutavisk silk different from normal silk or no? I think I might have gotten some normal Silk as a quest reward a while back, but I didn't know what to do with it so like the idiot I was, I turned it into Advanced Plastic.

Was I supposed to use that for this Mutavisk stuff?

    Looking for new ideas eh?

Well, you should consider implementing a teleporter that turns you into a goose. I saw it in an anime once, so you should really consider it. Because I love anime. And Japan. And sensei. Please hire me. I mean I know you don't pay, but you could start.

I'd actually love to see some more stuff to do with liquids. Don't get me wrong, they're already plenty useful, but I feel like there's a lot of sciencey stuff you could do with liquid protocyte and bio-ooze. Maybe not blood. Well, hopefully not blood. That would just not be ethical. But to be less vague, even simple stuff like "neon" style lighting with liquid protocyte or some such would be neat. Unless you consider that furniture. I mean, I don't. Do you sit on a light? Barbaric.

Join the club. I can't nail down a finished piece either. Either you get The Block, or you lose interest or you hate it lol. As for "eldritch" yes, though its more Lovecraft based than anything else.

    ie:

    and

    [IMG] [IMG]

    just saying.

what i mean is, some of the later quests require prerequisites to be met first. IE: just because you get the 5th biochem quest doesnt mean it loads yet... you might need to build Thing X first :) thus, you need to do quests from several lines to get everything working :)[DOUBLEPOST=1425426118][/DOUBLEPOST]
Here's a hint: make some mutavisk thread. Lol.[DOUBLEPOST=1425426244][/DOUBLEPOST]

plant descriptions are coming. As for the ore types: too bad. Part of the point is in exploring and finding them. There are no hand-outs to make things easy and it's intentional . The ore generators are pretty random, and have nothing to do with the mod. They are set to about the same probability of every other ore in the game. It's just luck of the draw.

FYI: Tranglite is yellow trangles. Moonstone are moon-shaped, and prisilite are multicolored and look like shiny rainbow crystal

as for the hydroponics blocks... doh! i forgot the recipe inclusion i think. I'll add that to the list of things to do.

edit: yep, forgot the recipe. derp! Thanks, man!

Um, that's been my problem from the start. I don't HAVE anything to make Mutavisk Thread with. I have no Mutavisk Silk. If I did, I wouldn't be here. :I

And I did answer my own question as far as the silk goes: nope, it's not the same thing as the base silk. I tried making the thread with the normal silk I got from an earlier quest in the array with the DNA sample and mineral samples, and it didn't do squat.

I've sent a note to sayter about this, @Febilian : you're right, there's a logic bug here and it should be fixed. Come back to the outpost after the next update and the next quest should unlock this time. :)

Okay, thank you, I was getting really frustrated there! I thought I was going nuts or something.

no worries. It happens. It still CAN unlock, but it's immeasurably harder the way the logic is right now.

I'll toss in an update this evening, along with a couple other minor things. As usual, it will probably hit at midnight EST, give or take.

I feel you may misunderstand my problem. The problem is that, in game, without following the update notes (Which not every player can be expected to follow. Sorry, that's just the world for you) there is zero indication of the very existence of these materials.

Now, you COULD mine every single planet down the core, but why would you if you don't know what you're looking for? Especially because there are some planet types (crystal moons, sulfuric) that do say what the signature ore there is. When some planets tell you what's there to find and others don't...well. It isn't the player's fault at that point that they didn't turn it upside down looking for that hidden ore.

It is, of course, your mod though. I'm simply providing the prospective of one regular guy.

If there is Lovecraft, there must also be ZALGO!

And most ores appear on more than one planet type. The job of the player is to play. I don't need to give away everything. Also, trianglium, moonstone and prisilite are all vanilla ores not yet implemented. You'll have them in-game eventually regardless.

Not even chucklefish tells you what biomes have which ores, or where to find every single item. The same applies here :) Except, generally speaking, in Frackin Universe every single biome serves a purpose in some way. I don't just add biomes to add biomes.

    Penumbra world? Penumbrite.
    Protoworld? Protocite
    Sulphuric? Cinnabar
    Magma? see above
Metallic Moon? lots of metals. And densinium sometimes.
Crystal Moons? Prisilite, silicon, lunari...etc etc

The point is to explore. You won't know what a biome has until you do so. And that's the whole point. Because as-is, the starbound vanilla experience doesn't really encourage said exploration at all.
