Is there a way to disable rain? I'm getting lag when it's raining and that makes me more likely to be killed, so, I wish there was some way to disable rain, or improve the performance when it's raining. Thanks to whoever answers :)

Got the same problem. It's not much but it's noticeable a bit more laggy. I'm sure it'll get fixed or something in the future.

Same thing here, can't find a fix.

Are you playing on a laptop?

Weird as it is, I have a pretty decent desktop computer and I still notice a bit of lag when raining. Not much.

Well the fps drop from rain doesn't happen to me anymore :) Seemed to have fixed itself I guess.

I'm having huge FPS drop when it's raining.(playing on a netbook with integrated graphics card btw) If someone with the right skill set could give some instructions on how to tinker with configs to disable the rain altogether I would be very grateful.

go to your starbound folder /assets/weather/rain.weather

you can set all the rain settings there. (ie such as density to 0, timetolive to 0, etc) isn't difficult to figure out.

Yeah scrubs, why don't you noobs get a real computer to run this graphically extensive 2D platformer.

alienware is crapware tbh, most of their comps are extroadinarily overpriced for no reason, but anyways~ just edit that file and you wont have a problem with the rain :)

    @Zulgaines, just 'cause it's a 2d platformer doesn't mean it can't be system intensive

    buuuuuuut *cough*getabettercomp*cough* just 'cause ;)

Regardless if being overpriced it has the power to play all more graphically intense games on high settings.
How much i spent on it is not an issue, obviously i have the money to build my own personalized Alienware that can run modern games and i STILL have trouble in the rain.

Also your still being a *cough* DB *cough*.

The game is fairly unoptimized as stated by the developers. The rain and heavy NPC areas are examples of this.

I believe rain still drops FPS even underground, which is a good example of how they still need to improve the method in which it's rendered. This isn't supposed to be a demanding game hardware wise and it will defiantly improve from where it's at now.

I totally understand that but white-knighting when people are being rude is a weakness of mine.

I just have to prey the optimization gets better. I still love it! When things settle and it is fully released and still have problems ill crack into the files and tweak it more to be playable.

Lower your resolution too if that's possible for you, it will improve performance.

  18. The game is heavily unoptimized right now, I get fps drops when entering villages with lots of npcs, and sometimes when it rains.

I'm positive once they start optimizing we will not be experiencing fps drops anymore. A feature I would like though is a check box in the options menu to turn weather effects on or off. whether the devs put it in or someone mods it in, I'm sure it will happen.

I can play Torchlight 2 on all high settings with the screen full of mobs and not get fps drops, yet in Starbound rain and villages drop my fps, it's purely unoptimized and it will go away eventually.

Not everyone is rich enough to get one of the best PCs. Care to get me one?
