on my world i found the matter blocks i press E on the machine in the background and then it will kill you and the block exploded out of it

 

Those are only used for the doomguy helmet right now, right ?

matter blocks are used for the makeshift gear set as well. need 24 matter blocks for the set. located under silver armor on the anvil

I also found 1 of those labs on a lvl 1 planet, got 13 matter blocks and then i also found 5 diamond ore in a chest in the end of the dungeon
The lab is 1-2 minutes to the left

I have not seen this matter block. Unless the icon is literally a block of non-descript material, the reference is a big stretch.
