Starbound needs foreground trees added to the game... Basically, these trees or shrubs/bushes can be used for wood... Just like everyone is guessing the normal trees are used for However, you can walk behind these trees/shrubs/bushes... it would give depth and it would allow you to build a home in the woods OR hopefully plant bushes/shrubs/trees later in front of your home It doesn't take longer to cut down trees to make your home because you can build home behind them... plus an option of making the foreground trees slightly clear or opaque needs to be added. The best way would be If the trees in front of the home turned clearer when you entered the home then there would be no hassle at all. Foreground trees would allow new enemies that hide behind trees ready to pounce (A.I. advancement if they used the foreground tree to hide as you got closer when they initially spawned) Plus, you could find a completely overgrown or hidden something (chests, player made something or other) or just have pretty plants growing at your space station... It would add depth to walking threw the woods. Example: Interaction possibilities (hide behind a bush to trade items) as well as additional hideouts along with hidden traps or dangers (behind these trees) and of coarse very beautiful landscapes. My idea is a switch and active stone blocks (if they still are available)... when you hit the hidden switch (which I hope will be behind the bush) you fall into basically anything... I like the idea of foreground bushes/shrubs/trees a lot. FEEDBACK REQUESTED
I think it is a good idea, with two problems: One, is that you would need a way to Re-introduce trees into the foreground layer once you've removed them. Two, is making foreground tree-translucency look good without breaking immersion.
Although it may be a good idea, unfortunately it was announced a while ago that the devs did not want a 'foreground' layer. I believe if it was just bushes/shrubs a simple seed should do the trick... They are just in-front if the player after all. Yeah I read that... I do like the "Suggestion" though I would hope for it as a surprise OR even something that can be planted later in the game once you acquire whatever that's needed... seeds for example... They don't even really need to be randomly generated... It would make a run threw the woods very realistic & would open very many fun possibilities just having them around
You still need a method to determine whether the player wanted to plant the trees in the foreground or background or middle-ground or whatever.
