I've still got most of my vacation time saved up for the year. Seeing as I probably won't be able to use all of it around the holidays I'll have a few days to spare for release day.

I'm a student with field camp studies strewn about haphazardly over the upcoming months, so I can't say I'm entirely sure. Its sad though, because I'm actually considering it.

    My professors would be ashamed...

That's one of the reasons why my wife and I have decided (we're not saying we'll never change our minds, though) that we aren't having kids. We've got too little time already to do what we want, throwing kids in the mix is only going to take more time away from us. Besides, I've got way too much expensive stuff to secure if a toddler ever stops by.

It's times like these, that I enjoy working in a restaurant and being a cook. Especially in a place where others can cover my shift. But to be honest, it would totally depend on how the bank account looked near time of beta/release. IfI was low on cash, or behind on a bill or had bills coming up? No sadly I'd QQ a bit, but I'd ensure finances were settled first. That has to come first, if everything was ok? Hell yes I'd call in, I wouldn't even have to lie eithier. I've given the excuse of. "I feel like crap and wanna watch TV all day, do I have to come in." "Dude just get someone to cover and I don't care" so you call the other cooks, promise them you'll cover a shift for them when they need it (Works wonders cause most people hate working Saturday and Sunday mornings.) and voila, you have a day off. :)

As much as I would like to do so I only have thirteen days of leave and I think I'd be much happier using them when I actually needed to leave base for something.

Release? Probably not... beta? Possibly. Depending on the day of the week.

If it's a "this game becomes downloadable at midnight on X date" kind of thing, then yes I'll take that day off. If it's not gonna be available til sometime later in the day, then I'll likely work on release day and take the following day off instead.

Either way, there will definitely at least be one full day off work planned. Too many hours needed for playing and video-making to consider muddying up the schedule with that pesky work thing.

I will probably play after work. I tend to get a lot of emergency "We need this change to the plans right now! our work crew is literally just standing around until you get us a detail!"

Although if it comes out during the winter, I will have plenty of time to play anyway, as that is the construction slow season.

Also, unlike previous games, I want to take a relaxed pace to Starbound. It seem to me that gaming in a hurry is detrimental to the feel of the game. But then again I usually game with systematic efficiency.

  11. I work full time and and will most definitely be taking a couple of days off to play the Beta.

Here's a tip on playing hooky, always take more than 1 day off, it's quite obvious you're faking it when you say your sick and the next day you show up fresh as a daisy. It's much more believable when you take a couple of days off.

I'm not taking responsibility if you take my advice and get in trouble, take what I say with a grain of salt lol.

p.s. It should be mentioned that I get 1 month off a year sick leave with pay, so I can get away with it & get paid.

No. There are priorities in life, and as much as I like the idea of taking a day off just to do something I like, i'd rather not make it a habit.

I won't. I have done this in the past with other games, and I end up burning myself out too quickly. I'd rather slowly savor that first experience over several days.

I have lots of free time at the moment. I'm a full time student but I'm the top of my class without much trouble, for now. I can generally cut four to six days a semester and not even blink. Not that I do, because I end up helping everyone else get it.

Anyway, if I had a job which provided time off, I'd probably do it. My last job had two weeks of vacation a year, at christmas and independence day. Three three-day weekends, and that was it. Had a week of paid sick time we could use or save for a year-end bonus until the new owner cancelled the paid vacation and sick time (he also neglected to report our wages and I reported him for tax fraud). I find it hard to believe in flexible employers - never seen such a creature.

As it is, my wife will probably camp with me, buy a couple pizzas, and Starbound for as long as we feel like it. :)

    [EDIT] PS:
If you see time with children in this light, you certainly should think about not making any. :p

You don't get vacations in my line of work :D You enjoy what time you have off whenever it comes around xD Although I am secretly hoping Starbound falls just nicely for one of those times. :ninja: Although... most of THAT free time gets used finishing up stuff for my Degree.. >.> :(
