For the Love of god, fix digging

Nope, I was just trying to say that people need to quote stuff from somewhere if they are going to shove it into somebody's face like that guy did (with the caps and all), because if I was a newcomer I would not take him seriously at all.

 

Exploration and the menial labor that is mining are two very different things in my world. Either way though, it's like you don't play mods like Tekkit for Minecraft, or simply don't enjoy that kind of thing. For example, setting up power grids or building machines to take care of menial labor for you is actually fun, well, for some people.

And it is a sci-fi game, we've got advanced space ships and get better tech every tier. At some point it simply makes sense to let machines work for you, while you can focus on other things instead. It's also a way to give incentives for building bases, which is currently somewhat lacking. Building mining facilities sounds great in my head, at least.

 

Beret, to me his tone seemed hostile, kind of against the game/developer, which a lot of people identify with and will defend. And to both of you... I never said he was right to be hostile, it's just a standard human reaction, hostility is met with hostility usually.

 

I understand completely, though even if the tone might seem hostile at first it (especially considering that it is hard to see real human emotions through text) doesn't necessarily mean that it was the intention.

 

I agree. And based on the rest of his post, I don't think it was, just perhaps an unfortunate choice of words.

 

They should just add a "win" button to the UI - might work for the current generation of gamers who seem to not actually want to PLAY the games the acquire.

 

You have a point, but I made the connection between mining and exploration since, at least for me, mining is a secondary thing I do when I'm exploring the underground. So if some form of mining machine is implemented, it needs to be done so with great care so not to collaterally deprive the player of meaningful experiences. Personally, I'd rather push for more advanced manual tools than automation, if only to minimize the amount of time mining takes when otherwise exploring.

I've played Minecraft but not Tekkit, so I wouldn't know, but there's a difference between basic automation, like an automated crop harvester might be, and some cheesy mining machine that periodically provides rare materials which are normally tough to find.

 

Thanks for all the info everyone, i guess my biggest issue was the amount of time it takes to mine up cobblestone seemed a little off, I understand there's updates coming in like crazy, so I'll hold in there and see what happens next lol

 

Tekkit has a few mods in it, like Buildcraft and IndustrialCraft, that automate some things. In particular, I believe Buildcraft lets you construct a quarry, which mines a place continually until it reaches bedrock. It's not easy to build, though, and it's even harder to maintain (gotta power it with one of the huge variety of options the mods contained within offer - ranging from redstone and coal to fusion power). It's pretty easy to get people to continue adventuring so that they maintain the things they use to allegedly make life easier.

 

You mean un-refined stone, not cobblestone.

 

I actually think.. Digging is too god damn fast
