I don't know about anyone else, but I am thinking it rather odd that the platinum pickaxe and diamond drills dont knock away almost every block instantly, it shouldnt take me over 3 seconds to dig away a stone block with a platinum pickaxe. It's making digging out plots to builda NIGHTMARE x.x

Oh I don't know maybe because THERE'S HIGHER TIER STUFF PLANNED?

Well excuse me for being new and not instantly knowing what was "planned". Thanks for the hospitality .

Currently, once you get to a certain tier you can construct drills, the diamond drill still only mines a 3x 3 but it does so very quickly.

Higher tiers or not, cobblestone should be the second softest thing (third if you want to count fine-sand as softer). 4 seconds *measured* with Diamond pickaxe is ridiculous. It should be one at most, even at that tier, since cobble is bloody everywhere, like dirt or sand.

Not entirely your mistake, as I'm not so sure where that guy above got that information from, unless he can quote it from somewhere....

Other than that, the game is in heavy development so you can expect tons of things to change or to be added for the coming months, such as faster digging tools :D

In his defense, you didn't start out very hospitable yourself, you came across hostile to start. Also, there is a higher level pickaxe than Platinum (Diamond), just in-case you didn't know. Also, I think it's fine how it is, even if this is the highest it goes - the Diamond Drill blasts away most things quickly, and takes but a few seconds to harvest high-tier ores even from Magmarock and Obsidian. You don't need instant results, it's okay to work for something (even if just a little...)

    It seems logical;

On day 1, we only had picks - a lot of people were comaplining it was dumb that we were stuck using picks in a sci-fi setting. But then in the last patch, they fleshed out tier 4, and we gained drills. People are still complaining drills arn't fast enough but there's 6 more tiers to flesh out, the odds off us NOT getting some kind've high-tech mining device that is even faster in higher tech levels seems very low.

I am sorry, but how exactly was OP acting hostile? I never felt threatened by his post so I don't quite understand.

Not nearly as hostile as the reply. People need to keep control of their tempers and provide a modicum of hospitality if we are to maintain a healthy community.

And, generally speaking, if someone starts off in a dickish manner, it's entirely reasonable to try and not be a dick yourself in return. A "he started it" mentality is incredibly childish and likely counter-productive to a discussion and the community as a whole.

There are now drills, and in the game files there is an unimplemented mining laser, which I can't wait to try out.

  12. Hostility withstanding, I don't see why people are up in arms about mining speeds, yes its slow at first, but my diamond drill goes through things so quickly its absurd.

They have talked repeatedly about 10 tiers... I'm pretty sure it's on the front page. I mean, they haven't specially mentioned new mining implements, but there being more tiers is no big secret.

Yeah this is what I was thinking, it will probably come because of the community's need for it.

    Sounds good :D

I did not state that there weren't 10 tiers anywhere.

I'm fine with the speed the way it is, as long as later tiers and better tech makes it faster, not to mention more convenient. I hope one tier or another eventually just lets me build some huge, evil monstrosity of a machine that sucks a planet dry for me. Not so cheesy as long as the cost of what we make at that point warrants it, but oh so satisfying.

Did you not respond to this:
    With this?
Because that seems like saying that the issue of higher tier items being planned is not verifiable.

At Tier 10 you can make a robot that systematically mines every square of a planet.

Satisfying, building a machine that plays a significant portion of the exploration and resource gathering portion of the game for you? Really?
