well, back when Tiy posted a unicorn on his twitter people weren't sure if it was a teaser or a joke. We can't know for sure untill the game launches ; )

why be creative when we can put spongebob and "input random anime char here" into the game?

 

Well, references are usually very popular, and many games have them. If they aren't used too much, they can be fun.

 

Considering how many of today's games have hat-tips to other games in them, I think his stance is a bit over-the-top. It's very difficult to create something 100% original, least of all because someone, somewhere, will ALWAYS say 'omg you ripped (tenuously linked concept) from blah!'.

In any case, even though it's unlikely this will actually be in the game, you've already seen that there are Mechs in Starbound - are you calling unoriginality there? What about the penguins? There are exploding penguins in Little Big Adventure. Oh my gosh, there are reptilian mobs in Starbound! They totally ripped that from Gex.

 

That is all true, but those aren't completely copied. Taking some overused concept is one thing, this would be nearly copying something from somewhere. i believe there's a difference there. This is simply an obvious reference (for those who know about MLP), which, as I said, can be fun =)

 

This looks very great! ( I'm not a Brony) But if this is implemented Bronies will have a game for them! I really think that this is really cool! If it isn't implemented then-uhh-errm-I guess that it's not implemented?

Well, in that case all I can do is ask you to understand that a lot of people do like them and I hope you won't be bothered too much by a few items and mobs you don't need and don't like. Videogame making is most oftenly about satisfying as many people as possible, and sometime you need to compromise.
