You are a BETA tester.

Tiy does not test the BETA before it goes live.

BETA Testers (You and I) test it.

If numbers are completely WRONG, we suck it up and report it, we do not flame the forums with some sense of entitlement that we were wronged and deserve better, that "Tiy and Friends™" should have tested it before hand. Or the "How DARE they release such unbalanced content to us, why did they not TEST it first."

Because... we're the testers, here are the jacked up unbalanced numbers, get a pen write it down and report it.

This is what we agreed to when we downloaded and played the game in phase 1 of beta.

 

This should go without saying. But please, make more threads complaining about those who complain. It really helps.

 

Yes. Everyone knows it's a beta! We all know everything is going to change! Part of a beta is to provide feedback. Feedback is being provided. Then people make threads telling people they're being stupid for providing feedback. We know.

 

While I agree with you, you also have to understand that people have paid actual money towards Starbound so you can see where their anger comes from. I'm not saying it's justified, but still. I think everyone needs to be a bit more patient overall and just accept the fact that not everything is going to be 100% perfect. Really my only main complaint is that the game needs to be optimised a bit better or something, as it lags a bit TOO much. But still, it's a beta so hopefully that's fixed.

 

Just try to be calm. There are some trolls -- but a lot of people don't really understand how BETAs work, or what it means to have bought into an early access game.

Perhaps someone should make a thread telling other people to stop complaining about people complaining. That will surely help, right?

 

Can't they make an announcement or sticky thread that gives people a very clear and laid out idea of what beta testers actually do?

Right now i get the sense that people aren't reporting the actual glitches and bugs, rather their own personal dislike for the very roughly implemented mechanics.

 

I think that the problem is that most people cant take the effort to actually read anything from the devs and actually attempt to understand it. We are left with those who expected a full game and are too... um "special" to try and understand what is going on.

They then post multiple threads that are the exact same thing because instead of communicating together as a community, they would rather just hear themselves rant.

We just have to be sure to post enough positive and constructive posts to counter all this unconsciously incompetent posting.

Are you familiar with a certain concept about human thinking / arguing, whose name I've forgotten? Anyway, sometimes people discover or create concepts or statements that automatically win arguments. "This is a beta" seems like one, to me. It's a meaningless (In that it imparts no new knowledge) phrase that seems to win arguments almost magically. This is a beta, therefore, any reservation you have about the game is pretty much invalid, 'cause ya gotta consider after all, it's a beta.

I suppose 'automatic argument-win phrase' is descriptive if a bit verbose. Just a tangential note I wanted to make. And just to spite you, Tiy did test it before it went out. Uploading the new version to Steam takes quite a while, so hotfixes are impractical. Of course he tested it you dunce. And, unlike certain users, I can cite my reference - the video he was streaming earlier.

You do have to note that an awful lot of people simply couldn't resist a chance to play the game and as a result are giving feedback that should normally come after the actual release.

I know it's hard to resist treating yourself to a playthrough, but that's not the point of the beta.
Test things, test durability, glitching, deleting, pixels disappearing...anything...just test though, don't play.

The one post on the main site was fair, but a copy that sits in a very visible spot on the forum is much more necessary.

 

Maybe unless it's written in large glowing red letters "THESE ARE THE TERMS OF THE BETA" for the duration of the beta and have 2 options under it:
Agree-launches game, disagree-closes launcher.

 

Of course, because complaining about people that are complaining will make things better and help the devs...

I think the main problem I have at the moment with this current patch is not that the numbers are off. I expect mistakes and adjustment to be made in a beta. That's the point. However, it is the magnitude of how screwed up these numbers are that kind of makes me think the devs aren't putting very much effort into certain things. It took me less then 10 minutes to realize that these numbers are egregiously borked. My starter sword had 10 dps, doing around 5 damage a hit to the basic daytime monsters. They took about 5 hits to kill. So, naturally, I go to craft an upgrade but I've got very little iron so I make a 1 handed short sword. That does /75/ dps. I now one shot everything on the whole planet.

Less than ten minutes to discover this problem. All I'm saying.

 

We're not beta testers. We are not getting paid and it's not our job or obligation to report anything.

Just thought I'd clear that up for you.
