Oh, i didnt see that part when looking at the game
but still, best example of a crappy pre-release game
make sure Starbound is the best it can be before releasing :)
then add the new content later

yeah, and even if it waits till done it wont be long now, but if they are behind, at least release it before Christmas because the money will help them get through, and i mean seriously! even with what they have now it is still a ton, they only release a little bit but if you dig you cant help but wonder what else they can possible fit in!

Tiy is one of the original creators of Terraria that sold millions of copies. I don't think they will have too big of an issue with money.

That's not how companies work. You can be the second employee of a multibillion dollar corp and still earn your 20k a year.

As an indie game developer, I can safely say that setting a release date is very difficult and normally a bad idea.

Developers normally have no idea when a game is ready for release, even during the next to final stages. The developers can suddenly realize that the game isn't that good and start over, or decide to spend more time fleshing out the game.

Minecraft is not a good example of what you are explaining, more like an example of the horrors of release dates. The full release of Minecraft ended up being an incomplete mess, and to this day it feels incomplete and unpolished. Release dates do no more than cause what could be great games to come out as horrible, unfinished projects.

A game needs to be judged by the developers on when it should be released when the project is near completion. Yes, the core engine appears to be done, but how much are they really hiding from us?

its not that he wasn't the top it's that it is expensive and hard to make a game, they take way longer than people realize and you still have everyday expense(and a big staff
I'm not sure about this but i think he and someone else owned re-digit together or he shared the highest position anyways

I don't see how they owned re-digit because that's one of the developers. xD

I think I have the answer to that last question: A whole bunch. Despite having watched three streamings, I could easily say that we have only had the chance to experience a little part of what the game actually is. As you pointed out, it's never too late for a developer to implement, improve or take out mechanics. Also, content, one doesn't know what he wants in or out until a few moments before the game's completion and even then, it's like "Hmmm, we could have added this and that instead of this thing here...".

To sum up, if you guys ever decide to develop a game, you'll realize how useless release dates are. My RPG Tsukuru project took 2 years to be completed instead of the 3-4 months that I had anticipated, so you see :).

Tiyuri was the spriter working on Terraria (made by Re-Logic, a company created by Redigit)
Of course I don't know any details of their contracts but I doubt that Tiy got filthy rich with his work.

You don't seem to understand. I never said "all second employees of multi-billion/million dollar corporations earn tons of money", I said Tiy has probably gotten a fairly good amount of money out of the game. Only referring to Tiy and no one else in that post. It is reasonable to assume that he has a fair amount of money from that game or other sources, especially considering he doesn't except any donations for Starbound, which implies that he has the money to handle it himself already. Also, I would also like some examples of multi-billion/million dollar companies where the second in command person makes below $40k yearly, since it would be interesting if that ever even happens.

I'm as eager for the release of Starbound as the next person. That being said, though, I'd prefer that the devs take their time and release a finished game with plenty of content and all of the kinks worked out rather than speed the release date just for the sake of impatient people like me.

Sorry if it was unclear (english is not my first language as you can tell) but I wasn't talking about the second in command but rather second employee they ever hired (be it a janitor or something like that). And as I already stated above, I have no idea of how the contract situation between redigit and Tiy was (if he got bonuses and stuff) but I doubt that he's a millionaire.

For a start, the title seems less like a suggestion and more like a demand... Respect Chucklefish's right to do whatever they damn please with starbound. We're all excited for a release, but this is when that excitement turns bad. Just go play some other games until it comes out, they still plan to do AT LEAST a year of dedicated updates and then they're going to make a side-team after that year, So i think telling them.. sorry, "suggesting" that they focus on a release date and put all the other stuff in updates is moot, just wait until the game is done.

I can GUARANTEE that if they released now you'd get people complaining about the lack of content, unpolished feel or incomplete parts of the game, and a large percentage of those will be the people who post topics like this, demanding the release. They're just impatient and want everything NOW. Well, you can't have it now, just wait.
