I've no fear of it not being released at all. That's unrealistic at best. I'm just running dry of my patience, something I never expected to have happen. I've been so excited for this game since learning details about how it even works that I'm literally running myself ragged caring about it.

So at this point, I'm weighing the importance of it. Will I still be interested enough to purchase when it's ready or will I be too frayed and cynical from the anxiety the potentially egregious wait has caused me? Ironically, only time will tell. But for now, All I can do is bow out of the waiting game and wait for the reviews to surface because it's getting to be too much for me either way.

I, like many others I am sure, remember a time when the development of a game was almost completely shrouded in mystery. One day it was announced, maybe once or twice they might release a screenshot or two, and then you knew the release date. Communities like these for games did not exist to the extent that they do now, if a game had them at all.

Times change, and game development has changed immensely in many ways. Unfortunately it also leads many people into this situation. It was almost better not to know what was going on because you really could not be disappointed.

Sonic 2006 was a good example of too early of a release, except it couldnt have been updated as it was on the gamecube

Sonic 2006 was only released for 360 and PS3, unless you're thinking of another Sonic game?

I am afraid my excitement for the game has already died after several months and my expectations plumetted as I have fallen into a depressed mood. I have difficulty waiting for things that take months to years to happen. This could be a good thing though, this means that I don't have enormously high expectations that could be crushed when the game comes out and it will probably be more fun. I only really come on the forums when I am bored now, not because I am excited about the game.

When it'll come out, I'll get it, no matter when. But really, waiting for it now is just annoying and I'm excited by new infos much less then used to be. I hope it'll come out before I decide to buy it only with 75% discount.

All video games take years to happen. It's just that you never really had much insight in to the development process until recently.

Ah, ye olden days when technology was young. Technology today has certainly spoiled us, hasn't it? I remember when I first found out about the Yuri's Revenge expansion for Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2. I was completely flabbergasted when I saw the box being showcased in front of an EB Games store window. My dad scolded me for my outburst but I was completely ecstatic. Red Alert 2 came out almost more or less a year when that day happened.

And bear in mind, this wasn't a time where information was easily searched and uncovered. I think a lot of people around the turn of the millennium into 2000 still had either 56k modems or DSL, and Google didn't exist at the time -- at least I don't recall that it did. There was only AOL and AskJeeves (wutz dat (lol)?). But today? Jeez, talk about information overload. The power to acquire information has never been easier. It was a pleasant surprise that I even stumbled upon the box art, because I had no clue that Red Alert 2 had an expansion.

But anyways, I woke up around 30 minutes ago so pardon the strange rant. What I mean to say is, yeah, it does take a long time for video games to happen. Things have really changed since that that day with me and Yuri's Revenge, with all these new ideas and ways to develop things coming up and about. Sure, bigger companies can easily shell out games year after year, but such companies may have spoiled a lot of us from realizing just how difficult it is to make, well, anything. See NaNoWriMo: I attended it this year but only made my way to the half-point, 25,000 words. Passing the victory ribbon requires a person to write 50,000 words or more. Since information is easily searchable nowadays, it shouldn't be a surprise that, once a person uncovers all the information he or she wants, that said person would burn out from being unable to find any further info.

I think I took another tangent. ANYWAYS, for everyone burning out or losing hope or whatever, take heart. At least you're seeing, right on this big ol' Internets, how hard it is for even a group of people to make such a wonderful game like Starbound. Your patience will be tried more than ever considering our technology today. At least you can be aware of a thing's development, rather than stumbling across something like I did with Yuri's Revenge. I hope readers will take my words sincerely because I feel like I went with the "DAMN KIDS TODAY" sort of approach, ahaha. I didn't mean any offense to anyone, just hope that people will understand how starved for information people were back in the day.

I already knew that it takes a long time for a video game to be created, I have done research and I plan to major in programming. The thing is, this is the only video game that I have heard about only a few months after the idea was made and all the while they put out new information occasionally. Yes I heard of Guild Wars 2 years ago and I have heard of other games a year or so before their release, but none of them that I know of put out a tiny bit of info on the game at a time with tantalizing promises. This is why I have difficulty waiting and what killed it for me. Enough information has been put out that I wanted more information, but not enough information has been put out to satisfy the hype. So, in effect, they essentially put out both too much and too little information. I prefer when game developers put out next to no information, that way they don't torture you while you wait.

I don't care when the game is released, I am just thankful there will eventually, in some time, be a release date and all this hectic hassle and troubling talk will be over. Thankfully. Patience is the best policy.
