Now I do understand why we shouldn't compare the three games, but we know for a fact that they all influence each other AND share player bases. Just like CoD and Battlefield share player bases, that automatically makes them compete and/or work together to make sure they both get max players in the end. I'm not comparing because they're similar in any way, but rather because of the playerbase.

  2. As long as we have it down that they're not the same game(s), having a shared playerbase is no problem at all. Terraria and Minecraft are both fantastic achievements for the genre, and I think Starbound will be an even greater one not just for sandboxes but for indie games too.

I put all of these games inside that catagory of "Ambient, Explorative & Creative Sandbox Games". They are games that focus on exploration, building and aspects of similar sorts. I have a huge feeling this catagory will continue to grow. Just like FPS came from early games such as Doom, Sandboxes will grow into a huge thing too.

A can agree with OP in one term - concentrate. Devs should concentrate on main (mal)functions and basics before adding small details and freshly imagined content. We don't draw a circle by drawing a head and removing unnecessary details.

I'm confused as to why everyone is operating under the assumption that the developers have no idea what they're doing.

I don't assume that. But improvements in available media (screens and videos) look somewhat erratic. Maybe it's just me and everything goes smoothly - then I hope the next demo will be about combat and monsters.

Your post is very good. :) but I wanted to point out that "date joined" does not indicate how long a person has been following the game.

I can sympathize with OPs point, but I have noticed that all the indie games I am following have blown past their initial release estimates. I think that coding games is just more complicated than anyone ever realizes. All we can do is be patient, and play other games/work our jobs until our anticipated title finally makes its debut.

I think they should just release the game, then add updates like 1.1.2 or 1.3.2 for Terraria and Minecraft. And we won't get bored when every time when there about to release it, oops, there's a content that is needed to fix so it will have to be released on a later date. I know the creators and Starbound are trying to make the, in my opinion, most ultimate sand-box game ever created, perfect. But not everything can be perfect. And maybe, just maybe, this could sand-box players most amazing Christmas gift ever. Maybe on Christmas Eve, they release it. That be nice.

And in the mere future, the creators will also have ideas and add to them.

Look, how about we let them do their work, and when they consider it ready, they'll release it. If you try to rush them, the quality of the game will probably be affected. I know that, from the streams, the game looks prety much finished, but its because you only see the thiings that are there and how they are, you don't see the things that should be there, but aren't there, or should be different.

... I think that might've sounded a bit more sane in my mind...

In his defense when you join the forums doesn't determine how long you've been waiting for the game. I've been waiting since I heard about it on TO but am to shy to actually talk on the forums. But completely agree with you other wise. I remember back in the day when games took more than a year to make. I mean I'm a huge Legend of Zelda fan and there's only a handful of those games and the brand is as old as I am.

handful? there's like 15 of the games along with side story titles too i think, that's a pretty decent amount I'd say d:

anyways, this quote here sums up my thoughts on the subject at hand

Ugh, I've been waiting for the game ever since Tiy posted on his twitter that he's working on a new project, I feel like I've been with the game ever since it started, and if that means waiting another year, so be it. :)

Do people expect an unfinished game just because of Minecraft and Terraria?

Plague is spot on. The time this game has been in development is no where near long enough to start complaining.

15? I count 8... I'm not counting the hand helds which are the ones I haven't played (I've tried one and thought it was trash) and even with 15 its a what? 28 year old franchise? I'm a Zelda nut... (talked my wife into getting a Zelda tattoo) But yea they need our support not demands or complaining that they need to release it already. If you want a crap game to release thats fine, but most of us want the awesome game that they are trying their hardest to release so let them do their magic.

just 'cause he has only been on the forums a few months doesn't mean he hasn't been waiting as long as the rest of us. don't get me wrong im not agreeing or disagreeing with what he's saying, im just saying that he could be one of those people that didn't bother to set up a forum account until a couple months ago... (im one of those people, and have been waiting for this game since they announced the end of terraria updates...)

I can see both views on this.

While I would buy the game in a heartbeat if they decided to do an open beta like Terraria/Minecraft... it would be nice to have it so Starbound is a polished and ultimate experience when I first pick it up. At the same time, I understand the OP's concern that the Devs might be trying to squeeze too much new content into a release instead of focusing on polishing the core content that will lead to a faster release (and a more enjoyable overall game). Its ultimately up to the Devs and Tiy has been very clear he wants to release a completed product, so you have to respect that.

Either way, I'll anxiously await Starbound until its released, and (hopefully) play the hell out of it.
