I'm not saying to remove flying enemies. That would be silly. But you know how some fish have weird organic propellers? I'd like to see something like that on flying enemies in airless biomes. Natural engines. But dont just have them flapping wings in a vacuum... thats just silly.

    "Maybe with natural jet engines"
that also wouldn't work without air to exploit. :wtf:

It would certainly help a bit with the immersion if mob spawn was adjusted to the kind of biome you are in. Honestly, i think it a tad silly that mobs can live on a biome that has no atmosphere.

Or how mobs you encounter deep underground are incapable of digging or tunneling, which leads me to wonder why they would even spawn at such depths when they are obviously not build to live there.

Right, I agree. It's already established and accepted that Starbound's creatures have things like natural engines and stuff, so there are already options available.

A recent post by the wonderful Tiy mentioned the possibility of biomes affecting monster generation. So flying monsters on moons and asteroid fields could have a different category of body parts to choose from, based on the already existing category for flying creatures.

I agree with the OP, without air differentials, flapping wings, propellers, and jet engines would all be useless for flight movement, chemical reactions from within might work, but other than that, telekenesis, and electromagnetic gravity control would be the only plausible methods of non-land propulsion in an airless environment.

But then, in an airless environment, how would they breath in the first place?

Anyone referencing mynocks from star wars needs to remember where exactly they were found - inside the stomach of a giant space worm - not an airless environment, which is why simple environmental breath masks were all that were necessary for the Falcon's crew members to use, rather than a full space suit, when they stepped outside.

Flying enemies shouldn't exist PERIOD. Fuck flying enemies. Fuck birds. Fuck avians. Fuck the whole lot of 'em.

I'm going to fuck all of them, and there ain't NOTHING alls you can do about it.

lol, just like how I shouldn't find large fields of snow and ice when the planet's bg is literally a sea of lava.

Isn't there a species in one of lovecraft's stories that use bony wings to fly through the ether of space? (Obviously not scientifically accurate since lovecraft had absolutely no understanding of space, Nor did most people of that time.

Just pretend that all birds are telekinetically propelling themselves and the wings are just for show.

Or any natural biological life at all - I'd prefer it if moons and asteroid fields were populated more by space pirates, scientists and miners. Things in spacesuits basically - and old space scrap (bots) that patrol the wastes endlessly.

They flap their wings, therefore they fly. I see no problem there. It's Ork logic.

However it looks like it should be pushing against something. It's still propulsion.
